LONGHORNS ESTABLISH SOLID FOOTING WITH UNDERCLASSMEN
We dropped some recruiting notes following the event on Saturday, but I wanted to circle back to a couple of players at the event. If you’re looking for big names, Texas had quite a few in attendance. It was the fourth time they’ve hosted Carlsbad (Calif.) quarterback Julian Sayin. The 2024 passer is the top target for Texas in next year’s group, but a lot will depend on how this cycle plays out.

From my perspective, if Texas lands Arch Manning then Julian Sayin is likely headed elsewhere. If the Longhorns don’t get Manning, they are probably the prohibitive favorite for the west coast passer. Sayin spent a lot of time discussing the depth chart and development path with Steve Sarkisian and AJ Milwee. While he isn’t worried about competing, the tough truth is that quarterbacks don’t want to sit behind other talented passers with the NCAA Transfer Portal in place. A Manning win wouldn’t automatically eliminate the Longhorns but it would certainly put a big dent in their chances.

Five-star Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco safety Peyton Woodyard spoke very highly of the visit after leaving campus. Woodyard spent the early part of the day getting a personal tour from Blake Gideon who stayed glued to him when we could see them. Woodyard was in Ausin last spring and took a self-guided tour of the campus during the dead period. Getting the full look at the campus and program opened his eyes. Woodyard said he and his mom loved the city and the school, and he really enjoyed the coaching style Blake Gideon and Pete Kwiatkowski brought to the camp.

Woodyard said he definitely plans to return to Austin and said he could see himself at the school and living in Texas. Woodyard said he doesn’t plan on taking any other visits at the moment. His recruitment will have a ton of national flavor as programs from all over pursue the elite safety, but Texas established a foothold with him this weekend.

We’ve talked quite a bit about the additions of Tashard Choice and Brennan Marion to this staff. That was fairly evident talking to prospects coming out of the event. Highly touted wide receivers Hunter Moddon, Freddie Dubose and Micah Hudson all praised Marion’s energy and coaching style naming him as a huge reason that they enjoyed the visit. 2025 Mater Dei WR Marcus Harris also spoke highly of Marion.

Justin Wells - Julian Sayin

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is a known commodity when it comes to evaluating and developing the quarterback position. That certainly appeals to Carlsbad (Calif.) quarterback and On3 four-star Julian Sayin.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior and the No. 3 quarterback in the 2024 class according to the On3 Consensus made his way back to Austin for the third time over the weekend prior to stops at LSU and Alabama. Sayin is digging UT’s offensive staff and the potential they present.

“I mean obviously what coach Sark has done with quarterbacks definitely stands out,” said Sayin. “I really like coach (AJ) Milwee and we’ve been building our relationship for a while now. (Texas) is very selective in who they want in the quarterback room, and they’re only going to offer a couple guys each cycle.”

With over 20 offers including Notre Dame, Georgia, USC, Texas, Michigan, Oregon, Texas A&M and Miami, Sayin knows exactly what he wants from his future college destination.

“A great relationship with the head coach, big football tradition and history, great fit in the program, and talent around me,” said Sayin.

In 2021, Sayin completed 181-of-253 passes for 2,769 yards and 34 touchdowns. He tallied 208 yards and two rushing touchdowns as well.

The Cali-bred quarterback has mentioned committing during his junior year, with October in mind. Inside Texas expects Sayin to make a return trip to Austin this fall.

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Sayin ranks as the No. 9 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 3 quarterback, and No. 1 prospect in California. On3 ranks him as the No. 47 overall prospect and No. 6 quarterback nationally.

Sayin has an On3 NIL Valuation of $137K, ranking as No. 88 overall in the On3 High School NIL football rankings. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college-level athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a specific moment in time.
