Collin Simmons told Rivals that Texas is in his top five.

If our south DFW recruiting continues to flourish with Chris Gilbert, I see no reason why we can't get this dude.

I know Cam Williams is from Duncanville. Anybody else on our roster?

Collins was recently Fong'd to LSU, so it's something to watch.

Neto's brother seems to have a top two of OU/aggy.  Maybe it's just a smokescreen because everyone assumes he's coming to Texas.

We haven't even offered the January kid yet.

That's probably your two top rated EDGE's in Texas for this class and a legacy 300+ lb DT.  We have built in advantages for all three and may not even be the leader for a single one currently.  Still a long ways to go, and a good year probably gets these guys.

Per IT

2024 Duncanville (Texas) EDGE Colin Simmons won’t make it to Austin this week.

He’s still connecting with the UT staff on a regular basis, and is looking at a fall trip, but will be at Georgia on Friday. Texas A&M, Alabama, and LSU remain strong for the junior four-star.

2024 Copperas Cove (Texas) OL Michael Uini won’t be able to visit Texas this weekend because his family has a prior engagement.

Texas, Alabama, USC, and Texas A&M remain in the hunt for the 6-foot-7, 275-pound monster. Uini is also eager to catch a Longhorns game this fall.

This kid absolutely looks the part, but I have no idea if he can play. Their team was historically bad last year.

This is the second time Owens has visited this summer, seems like he is really fishing for an offer. I wonder if Sark is going all in on Sayin for '24, or if Arch is going to scare off the big names this class and force him to take someone like Owens as Charles Wright 2.0

Chad SImmons: 2024 4-star RB J'Marion Burnette talks early contenders for his commitment

Quote

2024 Andalusia (Ala.) four-star running back J’Marion Burnette still remembers his first offer. It came from UAB during the spring of his freshman year. Troy and USF eventually extended offers as well. Then, one came from Oregon and Burnette’s recruiting process started to “take off.” A 6-foot-1, 210 pound tailback, Burnette now has more than 20 offers, with many of them from top college football programs like Alabama, Michigan, Texas and Texas A&M.

One day after Alabama offered, Auburn did the same. Burnette has already built a strong bond with Tigers running backs coach Carnell Williams, a former Auburn tailback who went No. 5 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. “I like coach Caddy (Williams) a whole lot,” Burnette told On3. “Straight-up dude. He tries to stay in touch with me as much as he can. And when I go up there, he make(s) me feel good.”

Burnette enjoys being around the Auburn program. He senses the Tigers’ “real-good” energy and complemented their fan base. Even though he has not been to Jordan-Hare Stadium as a recruit, he attended Auburn’s home game last year against Georgia. Regarding the Crimson Tide, Burnette spoke about his relationship with running backs coach Robert Gillespie. Burnette, who has not attended an Alabama game yet, worked with him when he camped in Tuscaloosa and learned that Gillespie has high expectations for his players and a lot of energy.

The four-star recruit also appreciates Alabama’s mentality of hard work. He has found that all players within the program are expected to give 100% effort. “Everybody (is) getting pushed,” said Burnette, the No. 107 overall prospect and No. 7 running back in the 2024 On3 Consensus. “There’s no walking around. There’s no somebody getting treated differently. Everybody (is) getting pushed the same.”

Burnette talks out-of-state offers and what he wants in a school

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, it is a race between Alabama and Auburn for Burnette’s commitment. The Crimson Tide currently have a 45.4% chance to land Burnette, while the Tigers are close behind at 26.9%. However, Burnette has his eye on multiple schools outside Alabama. Two of them are Texas and Texas A&M.

Burnette’s main relationship within the Longhorns’ program is with running backs coach Tashard Choice. The two have discussed Choice’s time in the league and his expectations for Burnette. Texas is also recruiting Burnette hard. “They try to stay in contact with me, like a whole lot,” Burnette said. “I believe they’re trying to get me up there. Ever since they offered me, they’ve been real big on me.”

