  1. Arguably some of the best Star Wars ever made. https://www.youtube.com/@StormTrooperVlogs
  2. Hometown Hero Wellness is having a sale on all the jazz cabbage edibles Dan Patrick had in his box for his press conference. Discount code is DANSDELIGHT.
  3. Just saw that the 14th Slough House book comes out this year. If we get 14 seasons of this, I ain't complaining.
  4. The Mueller Alamo has the best solution. Shitters on one side and urinals on the other. Sinks in the middle. Use whatever facility works for you.
  5. Well, went to ARC after hours today and popped a positive COVID test. Showing its podunk roots, I couldn’t find an open pharmacy anywhere in north central Austin so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get Paxlovid.
  6. Went to a screening yesterday. I’ve probably seen Jaws 50 times and never noticed the barrel continuity error. They start with five barrels. One, along with a tracker, is shot into the shark on the first day. By the next day, that barrel is gone and there are still 5 barrels. Maybe that first barrel being cut loose is referenced but I didn’t catch it. I do love the displays of how Gen X was raised. Sure, send a toddler to cross a busy road to go to the pond by himself. Typical parenting there.
  7. He’s either dead or almost dead. No way he doesn’t tweet some response to the death rumors if he was remotely cognizant (for him).
  8. We went from the position being the pinnacle of academia leadership, desired by dozens of well qualified applicants, to not posting the job and instead hiring somebody's regarded cousin whose only qualification is their disdain for education and progress. This will end well.
  9. Sam's BBQ closed its doors. They say they'll be back but unless they once again rely on discounted pants meat, I don't know if it's realistic.
  10. Every school we toured said they don't even distribute the submitted applications to the admissions office reviewers until the day after the first deadline. In the book I recommended a long time ago, Who Gets In and Why, the author does advise not waiting until the back half of admissions if you need financial aid. The amount of aid is finite and as it starts to dry up as they move along in the admissions cycle, they will start to favor kids that can pay their own way over kids that will most likely need aid based on the demographics of where their are from and the high school they attended.
  11. That elementary school is in a great location. Fuck that church for opening a homeless shelter and ruining what was a good neighborhood in a great location.
  12. It'll be the greatest gift to businesses everywhere. Businesses can buy up all the property and easily keep purchases out of state avoiding the inflated sales tax. Building a subdivision in DFW? Buy all building materials in OKC and get it delivered in 5 hours instead of 1. No big deal at all for the cost savings.
  13. I'm there with you. I'm a big believer in rolling up every piece of clothing. It seems to to always take up significantly less space than folding or using packing cubes. Also, everything seems to be less wrinkled.
  14. Totally forgot about this show and I had a ticket.
  15. Junior Brown made me proud last night. I saw she made a Trader Joe’s run so I told her to try to not move her car during the week because parking is an issue. She said, she grabbed one of the orange cones that has “CSU” painted on it from the construction site next to her dorm and keeps it in her car. So, when she leaves, she puts the cone up in her parking spot. She’s moved her car a dozen times and so far no one has parked in her spot.
  16. $700 on two sets of sheets and a duvet. $200 two pillows $50 sit up pillow $300 on matching tall night stands (one for roommate) $300 fridge $80 microwave $50 2 sets bath towels $50 over toilet storage rack $40 2 3-drawer plastic storage bins $25 phone/watch/airpods charging station $115 lounge chair $60 air purifier $50 shoe rack $30 rolling laundry hamper $140 office chair $400 at Target a months before move in. No idea what this was. $550 at Target the night before move in. No idea what this was. $350 on a 34” curved monitor. $1500 laptop. (Those last two were my purchases) That’s just what I remember.
  17. I just paid Junior Brown's fall semester bill - tuition, room/board, and fees. All in, it was $19,900 after her merit aid and scholarships. The only other expenses were the parking permit which was like $720 for the year and Mrs. Brown probably spent $5,000 on the dorm room.
  18. What does South Austin's mom's autobiography have to do with anything?
  19. I didn't grow any habaneros this year so I changed up my salsa... 1 can whole tomatoes (reserve juice) 3 jalapenos ~1 Tbsp chile pequins 1/4 white onion 1 garlic clove 1 tsp better than bouillon chicken paste 1/4 cup white vinegar salt Roast the jalapenos, steam, and peel. Boil the pequins, onion, and garlic for 2 minutes. Blend everything and add tomato juice to get to a consistency you like. The chicken bouillon paste adds that umami and is a secret FU to vegetarians.
