According to a GOP source familiar with the meeting, McCarthy will sit down with Trump at his New Jersey golf club to discuss upcoming special elections, vulnerable Democrats in 2022 and the GOP's record-breaking fundraising numbers.

He’s stopping in to kiss the ring. I don’t know who he’s talking to about these other topics but it’s not Trump. The only topic that will engage Trump for more than 30 seconds is Trump. When McCarthy meets with Trump he’ll have to sit there while Trump rants and raves in a stream of semi-conscious airing of grievances about how the election was stolen from him and other bitching and moaning about everyone who isn’t sufficiently loyal to him.

Donald Trump's campaign thought they were going to play in New Mexico, New York and Oregon in 2020.   Three states that ended up Biden +23, Biden +11 and Biden +16.

So I fully expect, when/if the topic of vulnerable 2022 Democrats comes up, he will tell McCarthy they need to focus on Schumer (NY), Blumenthal (CT) and Schatz (HI) and a bunch of safe blue House Dems like AOC, Omar, Eric Swalwell, etc.  He will just regurgitate whoever Fox News has recently mentioned.

Because he's a fucking moron.

And McCarthy will be told that if he doesn't do as Trump wants him to, McCarthy will be primaried as well.

Although I do think Trump will make it clear that McCarthy had better make sure that Jan. 6 is not tied to Trump.

Nicole Wallace had some stuff to say, along with the book.

Quote

Wallace, a former communications official in George W. Bush's White House evidently called her own GOP sources.

"What the book allows us to do is stop using the words 'struggled with,' 'tried and failed,'" she said of Republicans. "They failed to protect the country from Donald Trump. They failed. They failed to protect Mike Pence from Donald Trump. I want to read more about Mike Pence's experience on January 6th."

Quote

During her afternoon show "Deadline White House," Wallace read an excerpt of the Leonnig and Rucker book describing Vice President Mike Pence being rushed to safety with his family during the siege on the U.S. Capitol.

"At 2:26, after a team of agents scouted a safe path to ensure the Pences would not encounter trouble, Giebels and the rest of Pence's detail guided them down a staircase to a secure subterranean area that rioters couldn't reach, where the vice president's armored limousine awaited. Giebels asked Pence to get in one of the vehicles," the book described.

Quote

"We can hold here," Giebels told Pence.

"I'm not getting in the car, Tim," Pence told him. "I trust you, Tim, but you're not driving the car. If I get in that vehicle, you guys are taking off. I'm not getting in the car."

They found a secure underground area where they waited instead, the book explained.

Quote

At the White House, ret. Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Pence's national security adviser, ran into Tony Ornato who oversaw the Secret Service movements. Ornato told Kellogg that they were going to take Pence to Joint Base Andrews.

"You can't do that, Tony," Kellogg said. "Leave him where he's at. He's got a job to do. I know you guys too well. You'll fly him to Alaska if you have a chance. Don't do it."

Quote

Wallace then painted an even more dire picture.

"Pence feared a conspiracy, feared that the Secret Service would aid Trump and his ultimate aims that day," said Wallace. "This is the most harrowing version of Mike Pence's day I've seen reported."

If pence wouldn’t do his bidding and declare the Biden election off that day then trump wanted him dead so he therefore couldn’t declare the opposite. That’s what the insurrection was all about. Either Pence voids the results or he’s dead and can’t name Biden president. It’s all right there in trumps speech that day.

Two main reasons:

1) To relieve himself of responsibility

2) So he or whomever on the Right can claim it's all a partisan witch hunt

Before you reply that all that doesn't make any sense, consider that right wing media has already scrubbed the first vote from memory.

“And Mike Pence, I hope you're going to stand up for the good of our Constitution and for the good of our country. And if you're not, I'm going to be very disappointed in you. I will tell you right now. I'm not hearing good stories.”

Big burly man with tears in his eyes- “Sir, if mike pence doesn’t void the election results and send it back to the states to re-vote I’m afraid I’m gonna have to kill that motherfucker.”

