To date there is only one texas media personality i literally can't listen to. And that is the one and only FCB.

That was until i heard Blake " fuck the brocks" brokermeyer on the Horn the other day.

I turned off the podcast faster than the time Ketch started off a podcast talking about running around the house naked.

What followed may have been the greatest football commentary of all time. But I'll never know. Because i cant listen to him.

Fuck the brocks

Why does ON3 include walk-ons in their team rankings?

That's interesting. On the one hand it makes the average ranking metric worthless, on the other hand, it properly values good PWO programs - shouldn't pulling Luke Brockermeyer from Rice/Oregon State or Cole Lourd from LSU mean something?

Here's how On3 talks about it for reference

https://www.on3.com/news/on3-consensus-team-recruiting-ranking-raises-the-bar/

Quote

+ The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking solves the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle. It compiles the highest-rated commits for each team up to a total based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools.

With this model, there are no bonus points for having more commitments than other teams and only small deductions occur when a team has fewer commitments than the rolling average. Unlike distribution (bell) curves, this model doesn’t disproportionately weight a team’s top three or four highest rated commits and is a more accurate representation of an entire class.

Their database is still kind of a mess. The fact that they had to check if he was on scholariship or not after committing tells us that they don't trust it to be accurate either. I would bet walk-ons fall off at some point, but can't say that for sure.

This is not a stupid question.

What does it mean when Wikipedia says UT has "Unclaimed National Championships"?

Are "Regents" big donors or some kind of board members or both?

Why does Machinator arrive, then go away a long time, then come back, then go away/repeat?

I don’t know but I bet aggy has a million of them

Board members of big donors basically. Board of regents, the individuals are referred to as regents

I’ve got a basic one - I know that BOMC refers to a Texas recruit getting a bump in the rankings after he commits to us, but what do the letters stand for? I assume “Burnt Orange” are the first two, but what about the “MC”?

UT is weirdly reticent about actually putting titles on the wall - Bama would have claimed all of these:

In 1914, Texas was selected as National Champions in 1914 by the Billingsley Report Ratings after finishing 8–0 on the season; this championship is recognized by the NCAA.

Texas was again selected as National Champions in 1918 by the Cliff Morgan Ratings when the team went undefeated at 9–0.

The 1930 team won the SWC Championship and was selected as the National Champion that year by several sportswriters however the school does not officially recognize this year.

In 1941, Bible then led the Longhorns to their 1st No. 1 ranking in 1941 during the season and finished the year 8–1–1 where many sportswriters named the 1941 team National Champions however they were not selected by the AP Poll that year. The 1941 Texas team is however recognized by the NCAA as National Champions.

The 1945 team was even selected by several sportswriters as the National Champion, but again the AP poll did not select them.

The 1947 team was even selected as National Champions by the Massey Ratings, but again the AP poll did not select them.

The 1950 team was also selected as National Champions by several polls, but AP poll kept Texas ranked third.

The 1968 Texas team would finish 3rd in the AP poll but were crowned National Champions by various polls which are recognized by the NCAA.

The 1977 Texas team has been recognized by various polls and the NCAA as the National Champion that year however the school does not claim this season as official.

The 1981 Texas team is recognized by the NCAA and various polls as the National Champion that year however the school does not claim this season as official.

Board members of big donors basically. Board of regents, the individuals are referred to as regents

https://www.utsystem.edu/offices/board-regents

It refers to the nine members of the board of regents for the entire University of Texas system, which encompasses 13 institutions, 8 educational institutions such at UT, UT-A, UTEP, UTSA, and 5 health institutions, which includes MD Anderson, UT Southwestern in Dallas, etc..

The Board of Regents is a political appointment done through the office of the Governor. Therefore it's generally given to people who donated generously or otherwise supported the elected Governor's campaign. At times appointees have no allegiance nor necessarily interest in the well being of the UT system. They are there at the behest of the governor. It's akin to some embassy appointments for the US President.

When people refer to Big Donors, Big Cigars, Big Boosters, what have you, they're specifically referring to people who have donated generously to UT, and in the context of sports fan forums, specifically to the athletic department. Their support has generally given them access unavailable to others. This is unrelated to being a regent, although the two can go hand in hand if someone who generously supports the athletic department also generously supports a governor's election campaign, and subsequently is named to the Board of Regents, which happens regularly.

I hope that helps.

Where can I find the highest video quality possible recordings of games back to at least the early 2000's?
I know I won't get any HD games from way back then.

But I'm hoping for at least not some copied-200-times VHS quality recordings.

Like the crappy feeds on Longhorns Network.

I can use my computer to upconvert the video but I'd like some cleaner originals.

I'm just a fan wanting to learn more about the Longhorns and football.

Also kind of a home theater geek, so that's' why I'm asking what I'm asking for.