Burnette wasn’t paying as much attention to Texas A&M earlier in his recruiting process. Then, the Aggies upset No. 1 Alabama at home last season. Now, Texas A&M is in contention for his commitment. Texas A&M’s coaching staff has a lot of energy, according to Burnette. Connections with coaches will play a key part in his decision.

“Relationships with coaches, that (will) be a lean overall on my commitment (and) where I’m going to make my decision to go play,” Burnette said. “I don’t go want to go somewhere where I barely talk to the coach, just go there and be there.”

Other important aspects for Burnette are going to a program where he can win, but also make it to the NFL. A home environment is crucial for the running back as well. “It (does not) have to be in state,” Burnette said. “I’m willing to go other places (and) try to make it out.”

Standish laying out 2024 class

Spoiler

For high school juniors, September 1 is always a banner day in their recruitments.

The start of the month ushers in the official contact period for the junior class and the barrage starts at midnight on the day it opens. Until this point of the recruitment, contact could only be initiated by the recruit or coaches and parents.

Starting tonight, staffs across America can reach out through email, text, social media or a good ole’ fashioned phone call to communicate with the next class. For many recruits, this lets them know which schools are serious about them.

Shortly after midnight, social media will be flooded with graphics and communications from programs reaching out to prospective student athletes.

The Longhorns currently have two commits in the 2024 class in Aledo’sJaden Allen and Daingerfield’s Aeryn Hampton. Steve Sarkisian and his staff have been persistent on the recruiting trail during their time in Austin, and I’d expect them to make overtures to their top targets in the class when the time comes.

The quarterback position will be fascinating. When Arch Manning committed, many people we spoke with felt that it would change the way the 2024 class could play out at the position. Texas seemed to be near the top of the pack for Carlsbad (Calif.) QB Julian Sayin, but sources now expect him to look elsewhere. I don’t expect that to stop the Longhorns from reaching out. The more fascinating indicator could be any new names that would emerge at the position signaling contact.

On the running back front, Tashard Choice seems to be all in on the nation’s top rusher in Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy prospect Jerrick Gibson. Choice already has a national win under his belt with Cedric Baxter, and he has the Longhorns heavy in the mix for Gibson. Tyler High’s Derrick McFall, McKinney’s Bryan Jackson, San Antonio Veterans Memorial’s James Peoples and Beckville’s J’Koby Williams are the other in-state backs with offers from Texas.

On the receiver front, five-star St. Louis (MO) University wide receiver Ryan Wingo should be one of the busiest prospects tonight fielding calls from nearly everyone in the country. Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Pellum are other out of state prospects who could hear from Texas. In state, Micah Hudson seems to be the top target with Drelon Miller, Freddie Dubose and Parker Livingstone also in the picture.

On the offensive line, Michael Uini, Ory Williams, Daniel Cruz and Nate Kibble are the in-state prospects with offers. Expect Lagrangeville (NY) offensive tackle Colin Cubberly to also hear from the staff after visiting this summer and coming away with an offer.

On the defensive side, expect to see Kamarion Franklin, KingJoseph Edwards, De’Myrion Johnson and Kolaj Cobbins receive communications on the defensive line. Caleb Mitchell Irving, Xadavien Sims, and Nigel Smith are others to watch. On the edge, Colin Simmons, Elijah Rushing, Zina Umeozulu and Dakyus Brinkley are other names to keep in mind.

The linebacker class will be interesting with fewer offers than usual out right now. Payton Pierce, Justin Williams and Tyanthony Smith are all prospects the Longhorns have offered in the state of Texas.

At the cornerback position, Texas will certainly shoot its shot with IMG’s elite corners Desmond Ricks and Ellis Robinson. In-state prospects Kobe Black and Rodney Bimage will also likely hear from the staff.

At the safety position, Jordan Johnson-Rubell, Corian Gipson, Jaydan Hardy, Ka’Davion Dotson, David Kabongo and Landyn Cleveland are all names to know. Five-star California safety Peyton Woodyard is another prospect high on the Longhorns after visiting during the summer.

