IT recruiting notes

Spoiler

The latest on Anthony Hill Jr, Derek Williams, DeAndre Moore, Kyle Parker, Jaden Greathouse, Justin Benton, and more in Friday’s recruiting Humidor.

Anthony Hill Jr, LB, Denton (Texas) Ryan

The biggest recruit remaining on the big board for 2023, Texas has stayed the course in Hill’s recruitment, even after his pledge to Texas A&M last summer.

Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma are among the schools still reaching out to Hill, but Inside Texas believes it’ll likely come down to Texas and Texas A&M.

Hill has a tremendous relationship with both staffs. The Horns hold an advantage with more familiarity within the program and the opportunity to play early.

Texas is pushing to get Hill and his family back on campus in December, preferably the 17th date, when they’ll host many commits from the 2023 cycle.

Texas A&M is trying to get him back to College Station at anytime, including this weekend. Right now, it doesn’t appear he has anything scheduled for Aggieland.

A source close to Hill said there is also the possibility that Hill and family could visit Texas one day, and Texas A&M one day on that final weekend.

All visits TBD.

Derek Williams, S, New Iberia (La.) Westgate – #AllGasNoBrakes

Thankfully for UT’s 2023 class, most of the commits seem content to sign with Texas on schedule with very little drama. This goes even for the elite players in the class. While you think back to how different things were just one year ago, we’ll continue.

One recruitment that could prove a bit more difficult for the staff to close out is that of near five-star safety Williams. Not only is Williams extremely talented, he also hails outside of Texas’ traditional recruiting footprint. The New Iberia, Louisiana product is still hearing from LSU, Alabama, and Miami to name a few. While all are trying to flip him, they’d also like him to prolong his signing at a minimum.

Texas has a couple of things going for it. The summer commitment was big and serves as a good reminder Texas has had the best feel for this recruitment out of anyone, including LSU in light of staff turnover in Baton Rouge

The staff course of action on all ‘must-win’ recruitments is to recruit through the whistle and take nobody for granted. Texas safeties coach Blake Gideon will be in attendance tonight for Williams’ playoff game versus undefeated Destrehan.

We have been given no indications from the Texas side of things that they are worried, they’re just continuing to work diligently to get him over the line.

If pressed for a prediction, ours would be Williams sticks with Texas and signs early.

Tyler Scott, CB, Mableton (Ga.) Pebblebrook

Scott remains scheduled to make an official visit to Texas on December 17. Texas area recruiter Tashard Choice and defensive backs coach Terry Joseph are scheduled to be in Mableton on Sunday to see the 6-foot-2 corner. Scott has Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn and USC also in contention. He remains scheduled to make an OV to USC December 9.

Kyle Parker, WR, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy – LSU commit

One of the remaining wide receiver prospects on the board for 2023, Parker is still hearing from the Horns. Steve Sarkisian and Brennan Marion keep close tabs on the ultra productive metroplex talent.

Parker is listening, but remains solid to LSU. Texas wants to get Parker back on campus in December. The 6-foot, 180-pound On3 four-star grew up a Texas fan and has kept close tabs on the Longhorns.

DeAndre Moore, WR, Los Alamitos (Calif.) St. John Bosco – Louisville commit

The Longhorns still want another high school prospect at receiver. Texas has growing confidence they can flip the Cali-bred four-star from Louisville. After Georgia took Converse Judson WR Anthony Evans, it appears Moore and Bulldogs might’ve cooled.

If Texas can get him back on campus in December, that’d be an excellent sign where things stand with Moore.

Jaden Greathouse, WR, Austin (Texas) Westlake – Notre Dame commit

Texas is trying to get Greathouse on campus in December before early national signing day over the next month. While the staff is hosting many of the 2023 commits on December 17th, Austin Westlake could still be playing that day.

There’s some optimism that can be accomplished, as the Longhorns try to flip the local talent. He’s still solid to Notre Dame, who added another Texas HS wide receiver prospect to the Class of 2023 on Thursday in Frisco Reedy‘s Kaleb Smith.

Defensive line recruiting:

Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis will be in Chicago today to see top defensive line target Roderick Pierce. Pierce is excited about the Texas OV December 17. The only way that visit doesn’t happen is if Texas gets the impression today that he’s headed to Michigan, and is just waiting to announce. Illinois is the third program in contention.

