Newhart's secret was carrying the show (both series) by being the straight man and letting talented people play off it. He didn't have to do nearly as much as Sudekis. He was brilliant at it, though.

Honey, wake up.   You won't believe the dream I just had.

I must've dozed off for a scene or two where Nate felt screwed over and decided to backstab the club. Didn't see that coming.

Delayed watching Ted Lasso until there was a critical mass of stuff on apple to justify the sub. Also my wife is in Exec leadership coaching and there's a lot of worthwhile pop culture lessons in the show.  I felt S2 was overly sentimental. I enjoyed S1 better. Overall I'd watch S3 again but I wouldn't rush.

Back in 2006ish we lived in Richmond for ~2 years so it was fun to see it as a filming location. That no doubt caused me to enjoy the show at least slightly more than I would have otherwise. We lived just a short walk from Richmond Green.

I think they show Nate's traversing decency pretty well.  Not great, but not too heavy handed either.  I don't know it was supposed to feel so "rushed" given the three bottle episodes in the back half of Season 2.  But you can sorta see it in hindsight.  The show won't work the same with a heavy foe (Rupert's a real piece of shit and drives much of Rebecca's behavior over the first 1.5 seasons, but you don't see him very much).  Plus this foe is half personal and half actual football, curious to see how they handle that.

Plus, we all know who the real asshole foil on the show is.  The snitch bitch on the bus with Coach Beard.  I hope she's mauled by hooligans.

if you feel like you missed any of the 'slights', the actor who plays nate was kind enough to list them one by one on twitter.

Towel boy one year. Valued assistant coach the next. Should've been the Head Coach before the end of S2.

Our pastor atchurch did 3 Sundays worth or pre-worship discussion of Ted Lasson and the themes of forgiveness, love, etc. At time this show bores me since I can be a cynical fuck but at its heart it is a good show with a likable lead and a rarity now a days- a show the entire family can watch without issue since there isn’t objectionable content.

I’ve gone back and watched both seasons again and there are a few moments that could be taken as slights by Nate. I think any well adjusted person not delusional with grandeur would not take them as slights, but Nate has some issues. I think his issues obviously stem from his dick of a father. It will be interesting to see if he remains full heel in the third season or if he has a moment of redemption.

At any rate, after watching both seasons a second time, I still absolutely love the show. I can’t wait for Season 3.

couldn't you just see Ted Lasso ending that way?  Ted got hit in the head by a football at practice and was knocked out.  when he regains consciousness, he realizes the whole AFC Richmond gig was in his head while he was out.  hell, Newhart could play his grandfather, who is at the hospital when Ted wakes up (since Ted's dad is dead).

I think of course Nate will have a redemption moment. Redemption is one of the key themes of the series. It may take a while, but Nate will come around. I just can't see them breaking from that theme even if it's prove the universal truth that some people may never be redeemed.

Roy Kent FUCKING disagrees.

My family hear enough curse words from me daily that a crusty cunt like Roy Kent mouthing off in a show doesn’t phase them :). What’s funny is that our pastor was playing clips from the show in the series he was a teaching in the show and the f-bombs being thrown out broadcast in the assembly hall :). It was a bit jarring and humorous that it was happening at church in front of a crowd of 50+ people :). Definitely would never have occurred at a Baptist church but it didn’t raise an eyebrow at our mainline church

No. Most of the discussion was about forgiveness that Lasso has for Nate and the owner. Nate becoming an ungrateful asshole and Ted’s reaction on when he gets dressed down by him. Lots of those scenes.

Actually, yes. They play in the 6th tier of the English football.

Thank you. I was pleasantly surprised to find that old photo account. I definitely don't recall the Richmond Borough FC from my time there. From the Premier League teams, it seems like Chelsea was the closest and the most popular. in the area.

We had a great flat - the top 2 floors of a row house, one of them a converted attic with skylights that flipped open. Our first night living there we extremely unfortunately discovered Richmond is in the flight path to Heathrow, in particular the runway used by longer international flights that started their descent shortly after 4 am. A very rude awakening.

Richmond was pretty swanky for a suburb. We lived there because it was as close to London as we could get (last stop on the green tube line) given the job was in Bracknell. The Brits called it a "Leafy Suburb," because of all the greenery - subtle yet snobby. Pete Townsend had a house there, known as The Wick. Mick and Bianca owned a house there once too but she got it in the divorce. Richmond Hill has amazing views of the Thames and the adjacent park is also gorgeous. The park is adjacent to Townsend's old house.

At the time rugby was as popular as soccer - Twickenham stadium was a short walk across Richmond Bridge (home for the national rugby team). I'm not sure if that's the case (rugby more popular than football) any longer.

It’s something Americans aren’t used to. We are used to shows going on for as long as they are popular or the participants get tired of doing the show. I like that there will only be 3 seasons. They had a story to tell and they will have told it. It’s the same with the British “The Office”. It was only 2 seasons and a Christmas special. It was perfect.

This.  They had a plan, they're sticking to the plan and they're not going to drag it out and ruin it because entitled fans will be upset it's ending.

It’s what I had hoped streaming would enable. Have a good story, tell it well, stop. If it’s a 2 hour story, it’s a movie. If it’s a 10 hour story, it’s a season, if it’s a 30 hour story it’s 3 seasons.
If you can have multiple good stories tied together by characters, do them.

if you have multiple short stories that you want to tie together into a season as an anthology, do that. (Love, death, and robots.)

I heard Merchant on a podcast recently and he said the main reason they stop is because there's no huge syndication money in Britain so it's more lucrative to do something new.  I always thought it was integrity.

Don’t the telenovelas use the same cast and just start entire new stories?

yeah, at least during the 90s, there were a bunch of young hot Latinas, like Kate del Castillo and Gaby Platas and a few others.  they would star in one telenovela for 8 months, then star in a different one for 8 months, etc.  lots of the same actors/actresses, but in different stories.  and they all had episodes during a "week in Cancun."

I'm annoyed it might still be several months until Derry Girls season 3 hits Netflix.

EA is an evil corporation and FIFA is *literally* the worst game franchise of all time. i hate that TL's popularity is going to lead to even more people buying this game. with that said, EA's contract is up and they no longer will be making FIFA, so if a company that actually gives a shit about making a good, realistic soccer game (as opposed to the EA version which doesn't remotely resemble soccer and is basically a casino for kids) takes over then i'd love to try out playing a career mode with Lasso and the Greyhounds.