When I was a kid, 4:3 aspect ratio in 480i resolution on a 27" TV was pretty awesome.
Now I don't want to watch anything less than 4K UHD on a 140" projector.

Yeah I still remember my bitch Sister refusing to let me watch the glory of Gilligan's Island on the color TV, because she had already started watching Mr. Rogers in black and white... on the fucking color TV!

Let me ask the more senior/knowledgeable members here...

What's better to have?

Two five-star OT's or four four-stars?

Or is it just a dumb question?

image.png.0d6c827457fecbd06aa5b182440309eb.png

Most of the data suffers from Small Sample Size issues.  A few different methodologies give different results, but if making it to the NFL is mostly indicative of a player having a successful college career, then that number is a good starting point.

The success rate for Five Star players is somewhere between 50-60%. The success rate for 4 stars is around 20-30%. But, 5Stars also have a higher average draft position.

So with a 2x to 3x better success rate, and typically a better performance, the 2 5Stars is probably the better bet.

Here's some more info:

Thank you, that was helpful.

I gave you a horns-up to offset a negative you may have gotten with the "got paid" post  for Kirkland in the recruiting thread.

Nah, I gave it because you were helpful to me.  Thanks!

I've got another dumb question.

I just added the sports package to my SlingTV and that comes with Longhorn Network.
So far, I've watched small bits of a Longhorns vs A&M and two Longhorns vs Nebraska that were the same game in a 2-3 day period.

Does Longhorn Network ever play a game where the Horns lose?
Or is every single game going to be a win?

It's more fun when I know we'll lose once in awhile and I dont know the outcome while watching the game.

ps.  Fuck Direct TV & Time Warner for when they used to (maybe still do?) tell you the winner of the game in the Programming Guide show description.

Big FU to ruining those games before I could even watch 'em.

That was for other channels though.  Not Longhorn Network which I'm not super familiar with because I rarely pay for TV.

I think so but it's very rare and only big games. I am wanting to say they played the 2009 National Championship game one time and the 2008 Tech game but I could be wrong.

In regard to the Bison Tits commitment... Why is everyone saying his wingspan will decrease if he loses weight?

Is there some inside joke I'm not privvy to?

One of the dipshit 9.95ers said he wasn’t very high on Cam Williams because he’s too heavy and if he lost weight his wingspan would somehow become shorter.

Yes. A 9.95er (maybe it was Roach?) mentioned that one of the Olinemen we signed last year would have to play guard in college, since his wingspan would shrink after ye lost some of his weight.

Dumb question amnesty about the SECSEC:

How is there an 'in-Saban-circle' with his recruting shens, but any competitor (not within the Saban coaching tree) gets fuckstarted for sending a fax?

e.g. Hugh Freeze @ Oxford for dumb-shit-bag-dropping (and misdialing an escort service) at the same time the Kirby Smart parted ways to Athens, where he redialed Saban's same connections to start buying his own classes.  So Saban and Smart are overlooked, but Pruitt gets ratted out for dropping literal McDonald's bags, then aggy blows their load on one class that Jimbo will certainly mismanage, only to end in a bitchfest.

It was Gabe Brooks.

He said, regarding Cam Williams - "We don't have a verified arm measurement, but we do know the wingspan is 6-11. That's +6 relative to height. How much of that is body width?" and then proceeded to say "We think he's anywhere from 350-370 right now. He needs to drop more weight. "

To which @Huckleberry extrapolated, "Holy fucking shit, you glossed right over the part where he said he wasn't sure how much credit Williams should get for his wingspan because he's fat. GABE BROOKS THINKS HIS WINGSPAN MIGHT SHRINK IF HE LOSES WEIGHT."

I know this is the stupid questions thread, but it really helps if the questions are written in something approaching intelligible English.

It's not difficult to follow if you understand the timeline of Mark Emmert's eventual castration, coordinated with Saban's perennial top recruiting classes, Kirby buying his own classes, and the two shitheels finally figuring out how not to start John Parker Wilson at QB.

Why do people hate Chip Brown?

FCB has a knack for posting numerous negative articles on Texas at terrible times....

Example:  Hit piece before signing day

As a result Texas lost Nik Bonitto to blOU (Edge rusher who is now NFL bound).

What has Texas lacked since Ossai left -- a fuckin' edge rusher.

More from @Machinator

as if you needed more evidence FCB is a complete shill for some people, here's some of his greatest hits:

So, I know I shouldn't pay any attention to Yah*o but here are their stats on the Longhorns as of 10/19/22

Passing Yards
92nd @253.7 PYPG

Rushing Yards

76th @179.9 RYPG

Total Yards Per Game
72nd@433.6 YPG

Those are not good numbers and definitely not great numbers.

I consider "great" to be anything in the top 15.  But that's just my opinion.

What would it take for us to get to #15 ranking in Passing Yards, and in Rushing Yards and in Total Yards?  Respectively?
