Another one (going for the talking point consensus I guess):

Was reading a NYT article about Franco's 'stolen' babies recently and the lead up to that shameful episode in Spain's history during his reign--outlawed abortion, stripped women of the right to vote....anyone who thinks the 19th amendment is safe better think again. Just takes one fashy minded authoritarian and away it goes.

Maybe bringing Handmaid's Tale to life wasn't such a good idea:

https://www.axios.com/2022/10/12/2022-midterms-voters-roe-poll

Half of all voters say that they are more motivated to cast a ballot in the midterms because of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll released Wednesday.

Why it matters: Three-quarters of those who say the decision is motivating them say they intend to back candidates who support abortion rights, compared to 17% who plan to vote for candidates who want to limit access.

By the numbers: 50% of 1,534 adults KFF polled between Sept. 15–26 say they are more eager to vote in the midterms due to the fall of Roe, up from 43% in July and 37% in May following the leak of a Supreme Court decision draft on Roe.

  • 51% of voters in states with abortion bans are more motivated to vote, compared to 32% in states that protect abortion access.
  • In anti-abortion states, 74% of Democrats or Democratic-leaning voters are more eager to vote, versus only 35% of Republicans or Republican-leaning voters.
  • 53% of women say they are more motivated to vote and 46% of men say they are more motivated because of the Supreme Court decision.

Maybe the midterms can change my mind, but I just don't buy that this makes any difference. People who vote republican, even if they disagree on this topic, will still vote republican because socialism or illegal immigrant caravans with drugs and murders! Most people who take positions on abortion are lucky enough (or privileged enough) to have never really faced a difficult situation which these laws affect, so they'll defer to the next right-wing boogie man (Hunter Biden anyone?). Progressives who don't vote have made that decision because mainstream democrats aren't progressive enough for them especially on universal healthcare and the like. A few might be motivated by this one issue but many in my experience are too hard headed to ever vote for a democrat unless they click every box of their purity test. As far as women voters, the difference in support for abortion bans isn't all that large. This poll I found shows a much larger gap than I recall from several years ago and still is pretty small. There are tons of women who think abortion bans are a good thing either because of religion or ordinary privilege and lack of empathy to understand the difficult situations in which most abortion decisions occur. I just don't see it making any sort of a difference, and if anything, some religious folks who don't regularly vote might go to the polls this round in celebration that they finally got those loose whores and can stop their weekly abortions from happening anymore (I think most of them truly believe that most abortions are just casual birth control for common sluts). My mother is an example, she votes sometimes, but is now elated that the catholics finally won and shut down planned parenthood (her words not mine) and will be voting this round to thank them for their hard work. I think it'll be a wash overall. Hope I'm wrong and we see a blue wave.

I still think it generated a ton of momentum for dems this cycle in the summer and early fall that should pay off after the votes are counted. We went from a red wave environment where the dems were losing in places like Virginia and almost losing in New Jersey to over performing in special elections.

I doubt we see a blue wave, but dems should be engaged enough to stop a red one.

Texas Woman Nearly Loses Her Life After Doctors Can't Legally Perform an Abortion: 'Their Hands Were Tied'

Just wait until next year when they start prosecuting women in Texas who go to other states for abortion.

There's a reason why Republicans love those license plate scanners in Texas, and why the legislature is just fine with them.  We won't just be getting stories of people coming back from Colorado getting stopped 10 counties deep into Texas and being asked why they were in Colorado.

"Ma'am, you were in Bumfuck, New Mexico for three days, and they have an abortion clinic there, so we need to ask you some questions."

And all those companies tossing money at Republican politicians in Texas are going to be surprised when Republican legislators in Texas start openly pursuing all kinds of charges against said companies - the Freedom Caucus has already spoken publicly about doing it.

And even if those kids aren't old enough to legally drink, they are still members of the legislature, and can still pass legislation.

And every time a shithead nosy neighbor sees a pregnant woman who later isn’t pregnant and no baby will sic the authorities in them, because many of these fuckstains don’t really even understand miscarriages as their charmed lives have never experienced it personally and they are wholly incapable of empathy. My wife had a late miscarriage after we had gleefully told a bunch of people about our second upcoming child. Telling them what happened when our moods were somber was one of the most difficult things we’ve dealt with in this life. I can’t imagine if a trump fuck down the street noticed no bump and no baby and called the cops. These are things that are definitely going to happen. I hate this country with so much depth sometimes I can’t even motivate myself to get up and participate in such a fucked up society.

Remember that video of Neal Collins of SC that went around? The one where he expressed concerns about a bill they were voting on and how it would impact the health and safety of a woman whose water broke after 15 weeks if she couldn’t get an abortion? He ultimately went on to vote for an even more extreme version of the bill.

Might as well bring back the SS and the gestapo while we’re at it.

@Anastasis, same flippant dismissal of the consequences of this bullshit you support. But what do you care? It's not like you can get pregnant.

Flippant dismissal of people that don't see to grasp the fundamentals of human anatomical development.  The picture is of a gestational sac.  It appears that the embryo has been removed from the image, or at a minimum the embryo is obscured by the gestational sac.  If we are going to have a discussion based on the biology of human development, it helps to have an understanding of some of the basics. Elsewise you get easily misled into nonsensical statements like "Take a look at what is removed as the result of a typical, 10 week, abortion. Not even developed enough to be an embryo."
