I think that’s a bit revisionist or at least focusing on the negative as far as the TV shows go. 3 of the first 5 were great (Wandavision, Loki, what if), one very good (Hawkeye), with only one miss in Falcon and WS. Shehulk and Ms Marvel weren’t bad, they were just made for different audiences. New DD was great. Sequals to what if, Loki, WV (Agatha) along with the new animation zombies, eyes of wakanda, and friendly neighborhood spider man were all very good (spiderman was a huge hit).

They whiffed hard on 2 (Invasion, Falcon), had 2 or 3 meh, but have otherwise had 10+ solid to great series come out of all of it, meant for mostly the “main audience” (nerdy probably white males) but also branching out a bit in audience and style.

I believe you and defer to you, I just mean that to continue the level of mainstream, broad critical AND commercial success (and numbers) a la the Thanos arc, they've fumbled pretty badly and it seems that reverting back to RDJ and Chris Evans is an acknowledgment of that. The future is obviously to introduce the "new class" of actors who can take MCU back to the top on another 10 year arc, but it doesn't feel like they've quite found their footing there yet. It's like a football team who drafte dthe QB of the future in the first round but it was a bust and now they are bringing back Joe Flaco or something until they can reset.

Agree they have not found their footing on the next big arc. I do wonder if the combination of having to reset with Krang plus covid factored in. A lot of things got delayed / shuffled / canceled right after Endgame.

Spider-Man did numbers right after endgame. Black Widow would have killed it in theaters I think. It was a good movie and was passing the baton to Yelana and Red. Then things shut down for 2 years. Momentum lost, direction changed.  Shang chi was not a bad movie and I think keeps things moving solidly if it wasn’t the first MCU movie in theaters since the pandemic. And again, they weren’t all bombs, just nothing to carry the franchise and narrative. Spider-Man 3 was great, Guardians 3 was great, Thunderbolts was very good (great? Such a different feel and I like it).  Thor 4 was a big let down. I’m convinced Natalie Portman kills franchises as much as I lover her. They probably should have built around Guardians, Yelana, and SpiderMan before the excitement around them cooled, but I think they were hoping on Krang and Thor and thrown a curveball plus Antman 3 was awful.

Chadwick Boseman dying also robbed them of the one newer character who could have carried it forward.  He was a good actor who could have pulled it off.