Davis will also be in Covington, Ga. Saturday to see West Virginia “soft commit” Justin Benton. Benton is scheduled to visit Texas December 10. IT expects the 6-0 3/4. 280-pound wrecking ball to ultimately choose between Arkansas and Texas. IT feels like Benton will end up at Texas, if the Longhorns truly push on the OV.

The Huddle: Latest on Anthony Hill

— The biggest remaining target in the 2023 class for the Texas Longhorns is undeniably Denton Ryan five-star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. The Texas coaching staff led by Steve Sarkisian, Jeff Choate, and Jeff Banks stayed on Hill even while the Denton Ryan product was committed to Texas A&M which eventually helped lead to his decommitment from the Aggies.

One of the recurring questions we've gotten over the last week is if Texas A&M's win over LSU in their season finale had any impact on the direction of Hill's recruitment. After checking with sources all week the resounding answer has been "No."

All indications are that the Longhorns still have a commanding lead in this recruitment with national powerhouse programs trying to convince Hill and his family to delay a commitment or signing and take an unofficial visit.

Personally, I still feel very confident in my Texas crystal ball prediction for Hill.

He won't but he should. Bijan forced the most missed tackles in all of P5 football. Meanwhile we all saw how Michigan's running game didn't miss a beat against Ohio State with Corum out.

They do this bullshit all the time, btw. In 2010, Mark Ingram was benched in the Iron Bowl against Auburn and Alabama's offense actually improved when Trent Richardson took over. Ingram still won the Heisman anyway. How do you even justify that bullshit. And don't give me the "McCoy lost the Heisman against Nebraska" crap. Jason White shat all over the field against K-State in the Big 12 title game, led his team to a humiliating 7-35 beatdown, and still won the Heisman anyway. They do this shit all the time and it's infuriating.

The real award is the NFL contract/career that goes to the best running back. You might fool the Heisman committee, but you don't fool the scouts.

I’m watching the HS update on WFAA, they were showing highlights from Longview vs Timberview and Sark was there. The reporter at the game said Sark told him he was checking in on a few recruits and trying to flip one from Bama. I guess they haven’t given up on Hale yet.

The Texas Longhorns coaching staff was on the road Friday visiting commitments, targets and attending high school games.

And the grind continues today for Steve Sarkisian and staff with a number of in home visits on the schedule.

Inside Texas provides a rundown of the latest on the recruiting front.

Roderick Pierce and Texas

Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis flew to Chicago Friday to talk to defensive line target Roderick Pierce. The returns from that conversation were positive for the Longhorns. Pierce is locked in for his official visit to Texas December 17. Pierce is excited to see Texas, and Austin for the first time. The Pierce family is familiar with Austin. His mother has visited the Austin area more than once.

The most impactful news coming out of the Texas visit to Brother Rice was the feeling that the 6-foot-2.5, 293-pounder with a 79-inch wingspan is not locked in with Michigan. He’s remaining open in the process. Pierce will visit Illinois December 10 as well.

Steve Sarkisian in the Sunshine State

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, running backs coach Tashard Choice and offensive line coach Kyle Flood are in the Sunshine State today making a pair of in home visits.

The trio will first meet with Payton Kirkland and family at around 10 a.m. central. Kirkland is 100% locked into Texas, and will make his official visit December 17. The 6-foot-5.5, 335-pounder will enroll in January for the spring semester.

Following the visit with Kirkland and family, the Texas coaches will make the short trip to make an in home visit with Cedric Baxter Jr. The nations No. 1 ranked running back and On3 5-star also plans to be in Austin December 17 for the Longhorns big visit weekend. Baxter told Inside Texas earlier in the week he’s locked in with the Longhorns. Baxter is one of 12 early enrollees in the 2023 class for Texas.

I think Hill is trending to the good guys but GH said he wants to take two more unofficials. One to Texas and one to aggy. I hope Texas gets the last one if that happens.

I think they also mentioned he's not confident that Aggie trip happens. I think for sure he'll be on our big visit weekend the 17th. Maybe we can lock him down .
