I saw my first new full size Bronco in the wild today. It was going the other direction so I didn’t get to check it out too long, but I liked it much more than the sport. It was dark blue, looked like it had a little lift, and no top.

Yep, the Bronco and Bronco Sport are two completely different vehicles.  Ford screwed up by releasing the Bronco Sport first.  Because of that decision, a lot of people think they're seeing a Bronco when, in fact, they're seeing a Bronco Sport.

Bilstein 5100 level is my next.

That's what we put on the front of CHIEF Jr.s truck. We took out the 1" leveling kit, and adjusted the shocks for that extra inch. He's running 5160s on the back with the reservoirs. Kings were what he wanted, but Bilsteins were what he got with me footing the bill.

Yeah, I just can’t justify Kings or another expensive set up. I go off road here and there, but not enough. Just want to improve the handling a bit and lift it a bit for a better looking stance. Likely go Bilsteins at .85” and 10mm spacers in the back to keep a slight rake. I definitely don’t want the back to sag.

I've got about 90K on my Tundra, so getting about time to replace the factory shocks. I'm going to go this route. Remove the spacers and go with the Bilsteins.

My wife got a 2018 4Runner Limited a couple months back.  Favorite mod so far was replacing the outside mirrors with the 2018 Rav4 mirrors that include blind spot mirrors.  Makes a huge difference driving in traffic.  The are exact fits and easy to replace.  For the life of me I don't understand why they didn't put these mirrors on both the Rav4 and 4Runner from the factory.

This is not her 4Runner, but you get the idea.

I’ve been thinking about doing that. Where did you get them from?

Just ordered the front black valance from a dealership in Houston. The price online is not the same as walking in and buying it. Even with shipping it came out like $50 cheaper. Just in case anyone else is looking to do the same.

Will do the back valance next month just so I don’t get so many question from the boss.

You try hitting it with a hammer first?

That thought did cross my mind. It did work a few times with my 67 mustang back in high school. With the way my luck with cars and boats has been going the last few months I'm sure I'd knock a brake line off or something stupid like that if I tried.

So, gotta ask, what happened to the boat? You just maroon it by hula hut or something?

neighbor came with his truck, we pulled my truck and the empty trailer to a parking space, we went out on the boat for a few hours and when we came back I removed the trailer from my truck and attached to his, pulled the boat home, then had a tow truck take my truck to the shop.

Well you got the boat out on the water and that's the important thing.

Several years back, some friends and I all took our boats out to Lake Buchanan, because Lake Austin and Lake Travis were closed due to recent flooding.  I was the last to put in and when I did, my boat wouldn't start.  After trying for a while to get it started, I decided to eff it and just paddled the boat away from the ramp and then had a friend tow me a little further, maybe a hundred yards or so, away from the ramps.  We anchored down my boat, and then went out on my friends' boats for some skiing and wakeboarding.  When that was done we came back, tied up all the boats in a flotilla, drank some beers, grilled some fajitas on my buddy's pontoon boat, and did exactly what we would have done anyway.

At the end of the day I paddled the boat back, trailered it up, and drove it back to the house.  I put it on the hose and of course, it started right up.  So it goes...

FJ left me stranded for the first time yesterday.

Backed the boat into the water, parked the boat at the dock, got back in the FJ and it wouldn't start. Tried to jump but no dice. I think the starter went bad, waiting for the shop to test it out.

Would the starter make clicking or whirring sounds? Would the lights turn on but just not let it start? Do all your brakelights work?

If it flies, floats, or fucks... you're better off renting.

There was one click when you turned the key. According to the FJ forums one click = starter, multiple clicks = solenoid, everything goes dark = battery. Windows go up/down, lights are all fine. I had a mobile starter/battery charger hooked up while at the dock, it's not the battery.

Battery tested ok today, 550 cranking amps, down from 750 rated but should be fine to turn over the starter. Shop has ordered the starter but has to have it shipped from California, should get the truck back tomorrow.

I asked if they tried hitting the starter with a hammer and he said no, they did not try that.

The modern starters have ceramic rings in them that don't like being hit with hammers, but that does sound like the starter. Good luck.

Hammer only good for one or two starts to get you to the shop. Starter is done at that point anyway

Went to the Bronco "OffRoadeo" event in Nevada this past weekend.  The Ford guys there were tight-lipped about the Bronco Raptor -- said they couldn't discuss any details about it, but my takeaway is that it's in the pipeline.

As for the Bronco, all I can say is that thing is very, very capable off road, esp. with the Sasquatch package.  I can't compare it to a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon from an off road standpoint because on the one occasion I drove the Jeep off pavement, I didn't have the opportunity to challenge it.  But my sense is that the Bronco's capabilities are pretty similar -- certainly good enough for what I want to do.  I still want to drive the Bronco on pavement to check handling, road noise, engine responsiveness, etc., but after getting to drive one off road for a day, I'm staying solid on my order.

I wonder what the price difference will be between the Raptor Bronco and this:

Just twiddling my thumbs waiting to do the lift on my 4runner. Likely have Duggy’s here in Houston do it. They are Toyota 4x4 specialists. Unless the price is ridiculous. I guess I will try to sell some photos to finance the lift. Rather than hear about it from my wife.

I did just order the TRD skid plate. I also picked up some non rubberized cup holders from Etsy (yeah, Etsy). These are great. Fit perfectly and look like the oem cup holders. But they don’t attach themselves to your cup/yeti whatever when you go to take a drink.

Link for the cup holders?  I’ve just mastered the Yeti shake while driving to not pick up the holder every single time. Intrigued.

Haha, yeah, I got the shake down. It was my wife that was always bitching (Tacoma and now 4runner). Here is the link, you buy the two center console cup holders separately. Choose color and design (or no design as I did):

Old man gave me a ‘99 LX 470. 210k miles. Got a new starter, new clock spring, and some other stuff I’ve had to do.

Wife loves driving it.

She doesn’t understand that it’s mine…

Nice!  I love my 2000.  Little things come up on it that can be irritating.  Door lock motors, diff bushings, bearings, CV boots, etc...  But I still love driving it and it still surprises me that it's 21 years old and drives this nice.  Sure beats having a car payment, IMO.  Mine is at 210k too.  Do yourself a favor and research the AHC system.  a couple of great threads on IH8Mud about it.  I started out in the school of thought that's I'd yank it out and replace with conventional suspension but I've come around on it.  It still rides nice and I love getting a 2 inch lift at the touch of a button when I need it.  I just did an AHC fluid flush, which was a lot easier than I thought and the ride got even better.  You and I are both probably due for new AHC globes soon and I hear from the guys who have done it that the ride improves back to that same new car off-the-factory floor feel.  It's an easy job for a DIYer and I'll probably do it in the next year just because.
