Swap “Miami airport” and “Key West” and that’s me.

4,996 in about 3 weeks in a brand new Jetta from Enterprise. Was taking my daughter to visit universities on the East Coast. Suit cases in the back seat, camping gear in the trunk. As I am about the leave the clerk says "treat her well, she is brand new to us." "Sir, " I replied, "I am going to beat the shit out of this car."

Loved driving that car for sure, no wrecks, but damn it stunk like snack food and feet when we dropped it off.

  2. Seems like Elon will not be vacationing down under anytime soon. Funny, a South African known to control what his people can say, complaining about censorship.

SYDNEY, April 23 (Reuters) - Elon Musk lashed out at Australia's prime minister on Tuesday after a court ordered his social media company X to take down footage of an alleged terrorist attack in Sydney, and said the ruling meant any country could control "the entire internet".
At a hearing overnight, Australia's Federal Court ordered X, formerly called Twitter, to temporarily hide posts showing video of the incident a week earlier, in which a teenager was charged with terrorism for knifing an Assyrian priest and others.

Total fucking bullshit. Probably cost us the game, losing your manager so early like that.

You know I am not a Yankees fan, but that was messed up.

But yeah, a lot of teams win without their manager. I mean, it is not like he got banished to Siberia and the team is in mourning ala aggy.

Do we just send them our old stuff and surplus stuff or do we send them more of what they need? I've bitched about accounting in the past but with where we are now, I hope we are putting a low value on artillery that is past or near expiration. $60 Billion can go a long way if we value artillery at $9.95ea. Fuck replacement cost.

Buy in bulk and they are Tree Fiddy a unit.

Not everybody in the Taliban is from Islam.

where I agree with most of your post, not this. I think it is sorta a precondition for enlistment. The very few Russians and others who joined them all converted.

I was just curious. It seems like when billions are available for a reconstruction project run by politicians, graft seems rampant.

It was run by a central agency who answered to the internationals. Bosnia could request funds, for say teacher salaries. It would be discussed and if approved, funded.

Again, not the same model for Ukraine, very different situations, but it existed, was supported, and provided central oversight. It kept the politicians out of it. A lot more administrative, etc. Bunch of damn finance people and engineers.

How much corruption - ie misplaced funds?

I was not part of it, but do not recall any announcements. If anything people got pissed because they COULD NOT get away with shit. Corrupt judges were fired, etc.

There was a lot of oversight. It was never a Bosnian put in charge. I think only EU citizens ran it. Again, I was not part of it. I was way down in the weeds.

And I am not saying this is the solution. I am saying groups like this have been done before under EU/US leadership and guidance. To be honest, who the fuck cares about any other groups, maybe the Japanese, Koreans and Aussies get onboard. India? Go fuck a goat.

I am for seizing Russian assets, but the Europeans are going to be loathe to do so, but are slowly coming around.  The only argument I can see for sitting on those assets would be as a bargaining chip if we thought we might get a new Russian leader more amenable to real negotiations.  Releasing those funds in exchange for better terms for Ukraine.

That isn’t on the horizon. Spend the money. A compromise that might get the Euros on board would be to earmark it for reconstruction that European firms could bid on which would be hilarious and cool.

Yep, similar to Bosnia. A single fund, run by the High Commissioner's office, needing approval from the big donors for projects. And with all those layers, progress was pretty fast and cool to see. Not one cent could go to military. The police only for equipment, but most of that came from the UN or other groups.

the far right will easily accept the idea if Israel pushes it , best to do that discreetly, because the far right is buddies with the far right in Israel.

Don't think so. But hey, I get it. You think they should leave so others can come in. A very similar argument is heard around the world, and yes, supported by external countries, we just do not hear about it. Sudan, Mali, Burma to give you three.

Palestinians are not the rioters in those nations, besides those were few and muted.

The difference between Africa/Latin America is that the west isn't backing those regimes causing the human misery as the west supports Israel. The west is directly responsible for Palestinian misery caused by Israel.

Where I mainly agree with you, I do differ on parts of Africa. But that is another thread.

Concerning the riots. I understand they were not Palestine based, but the far right in the EU will not let that happen. Look at the Med and the problems with migration from North Africa.

The very definition of a Palestinian is refugee status. That is the sine qua non of their being. It is pretty normal to resettle refugees.

Technically they are internally displaced people if outside their home but within the borders of Israel. Might sound like a nit pick, but it really impacts what and how much aid they have. The right to resettle has to be agreed to by the nation receiving them.

US, Canada, UK, France, Italy, German, Spain -- the entire EU is available in small or large amounts .  50K, 75K, 10K.  If 1,000,000 Syrians can get to EU by themselves, anything is possible.

European countries host over 1 million Syrian asylum-seekers and refugees, with the 70 per cent being hosted in two countries only: Germany (59 percent) and Sweden (11 percent). This makes Germany the fifth largest host country globally, hosting over 1 million in total, of which over half (560,000) are Syrians. Austria, Greece, the Netherlands and France host between 2 to 5 percent, while other countries host below 2 percent.

Across Europe, Syrians have been consistently afforded an international protection status, with the vast majority either been granted refugee status or subsidiary forms of protection while the minority benefiting from other humanitarian statuses. Since the onset of the Syrian crisis in 2011, far over one million (1,076,360) international protection decisions on applications by Syrians have been taken by asylum authorities in EU+ countries.

Yes, and following EU politics it has caused a lot of internal issues. See the riots in Sweden? Holland?

Plus the EU should absorb Africa, the US Latin America, and in a perfect world the Arabs would help the Palestinians.

I don't think so. I think they were waiting for us to make up our minds and lead. Remember when we promised the first aid package and started backfilling equipment to NATO allies? Ukraine got a lot of equipment the knew how to use, old USSR stuff from Eastern Europe.
