I can't help but wonder if they're holding silents to announce during the height of the aggy pool party. Try to counter momentum?

Doubtful. Hopefully we get Baxter Aug 10 and Matthews in August, but I can't think of any possible silents who would be ready to announce tomorrow. I might've said Gullette but he no-showed. Maybe Vasek I suppose.

RECRUITING

*Arch Manning played golf with Charles Wright on Thursday. No word on if it got out of hand like @UTortho’s 40th.

*It’s possible 2023 linebacker Derion Gullette will be in College Station late Saturday evening. Texas A&M is clearly UT's main competitor for the four-star edge-backer. Inside Texas continues to hear that Texas is Gullette’s personal favorite. Where does the recruitment stand within Gullette’s circle is the question? We will likely learn more on that after the weekend if they show up in College Station.

*2023 Baton Rouge (La. ) Woodlawn cornerback Jordan Matthews pulled into his home at 1:30am late, last night after spending time in Austin. He tells Inside Texas he had a great time as usual, and reiterated to @JoeCook he's looking at a decision before his senior season begins. A decision is possible in the next 7-10 days but nothing is locked in.

*2023 Longview (Texas) WR Jalen Hale popped into College Station on Thursday. The Aggies staff has been pushing Hale to return but it was a short visit. He's headed to Alabama on Friday morning after staying overnight in DFW. Hale has three remaining official visits, but is only scheduled for two; Alabama (9/3) and Texas (9/10). A&M will push for that third visit before his scheduled September 22nd announcement.

*2023 Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest OL/DL Markis Deal and his father made the one-day trip to Austin Thursday. There is a feeling that TCU and Texas are the likely top two in the prospects’ mind. Barring a change, it doesn't seem like there will be a commitment until after two fall official visits. Texas and Georgia are still expected to receive those. USC is the sleeper, if the On3 Consensus four-star ventures far from home.

*2023 Moss Point (Miss.) DL Jamarious Brown and family remain on campus in Austin today. The No. 102 ranked prospect in the On300 is not a player that has been to camps to receive official measurements. A key takeaway after seeing Brown in person is that he is likely closer to 6-1.5 without shoes than his listed height of 6-3. That doesn't change the level of prospect Brown is as an interior DL. Texas is in the mix with Ole Miss, and possibly Alabama or Tennessee. The Rebels are fighting hard to keep Brown in state.

*2023 Shreveport (La.) Woodlawn DL TaDerius Collins wasn't as big as the listed 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds in person. Inside Texas has him at 6-foot-4 and closer to 230 pounds. He has the frame of an EDGE prospect, but would only be recruited as a DL by the Texas staff. The Longhorns are expected to take another look on senior video. Baylor, and possibly TCU are more likely destinations should Collins decide prior to senior season. Collins did have a good visit.

Given Riley is shady AF, I am just going to believe Nelson and Branch are just there to get intel on the bag game aggy is playing.

That said it is frustrating to me that they can create waves by getting these guys in for the weekend and the Texas staff doesn't seem to have tried to generate the same energy.

They will finish top 10-15ish most likely. They signed 29 last cycle and haven't had insane attrition (yet) so this will be a smaller class. The average player ranking will be the more interesting stat to look at.

don't worry about the numbers.

Young Payton's ambiguity is a little worrisome.

Based on the position he plays and our obsession with tig ol bitties in that position, I would say this is a non-fact finding mission.

Yeah, same. I just accepted that he was talkin’ ‘bout his jugs and didn’t realize that there was even a question.

I am only putting this in here to show how reliable Spiegelman's picks are.

Sam put in a prediction for this young man to commit to Oregon today.

Lol.

Also, Bama now has the #2 and 3 RBs in this class, behind only Owens and right ahead of Baxter.

Here's Louiville's recruiting performance over the last 5 years.  Pretty remarkable.

(Of course, for traditional recruiting heavyweights, there just isn't enough room to climb, but still .... )

Damn. By next year they'll have the -5th-ranked class. Is that like an overflow error where it loops all the way back around to 125?

Shouldn’t you be looping back to a positive outlook at some point?  Is underflow error a thing?

I guess they are saying that he didn't test very well because there is no way that a 230lb guy would be recruited to UT as an interior lineman in PK's scheme.
