Listen I fucking hate tele’s I’m using the word hate here (as good as it gets voice)! BUT I fucking love them because well guitars! If people can’t see the beauty in a PRS top or pick up a custom 24 that plays as well as a strat gives you better strat tones as well as the meaty crunch of a Les Paul combined with its own tones I can’t help! I can see why people want to punch Paul and stab him with his fugly headstock but coke to the dark side

I have a dream that my four PRS's will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the shape of their headstock but by the quality of their tone.

Buy and play what you like, bro.  Also, you might have just injected "coke to the dark side" into the internet vernacular.

Look. I like 99% of your posts, but please don’t make me out you on my ignore list. 😀

If you had to choose between a Deej's new tele pic archive or a Vic Mackey revenge porn archive, what would you choose?

That's pretty.  I like natural wood finishes, but they always make me think of the 70s, which is kinda good and bad.
I kinda feel that way about my new Rick Bass. Part of me thinks the natural, satin walnut is the most awesome finish they offer, the other part thinks I should have bought the white, glossy one.

The Rick Bass makes its public debut Sunday afternoon at an outdoor, matinee show.

A hole in the upper horn routed to a hole on top above the bridge, a bowl in the hole at the horn and it'd make a good pipe. Then it would be 70's.

The finishes on the PRS are a little much sometimes. I saw this at a music fest yesterday and I think it looks quite tasteful.

I like spalted maple all natural or with some stain.

Next weekend is one if the best annual events in San Francisco. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festiful. 3 days of free live music across 6 stages in Golden Gate Park, a gift to the city from a dead venture capitalist who funded it indefinitely in his will.

I got my Friday lined up, bummed that they put Charlie Crocket and Drive By Truckers on at the same time, but ive been trying to see Charlie Crocket since my sister gifted me his album a few years ago.

No idea Saturday other than closing out with Steve Earl.

SSH is more versatile but position 5 (or... 2? I don't know which way they go) is a thing and you only get it in that configuration.

actually now I’m curious if you would get that with ssh+coil tap. I don’t think it would be the same but I don’t know.

The Suhr I have kept has HSH with coil splitting.  So you can run all the pickup configs of a LP and a Strat.  I think quality dedicated single coils > split humbuckers, but if you want one guitar to cover a lot of bases, it works pretty well.  The 2, 4 and 5 positions that I mostly care about sound sufficiently stratty.

The biggest issue to me is output drop off, and the same amp/preset settings not being ideal for the different pickup configurations. You often not only have to pull the tone pot to split, you often have to bump the master volume or otherwise alter the signal chain to get to something that matches the output you were just getting with humbuckers.

Not that big a deal for me since I am just recording, but if you wanted to toggle between the two in a live scenario, you would need something in your pedal board to hit to equalize the output.  I don’t think you could compress away the diff without ruining your playing dynamics.

Yep, it’s compromising on purity of single coil tone for not having to own/juggle another guitar. Then it’s personal preference as to whether that compromise is acceptable or not.  But you do wind up having to juggle your signal chain anyway, so... shrugs.
