  1. IMO Taaffe is just protecting his teammates - from the press and also the fanbase. Nobody's got any idea how this year will shake out, but the guys in the locker room have to really embrace an "us vs everybody else" attitude at this point, especially with the noise from all sides being mostly negative. Maybe he could've answered the questions more measuredly, but I appreciate him standing up for the team. Also, I haven't had a second watch and probably won't as there's no current need for anesthesia, but he seemed to play his balls off outside of a couple missed run fits/angles where he gave up outside leverage and couldn't discard a block. If all the guys who traveled on the team plane yesterday were okay with what he said, it's a net positive.
  2. Running style is pretty similar too - one/two cuts and downhill with low pad level. To be the shortest guy on the field, he's a load to get down. The guy can really play, I've seen him give everyone fits since he was a little kid and all of us have been waiting for his size to become an issue.
  3. I can't think of a situation where I'd feel a football need to pull him off the field. He's plenty thick to pick up blitzers or chip in the pass game if you keep him in to protect, but he can also catch the ball. His build is similar to Maurice Jones Drew or Jacquizz Rodgers, and those guys could play every down in college. I know it's tough without an obvious comp, and he isn't Barry Sanders, but the kid can play football at a really high level. I don't see any coach passing on his commitment.
  4. He's gonna play running back at a P4 school. He's nothing like Blue or Bolden in terms of build. As for him not being the height that schools covet, there's nothing to be done about that. If you see him run the ball, there's really no questioning it.
  5. Really quick and fast kid. Good receiver, but I don't think Texas is going to be giving committable offers to kids who are the third/fourth receiver on their high school team. I hope Texas increases contact with Jaylen Addai '28 - he's having an amazing year.
  6. In any context it's hard to make an argument that a team with 14 offensive draft selections over two years, which also made the NCAA semifinals in those two years is missing evals and not developing players adequately. Performance on the field and NFL Draft success are probably the best KPIs for both evaluation and development. I don't want to die on any hills, but I feel pretty comfortable with that.
  7. There have been seven offensive players taken in each of the past two drafts. I don't think we can argue against development so much right now.
  8. Yea he's been their best player since his freshman year. His uncles/cousins were built like that and both played in the league and coached him in the Richmond Oilers organization - he's probably carried the ball 30 times a week since he was 6.
  9. He went 10.5 this summer, so the 40 time tracks (no pun). He's a thickly built kid. There may not be a ton of comps out there, but I hope length isn't an impediment to a committable offer from Texas - he's special to watch, for sure. If there were any concern, I'd think it would be carrying such a heavy workload for four years in high school. Kid has been tackled a whole lotta times.
  10. Injuries suck. Baxter's was horrible, and it remains to be seen if/how he returns from it. He was by no means easy to get on the ground prior to the injury. In fact, he had all the makings of a legacy back at Texas. He runs hard, he falls forward, he doesn't make mental errors (inclusive of pass pro), he catches the ball, and when he blocks folks they stay blocked.
  11. Duncanville lost to Waxahachie?!?! I have an old teammate from Duncanville who is insufferable. Many thanks for this tidbit lmao
  12. Kid is a fucking DAWG. I didn't see him at Nationals for track this year, so assuming he the summer off to train football specifically. I hate to say this man's name, but it's hard not to think of Sean Taylor when you see him. I don't know anything about the kid's character, etc - he's got all the makings of an All-Pro safety.
  13. Chris Stewart just took the opening kick of the season to the house vs. Summer Creek.
  14. Unsure how it's determined which posts constitute "CR", but fairly sure that the families of many Houston area recruits and a certain swath of Houstonians period, have a different view of Quanell X and his work than what's been stated above.
  15. Couple rough play calls for the looks Georgia showed there. As limited as Quinn was, he had played a lot of ball and was adept at getting into a good play at the LOS. I gotta think that Arch will be strong there - that trait is as endemic to the Manning family as any other. As things slow down, he won't miss a ball like Golden running wide open on that last play either. Tough to watch, but I'm sure the kid has seen these cutups thousands of time. Expecting an entirely different guy out there Saturday morning.
  16. This is what should give all who are gnashing teeth some solace. Nobody on the schedule will have a front as good as the one these guys work against daily. Only UGA and OSU will run out a group equivalent to Texas' 2nd unit. There will be hiccups because live fire is just different, but the group will be capable - thanks, in part, to having dealt with a possibly generational group since Spring.
  17. This is the biggest piece, IMO. We saw Quinn deliver the ball too early, self-sack or worse multiple times once DC's wised up and attacked Wisner with cross-dog & green dog blitzes last year. Tre is a willing blocker, but didn't always pick up the right guy or have enough body to be effective in the pickup. Beyond the sacks and rushed throws, it seemed Quinn stopped trusting that part of the protection, even when the block was made satisfactorily. Giving Arch that extra half second and the belief that he can stand in there opens up the playbook even more.
  18. Ahh. He messed up. Gotta just enjoy the bag now.
  19. I like KJ Edwards a whole bunch. Was stoked to hear that Texas was still on him and that he reciprocated interest. Kinda bummed to hear otherwise, he's got track speed that shows on the field. I'm sure there are all types of moving parts that inform the "why" on this being a one back class - but running back is a position that a team can get thin at pretty quickly. Don't have to look far to find it play out (Texas 2019 and 2024). First world problem, I guess.
  20. I’d consider them a powerhouse now. They can line up with most everybody. The kids just aren’t workers or as disciplined as they were with Coach Aymond. I got to meet Coach Kay, and he seems like a serious guy, but the kids didn’t work after they left him. When Joe, Ced Cormier, Tiki Hardeman and Gurode were there, those kids were dogs.
  21. My guy. He moved up to the Metroplex a couple years ago, but North Shore had been trying to get him back around their program in some capacity. I don't think he even believed that his presence could really help the culture over there. When Joe was there both as a player and coach, they were churning out guys who were very productive college and pro players. Not so much anymore.
