XFL: The sequel

Let's see if it can last longer than round 1. They're teasing the team names, and will be dropping them officially on August 21, at 12:30. So far they released a small portion of each logo, but it does show the upcoming team colors. Some color schemes look garish to me, light green and bright red? crimson with orange? two toned green with dark yellow? Who thought these up?

No photo description available.

So best guesses on which color/logo goes with which team? Here's my best guess (from left-right, top to bottom):

1. Dallas - #7

2. Houston - #8

3. LA - #4

4. NY - #3

5. Saint Louis - #6

6. Seattle - #1

7. Tampa Bay - #5

8. Washington D.C. - #2

Would it kill a minor league to just have decent names for once?  Something plural and local will always be better than Blaze or Crew or Wind or whatever bullshit they usually concoct.

Minor League Baseball has some cool names.

El Paso Chihuahuas

New Orleans Baby Cakes

Omaha Storm Chasers

Akron Rubber Ducks

Binghamton Rumble Ponies

Richmond Flying Squirrels

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

Montgomery Biscuits (one of my personal favorites)

Amarillo Sod Poodles

I left several out, and didn't get to single A. MiLB does something right.

Cedar Rapids Kernels is a solid one as well.

Baseball definitely does it better.

So 7 of 8 teams are going to be in cities that have NFL teams?  This may fail even faster than that one earlier this year did.

Especially since the Dallas team is set to play in the Rangers' baseball stadium (the old one) in Arlington. It's enough of a pain in the ass to go there for the Cowboys, but at least it's the Cowboys. I wouldn't waste the time and traffic to go to Arlington for minor league football. They should play at SMU or one of the mega high schools closer to Dallas's city center. You know, places that might be worth going to for a day of not just football but other stuff that's not Walmart or Six Flags.

I fucking love the Houston Roughnecks logo and name. Really like how they incorporated the star on top of the San Jacinto monument in the logo. This is excellent graphic design. Wish the Rockets would have hired these graphic designers to revamp their logo instead of just adding a gray and black basketball and keeping the dripping blood red R.  I am totally buying some Roughnecks gear.
