You'd kinda think.  But, he's an Austin guy, and apparently jury selection was depressing from that angle.

Plus you now have the plaintiffs under armed guard because of all the threats and harassment, that apparently is not coming from a distance.

For those who missed it, some highlights - Maya is fucking awesome, and exactly what I expected of her, based on our dealings (school/academic stuff, not judicial)

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/02/media/alex-jones-sandy-hook-trial/index.html

Quote

“Mr. Jones, you may not say to this jury that you complied with discovery. That is not true. You may not say it again. You may not tell this jury that you are bankrupt. That is also not true,” Gamble said.

“You are already under oath to tell the truth,” Gamble added. “You’ve already violated that oath twice today, in just those two examples. It seems absurd to instruct you again that you must tell the truth while you testify. Yet here I am again.”

Quote

“This is not your show,” Gamble added. Jones attempted to tell Gamble that he believed he was telling the truth.

“You believe everything you say is true, but your beliefs do not make something true,” Gamble said. “That is that is what we’re doing here. Just because you claim to think something is true does not make it true. It does not protect you. It is not allowed. You’re under oath. That means things must actually be true when you say them.”

Quote

At the conclusion of court proceedings, Lewis walked over to Jones and handed him a bottle of water because he had complained about having trouble speaking due to a torn larynx.

Jones started talking to Lewis and Heslin and the exchange with Heslin grew heated.

Quote

An attorney for Heslin and Lewis interjected, telling Jones as he escorted his clients out of the courtroom, “That’s not even a thought. That’s not the way this goes.”

Jones shouted back, “Why because you can’t feed them fake videos anymore?”

He's developed kind of a Stevie Wonder delivery on the tapes from his show and now bloviating at the media. His eyes wander skyward, back and forth.

Despicable human.

You just compared his delivery to little Stevland Morris and you are calling him despicable?

Maybe. But in my experience and in talking with some plaintiff’s lawyers around town over the past couple of decades, for a politically liberal area, Travis County juries are not as plaintiff-friendly as you might think. I’m not talking about defense verdicts, but rather jury awards that can be on the cheap side.

There’s a whole lot you can unpack there about the racial/educational/economic demographics of the typical Travis County jury pool that could be a whole other discussion. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the jury comes back with an award more modest that what the plaintiffs request. Still, I hope the jury really gives it to this piece of shit.

I didn’t know her before she took the bench. Or really know anything about her. But I’ve had a couple proceedings before her, including a summary judgment hearing where the attorneys threw a lot at her, and she impressed me as really bright and thoughtful (I’m not saying that’s a rare quality here, but the Travis County judges can be a mixed bag). I like her even more after watching her handle this case.

Today's episode of Knowledge Fight is basically just a straight recap of yesterday's trial shenanigans from the two hosts who were in the courtroom gallery all day

Listening this AM. Alex took to the air to refer to Judge Garcia as “Judge Goblin.”

If I were on the bench, Alex would be sitting in a jail cell today.

So what do they have for us today?

Either today or tomorrow, jones is going to be cross examined by the plaintiff. And for every minute that jones bloviates in his defense, the plaintiffs get to cross him. He can't dodge it, can't delay it, he's in a box and I'm almost certain he's going to crack and go off the rails.

He's also taking every chance he can to shit talk the judge and the process, and is almost certain to get hit with more shit as a result of his actions.

And yeah for context: while one of the plaintiffs was testifying, jones was broadcasting on his show, calling the judge a "dwarf goblin" and "judge goblin". He literally left his broadcast to go to court and join the in progress trial

It's Judge Gamble, not Garcia.

Federal judges tolerate this kind of shit far less than state judges (not surprisingly because they aren't beholden to the electorate).  But better for her to show as much restraint as she can.

....and to let the Plaintiffs put all of those recordings into the appellate record as part of their motions for sanctions.  She won't punish Alex for that bullshit, but when Alex's appeal is all about "waaah waaah, judge was mean and unfair, and out to get me," that theme will go up in flame the moment the reviewing court 1) reviews 5 seconds of those broadcasts, and 2) sees that she didn't take any action against him for it.  When the record is clear that the judge would have been well within her discretion to flay you alive and hang you from the courthouse rail, any treatment less than that is going to get a clean pass.

The plaintiffs’ counsel put up on the screen a picture of Jessie, the son of one of the plaintiffs. His dad said it was a class picture taken about a week before the shooting and arrived a few weeks later. I can’t even imagine receiving that after my son was murdered.

Alex’s theme that he’s sorry and he doesn’t really believe Sandy Hook was fake is such bullshit and is obviously disingenuous given he’s taking to the airwaves DURING THIS TRIAL to say the trial is all a setup and fake.

It’s like yelling “FIRE!” in a crowded theater, leading to a stampede and injuries, and then saying “Sorry, I didn’t really think there was a fire.”  …and then running over and pulling the fire alarm and giggling.

Yeah, I can’t imagine having to relive the experience again in a public courtroom because Alex Jones exploited your son’s murder to sell supplements at 50, 60, 80, 100% markup (the various numbers Jones threw out yesterday) to the tune of 160+ million in gross sales.

Waiting for the cross examination.  The suspense is killing me.  I hope it will last.

I suspect he will behave about as well on cross as we all expect him to.   He won't answer the question asked.  He'll argue.  He'll try to give lengthy speeches.  The over/under on us hearing "object to responsiveness" is set at once every 5 minutes.  And I suspect the "under" should get the heavier betting action.

Is bankruptcy fraud a legit concern here ?

Here in the state court, no.

But in the bankruptcy court, there's probably going to be some intense scrutiny of this PQPR entity, owned by Jones and family, that Free Speech Systems all of a sudden owes $53M on a secured note.  If that was legit, that would reduce the pool of money available to satisfy the defendants' claims and, generally speaking, secured debt can't be modified by bankruptcy, so it might get paid in full at the expense of unsecured claims like the plaintiffs'.

That is going to involve some testimony by Jones, and, if he plays it like this, then yeah, I think there's some  serious potential for bankruptcy fraud.

Cross-examination grilling him on the shit he’s been spewing about Judge Gamble. A picture of her on fire posted on his website was admitted into evidence. Now he’s asking about Jones connecting her to allegations of pedophelia.

Point taken. If Alex Jones had 2 bars of that tune in his soul, he would be a much more bearable human being.

Stevie Wonder is a treasure and provided a wonderful variety of songs from my youth to adulthood. From the above to Just Enough for the City.

"I know you want to tell what you want to tell us, but this is a question and answer, so just answer the question asked."

I tuned in for literally 60 seconds of testimony, and the judge admonished him about.

60 seconds later, nonresponsive, sustained.

Going exactly as expected.  Except my over/under on that was probably WAY low.

EDIT: and another one, two minutes later.  He can't answer a question.  He just wants to speechify, and refuse to take responsibility for anything.  He's a narcissist sociopath.
