We are going to know a lot more about the Big 12 race after this weekend:

TCU (tied for 4th) and West Virginia (tied for 2nd) play tonight
Texas (1st) and Baylor (tied for 2nd) play tomorrow night

Texas Tech (tied for 4th) and West Virginia play Sunday afternoon

I think Texas has a decent shot at a share of the Big 12 title even with a loss tonight. A win tonight would obviously put Texas in the drivers seat though. The best 3 teams in the Big 12 are Texas, TCU and Baylor IMO.

Baylor plays a lot like Tech. They like to play over the top and they play very physical. Hopefully, Texas keeps their composure and the refs keep this game under control because Baylor fouls a lot. Best way to beat a team like Baylor is what Texas did against Tech. Keep possession and frustrate them.

Not a bad result. This is the path to a Big 12 championship. Draws with the other top teams (TCU and Baylor) and beat everyone else.

We need TCU and Baylor to pick up a draw somewhere else to give us some cushion. TCU @ Tech won't be easy as Tech is very difficult to beat at home and Baylor and WV will be a good one.

That's 9 games in a row unbeaten and we've only given up 1 goal in the last 4. Playing very disciplined soccer now.

Holly Ward should definitely be in the top 100 of this list. I doubt there's 20 better FR than Ward.

That FR class of Missimo, Byars, Cox, Fung, Miller, Ward and Stanley was loaded. I think Stanley has some type of injury or she would be playing a lot too. She's just as talented as all those other FR. You can build a top 10 team with that group of 7 players if you're a decent coach.

Kansas is 2-5 in the Big 12 but their 2 wins are against two of the top teams (WV and Baylor).

They won B2B matches against both those teams and then shit the bed last night against a very bad OU team. Very weird team.

They’re better at home than on the road. That match in Lawrence may be us trying to clinch the regular season/#1 seed for the B12 tourney

WV getting a loss or draw at Tech tomorrow would help us a lot to start

Followed by a Texas win or draw over WV

And then a Baylor loss/draw to WV and TCU getting a loss/draw against Tech

Current standings:

Texas 4-0-2 (14)
TCU 5-1-1 (16)
Baylor 3-1-2 (11)
WV 3-2-1 (10)
Texas Tech 3-3-1 (10)

We finish with WV on Thursday (3-2-1), OSU (2-2-1) and @ Kansas (2-5).  2 wins and a draw versus WV is what we need.

TCU - hosts KSU on Friday, finishes the season @ Tech
Baylor - hosts ISU on Thursday, hosts WV on Sunday and goes to OU on the 28t

RPI scares you to death. With only 48 teams making the dance in NCAA soccer, that needs to be closer to the top 30. Because we fucked around in non conference we still may have to win the Big12 tournament to get in the NCAAs

It does scare you.  We have WV (48), OSU (63) and Kansas (78) left on our schedule.  We really need to see TCU again in the conf tournament (9) and get a win or draw.

But the entire Big 12 as a whole is pretty low on the RPI - TCU is 9, and then Baylor at 46, WV at 48 and Texas at 56.

We really need wins against Rice, Oregon and Florida and we fucked that up badly.

Well if nothing else our defense this season has steadily improved. We’ve come a long way from giving up 4 goals to UCF

480 minutes without giving up a goal, since September 30 against TCU in the 9th minute.  We haven't allowed a goal in the month of October.  TCU, Tech and WV are the top 3 teams in the conference in goals scored.  So it is an impressive stretch.  Baylor is #5, right below us.

We also haven't scored since the 54th minute against Iowa State on October 8.  Granted, the last two teams we've played for 240 minutes are legit teams (Baylor and WV). TCU, WV, Baylor are top 3 in goals allowed and Tech is 5th.

For reference on our last 2 matches:

OSU is 6th in goals scored, 6th in goals allowed
KU is 9th in goals scored, 7th in goals allowed

Texas is the only unbeaten conference team (4-0-3) but we are one point below TCU.  Texas needs to finish 2-0-0 and have TCU pick up a draw or loss in Lubbock to end the season.   Baylor is right behind us at 14 points.

Up to #36 in the RPI

We are almost a solidly at-large team.  I think one more win should do it - especially if it clinches the Big 12 regular season.  A road win against a top 100 RPI team is pretty helpful - if we beat Kansas.   Even if we win and don't win the conference, I think we are in.  More solid with at least 1 win in the Big 12 tournament.

TCU #7 (sure helps we have a draw against them)
West Virginia 44
Baylor 46
Rice 53
Ok State 60
Texas Tech 80
Kansas 91

We play the same time as TCU-Tech on the 28th - 7pm.  Scenarios:

Texas win, TCU win - TCU wins the conference in points, 22-21
Texas win, TCU draw - Texas wins the conference in points, 21-20
Texas win, TCU loss - Texas wins the conference in points, 21-19
Texas draw, TCU draw - TCU wins the conference in points, 20-19
Texas draw, TCU loss - Texas and TCU share the conference crown in points, 19-19 - #1 seed is determine by goal differential in conference -

Current goal differential - TCU +10 (15-5), Texas +7 (12-5)

Tournament champ gets the auto bid not the regular season champ, yeah? We could theoretically win the big 12 regular season title, lose first round of the big 12 tournament, and be sweating it out on selection day.

Tournament champ gets the auto-bid but our body of work in winning the regular season would go a long way, especially with an RPI around 36 if it stays there or moves up with a win over KU.

Remember, Texas was picked 5th pre-season and was not ranked to start the season.   Preseason poll: WV, TCU, OSU, Texas Tech, Texas.  Preseason rankings:  8 TCU, 12 WV, 16 OSU

It would be shocking if the winner of the Big 12 regular season was left out because they didn't win the tournament at the end.  1 seed or 2 seed Texas would be pretty favored over 8-seed Kansas or 7-seed Oklahoma.

Chris Henderson, who really follows college soccer, now has us safely in the tournament. Not even one of the last few teams in. I don't think the committee is going to leave out a power conference team that has our body of work over the last 10 or so matches.

The RPI isn't terrible now either.

Texas needs to show up against Kansas because that Tech/TCU match is a coin flip. There isn't much difference between those 2 teams and Tech is 9-0-1 at home. They're very difficult to beat in Lubbock. Texas Tech is also just outside the bubble so they need this win. I won't be surprised at all if this is a draw or TCU loss.

I really like how we're playing right now even though it's resulted in some draws. Possession and limiting goals is how you win in the tournament. These minutes for the FR, without Grosso, should go a long ways to building depth too.

I think Texas is playing better, but just can't finish. Being offside 5-6 times so far doesn't help.

Big 12 refs suck and Ange Kelly was rightfully bitching about this at the half during the WV game.

Offsides occurs when the ball is played not when the player receives the ball. Byars was offsides a few times but they called her offsides a few times when she was clearly on. Just because she's a foot or two behind defenders doesn't mean she's offsides if the ball was played 10 to 15 yards away. The refs were reacting to Byars receiving the ball a couple steps behind the defenders when she created that space after the ball was played.

I think there's definitely a shot of hosting if Texas finishes the season strong.

Beat Kansas, win Big 12 quarters game, win Big 12 semis game vs decent RPI team on neutral field, win Big 12 finals game vs TCU on neutral field. We are definitely finishing top 25 in RPI if that happens and that would be like 15 games in a row without a loss.

Now will all of that happen? Who knows.

Ameilia Abbott must have had some type of injury because she's playing now. There's no reason she wouldn't have been playing earlier in the season unless she was injured.

She's been getting international experience with New Zealand. Another talented FR.

It's going to take a monumental effort for Ange Kelly to fuck up this type talent.