The Horns247 staff will be monitoring social media throughout the night and into the morning updating this article with anything we see.

12:52 AM Update from Hudson: Just spoke with 2024 Lake Belton wideout Micah Hudson. The five-star dynamic wideout said that head coach Steve Sarkisian and WR coach Brennan Marion both talked to him tonight and both conversations went extremely well.

12:58 AM Update from Mike: 2024 Little Rock (Ark.) Mills DL Charleston Collins heard from Bo Davis shortly after the contact period opened.

true, but we're going to win just in case..  I'll make sure I cheer extra loud for the recruits who are in attendance

I agree that is probably a good strategy but there is a significant possibility that Alabama embarrasses us and that the vibe in the locker room afterwards is not a good one. Same as what happened with Adrian Peterson.

Also Marion, "Hey Micah, it's Coach Marion. You awake?"

Official offers, contact period open for Texas in 2024

Justin Wells•4 minutes

Article written by:Justin Wells

(Marshall Levenson/On3)

At the stroke of midnight, colleges could officially offer junior prospects in the 2024 class. The Texas Longhorns reached out to a handful of targets last night to extend the official verbal invitation. Here’s the list of 2024 offers from the Longhorns.

Micah Hudson, WR, Temple (Texas) Lake Belton:

You knew the state’s top receiver would be hearing from Texas. Hudson heard from a dozen schools last night including Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Baylor, Texas Tech, and LSU.

Hudson told Inside Texas he’ll be in attendance on September 10th for the Texas-Alabama game. Steve Sarkisian and Brennan Marion is prioritizing the talented pass-catcher.

Hunter Moddon, ATH, Houston (Texas) Clear Lake

Texas contacted the 6-foot, 170-pound four-star late last night. Moddon visited UT over the summer and continues to build with the staff.

Parker Livingstone, WR, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy:

The former baseball prospect turned football target spoke the Horns last night. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound three-star heard from Texas, Auburn, Michigan State, Mississippi State, and West Virginia over the night.

Livingstone is looking to attend a Texas game over the next month.

Michael Uini, OL, Copperas Cove (Texas):

You better believe the Texas staff would be in contact with the On3 No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2024 class. Uini tells Inside Texas he’ll be in attendance for the Texas-Alabama game on September 10th.

Uini hears from Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia, and LSU the most, he tells IT.

Jeremy Payne, RB, Fort Bend (Texas) Hightower:

After netting an offer over the summer, the 5-foot-10, 175-pounder’s recruitment picked up.

Payne also heard from Texas A&M, USC, OU, Kansas, and Auburn.

Zina Umeozulu, EDGE, Allen (Texas):

The On3 Top 100 talent woke up to a lot of messages last night. Texas, OU, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and Miami were among the schools in contact. The Horns have his brother, Neto, on the 2022 roster and continue to build a bond with the edge-rushing specialist.

Tyanthony Smith, LB, Jasper (Texas):

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound linebacker was offered by the Longhorns over the summer and continue to reach out to the rising prospect. He tells Inside Texas he’ll be in attendance for the Texas-Alabama game on September 10th.

Smith also heard from Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Louisville.

Corian Gipson, S, Lancaster (Texas):

The ultra-athletic prospect is already close to the Texas staff. Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and SMU all reached out last night. Gipson tells Inside Texas he’ll be in attendance for the Texas-Alabama game on September 10th.

NOT OFFERED YET

Derek Lagway, QB, Willis (Texas)

Even though he hasn’t been offered, Willis (Texas) quarterback Derek Lagway heard from the Horns last night. Georgia, Texas A&M, Oregon, OU, and Clemson all reached to the talented passer.

Trey Owens, QB, Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair:

Another 2024 signal-caller heard from the Horns last night. Even though he wasn’t offered, Texas is keeping close tabs on the junior prospect. Texas Tech, Houston, Duke, Washington State, and Arkansas were also in contact. He’ll be in attendance for the Texas-Alabama game on September 10th.
