Saw the tire marks on the grass under Woodall Rogers Expressway on the news last night. Report that he clipped another car at high speed and lost control. Looks like they probably jumped the curb and hit one of the concrete supports that elevate Woodall.

Gerry Hamilton said during chat today that Jordan Hudson is "absolutely tearing it up at tcu...  he could have Xavier Worthy type of freshman year"

Per Gerry, folks at tcu believe there's 3 future NFL Draft picks at WR on this year's roster:

  • Jordan Hudson
  • Quentin Johnston
  • Savion Williams

Still don’t know how good the frogs are. Obviously OUsux is dog excrement. Close game against KU doesn’t tell us much. Obviously KU is vastly improved, but they’re still Kansas for goodness sake. Some big blown coverages through the game.

1. why are the game tickets on Stub Hub so high?

2. do you think the price will come down between now and Nov. 12th?

1. TCU is the #7 team in the country and undefeated. This will probably be the only ranked match up other than Bama this season. People like to watch UT play good teams. Also TCU fans have money. Also primetime matchup/night game on ABC. I think this is our first primetime ABC night matchup since Ok State 2019?

2. The results of this weekends games will affect the cost of the tickets. I think TCU losing this weekend (unlikely) will most likely result in cheaper tickets. You should expect prices to dip a bit around Friday or Saturday morning before the game. You may get burned waiting even longer but I find it hard to see seat prices higher than $250 with fees for upper deck.

Seats in my section are selling for $345 on stubhub! That's more than I paid for my Young Alumni season tickets.

Also, that weekend is “Family Weekend” for more than a few Sororities & Frats.

And…. it’s night game.

I've watched tcu a bit this year, they don't impress me. the big 12 is down this year due to coaching changes and players graduating, going pro or exhausting elibility.

7 programs have changed HC's the past 2-3 years. Throw in a favorable schedule plus beating the crap teams they should and tcu is 7-0.

TCU is working on a new contract for head coach Sonny Dykes

In Year 1 in Fort Worth, Dykes has TCU on the cusp of the program's first College Football Playoff berth. Having inherited many of the same pieces that went 5-7 a year ago, Dykes's first TCU team is 11-0 and ranked fourth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

As a private institution, Dykes's salary at TCU is not known. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram placed his contract at six years and "close to" $30 million. Those are roughly identical figures, in years and total dollars, to the deal Bryan Harsin signed upon taking the Auburn job in December 2020.

In 13 seasons as a head coach, Dykes holds a career 82-63 record across stints at Louisiana Tech, Cal, SMU and TCU. He has one career conference title, a 2011 C-USA crown at Louisiana Tech, and is a heavy favorite to claim a second next week.

TCU hosts Iowa State on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, Fox). Win or lose against the Cyclones, the Horned Frogs will then face No. 12 Kansas State or No. 23 Texas in the Big 12 Championship on Dec. 3.

Good, they are about to completely misread and overpay for the success of a very upperclass lead team that has a bit of a horseshoe up its ass and also benefited from Sonny bringing in some talent he had across the metroplex.

Nah. We're the only program that consistently finds ways to shoot ourselves in the dick when we are close to actually accomplishing something. A literal inch last year. Seeing TCU pull it off is triggering my ptsd.

Why is TCU a Cinderella story?  They’ve had 3rd best recruiting in the B12 consistently for a decade. Since 2000, they’ve finished ranked 12 times, including 6 top 10 finishes. They’ve played in and won multiple BCS/NY6 bowls. They’ve been projected to lose bigly to big bad teams from the B1G and SECX3, and have won. They don’t have the enrollment or name brand of UT or OUsux, but they’re not exactly little sisters of the poor.

Unranked before the season, and picked to finish 7th in Big 12... Now 12-0 and ranked #3 in CFP is the definition of a "horny toads Cinderella story"

Thanks. I get that. And it is a good narrative. But in the big picture, it’s not that surprising. TCU’s been good for a long time and isn’t the doormat little ol’ TCU of the 1960s-1990s.

Just curious, why wasn't baylor allowed to bring in substitutes for that FG attempt ???  Clock would have run out, and horny toads lose. 😋

"There seems to be a loophole in the college substitution rule"

The mass subs at the end of the TCU vs. Baylor game had the wheels turning for coaches the past few weeks.

DOUG SAMUELS  7 HOURS AGO

After watching TCU race their field goal unit on the field with no timeouts to rush a kick to win the game against Baylor a few weekends ago, the conversation came up in coaching circles that there's a loophole in the substitution rule just waiting to be exploited.

After a spike on second down to stop the clock with 22 seconds left, TCU ran the ball on third-and-seven with no timeouts left, forcing the field goal unit to rush the field while offensive players quickly trotted off.

As a refresher, here's how the end of that game played out.

NCAA rules state that once the offense initiates a substitution that officials cannot allow the football to be snapped until the defense has a chance to make its own substitution and the outgoing player leaves the field.

However, as that TCU mass substitution took place, you'll notice something clearly missing - there was no official standing over the ball allowing the defense the same opportunity to sub.

Following that rule to the letter of the law would have robbed TCU of an opportunity to get that kick off in a timely manner. So, if officials have some leeway in that type of situation, there certainly seems to be a loophole waiting to be exploited by a bold coach late in a game, or perhaps a half.

Imagine this:

That same type of situation happens at the end of a half, or game, where there is a bit more time on the clock, and an audacious coach has put a package together with their kicker (and perhaps even holder and short snapper on it to fully sell it) and while they initially line up in a field goal formation...they quickly shift out of it.

They shift into something that is a personnel nightmare for the defensive personnel that was left on the field - I envision someone going quads to one side with three of those guys being tight ends and one being an electric athlete while the kicker becomes the single receiver on the other side - and ultimately dial something up that takes a shot at the end zone against a defense left frazzled and outmanned.

They go for the jugular...and are successful.

As soon someone does execute that to win a game, defensive coaches will surely appeal to the NCAA to crack down with a solution to close the loophole.

For now, it seem like the type of opportunity that's waiting for the right situation, and the right coach. When that happens, however long that may be, better bet we'll be revisiting this piece.

This is a classic Wade Phillips/Bill Parcells situation. The best year Dykes will ever have is year 1 because Patterson’s culture still exists on a senior laden roster but they are playing looser. The team will have a pretty steady decline if history is any indicator and regret this contract after year 3.
