  1. Lemmy should get recognition. Distinct, unmistakable voice in a band that was very influential in heavy music.
  2. I don’t think I have ever eaten at a McDonald’s in Austin in all my life. The Whataburger at N Lamar and Denson on the other hand…a bazillion times.
  3. Mike Patton and Chris Cornell definitely are at the top. Really tough to beat those two. Others: Iggy Pop Bon Scott John Bush
  4. I have had that issue before, especially with recruiters. But I am used to accents working in this industry. Hell, my father is an immigrant. This person I am dealing with does have a strong accent, but that’s not the issue this time. It’s the lack of clear explanation and ability to clearly delegate. I hear her on the phone struggling with a junior type person in India that is helping out on the project. I have asked 5 times now if I can help. She is still “thinking about it”. I think we need a “bitch about your job thread”.
  5. I just went back to working at an engineering firm after two years with an oil company. The stereotype is real that many engineers lack communication skills. However, PM/PC people absolutely must be able to communicate. Struggling right now with the project I got assigned to. Hoping this wasn’t a mistake.
  6. One should not be employed in the capacity of project management or project controls if you have subpar communication skills. Communicating in those roles is half the job, sometimes more.
  7. I wish. She was gorgeous in person and very nice.
  8. A little known band from Cleveland called Disengage put out a few releases starting in 1997. I think their last album, Application for an Afterlife, was really great. Then they disappeard. Here two tracks I really dig. I wish I knew the story behind the title of this first one as we are mostly Longhorns here...
  9. Two great bands, Melvins and Helms Alee got together and covered Hüsker Dü's Data Control.
  10. My wife gets quite annoyed that when she tells people that I worked with Beyonce in the studio once I am just kind of indifferent/whatever about the whole thing. She claims she is one of the most famous people in the world and I just shrug my shoulders. She did compliment my Brasil jersey.

  13. Toyota will announce the LC/Prado at 8:20 tonight. I saw some supposed leaked photos but might as well wait for the real announcement.
  14. Sad thread turning into a happy thread haha. Fogo is fine. Just has much fewer cuts and offerings. I don’t think they have chicken hearts. Which sucks.
  15. Well, this has successfully been derailed. In Austin, not sure. In Houston it’s a little easier. Hefeweizen probably can give some suggestions in Austin.
  16. So does my youngest daughter. Pro tip, spread a little butter on them as you eat them.
  17. I’d rather fly through GRU than the airport in Amsterdam or Rome. Not by much, but still. You can get pão de queijo at HEB.
  18. Possibly. But who wants to live in a world like that? Found this site numbeo.com that compares cost of living between cities all over the world. Can’t vouch for its accuracy, but pretty interesting. My money goes a lot further down south. This is just the summary, the details show price comparisons of food, transportation, utilities and entertainment.
  19. My youngest is 6, so in theory, I also have 12 years until she is in college (assuming that is the path she takes). So I don’t see myself being able to retire for another 16 years at a minimum. However, financially that would be impossible here in Texas (or anywhere in the US) because this is a second career and didn’t start planning until I was 31. So, there is a better than 50% chance, especially if I want retire sooner than later, it will be to Brazil. Which is fine by me. There is a lot I love about Texas, but there is a lot I don’t like. People like johnny sack-o-shit for instance. His type of people run this state from a place of hate and bigotry. I see he has already stopped by to comment on diversity. If we are such and amazing state, why can’t we get education and healthcare (I know the latter is more federal than state)? Why does a state with so many resources have to suck? Regarding Houston and cost of living, I have brought that up many times on this site and people always argue that Houston is “affordable”. Our household income is north of $250k a year. I know that is not Surly 1%, but if I recall correctly, that is in the top 5-6% of income for Houston. We are considering moving to Cypress because of schools. I can’t afford private school. I don’t think it is financially responsible to buy a half a million dollar home either. But the alternative is $400k house in the burbs and public school. And that market for a house and good schools and not 2 fucking hours in traffic from work for my wife and I is razor thin. It’s a shitty feeling to be educated (I have two bachelors, my wife has a masters), have good jobs and still feel stuck.
  20. It would have been cool if they named the album (or song) David Bowie.