Trump- “Well let’s see what pence does, but I hear what you’re saying.”

Some of the information coming out regarding the Secret Service is more than troubling. I'm having a little difficulty discerning what is conjecture (Mike Pence was afraid they would kill him or that they wanted to remove him to block certification versus wanting to remove him to keep him safe) but wow, it's just a shocker to realize for how long I've taken these oaths (of office) for granted.

Most of those guys were around Biden and Obama, and given Trump's disdain for the military (many SS had military backgrounds) and Trump putting his agents at risk for covid, among other things, and just being around Trump day in and day out and seeing a side of him that his supporters don't see, I'm willing to bet that they were not quite as loyal to Trump as the book makes out.

Didn't Biden swap out a decent amount of his service detail due to the fear of a few Trump loyalists not being trustable?

I thought he swapped some for agents that he had known for a long time.

I don't buy the Trump loyalist thing - those folks would have been fired or reassigned to non-protective jobs.

Mike Pence Prevented 'Martial Law' From Being Declared on 1/6: Dem Lawmaker

By Darragh Roche On 7/17/21 at 5:11 AM EDT

Representative Jamie Raskin suggested on Friday that former Vice President Mike Pence helped to prevent former President Donald Trump from declaring martial law because of his refusal to overturn the 2020 election results on January 6.

Raskin, a Democrat who represents Maryland's 8th congressional district, spoke to MSNBC's Chris Hayes about Pence's behavior on the day of the deadly Capitol riot and how events could have unfolded differently.

As vice president, Pence was tasked with overseeing the final certification of the Electoral College votes - a largely ceremonial role. However, he had come under pressure from Trump and others who wanted him to reject results favoring President Joe Biden and prevent the Democrat from winning the White House.

"All they wanted Pence to do was to rebuff the electors coming in from Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, lowering Biden's total below 270, kicking the presidential contest into a contingent election," Raskin said.

In the event that no presidential candidate can reach 270 Electoral College votes, the next president is selected by the House of Representatives. This rare situation has not arisen since the 19th century.

"And there they wanted it because we vote not one member, one vote, but one state, one vote," Raskin went on.

"And if they'd been able to do that, which would not have been really that much if you look at the different things Mike Pence did over the prior four years for Trump, they would have won it with 27 states to 22 for the Democrats and one tied."

"And at that point, he probably would've followed the advice of Michael Flynn and imposed martial law and a state of siege, and this would've been the Reichstag moment," he said.

Retired Lt. General Michael Flynn, who had served as Trump's National Security Advisor from January to February 2017, suggested in December 2020 that the then president could declare martial law and re-run the presidential election.

Hayes responded to Raskin's comments on Friday, saying: "If Pence had gotten up there that day and say 'I'm rejecting them,' there's no recourse."

"They would just steal it," Hayes said. "I mean that's the craziest thing, and I don't want to give Michael Pence, who's, you know, debased himself in a million ways, too much credit here, but like, that's what I'm hearing from you and that's my understanding as well, which is a kind of stomach-dropping realization to come to."

"It's an extraordinary thing," Raskin replied. "And nobody has yet been able to explain why exactly Vice President Pence did the right thing in upholding the constitutional order on that day. But it was a very thin thread that we were resting on."

Former President Trump recently denied that he had any intention of deploying the military in January this year after an upcoming book claimed that General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was concerned he would attempt a coup or take other illegal action.

Newsweek has asked Mike Pence's political advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom, for comment.

Secret Service intel briefings ahead of January 6 concluded there was no indication of civil disobedience

By Whitney Wild, CNN

Updated 10:08 PM ET, Thu July 15, 2021

The US Secret Service tracked groups planning to hold events at the US Capitol or the White House to support then-President Trump on January 6 but concluded there was no indication of possible civil disobedience, according to newly released documents obtained by the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

The documents provide a window into how the Secret Service distilled intelligence ahead of the January 6 insurrection -- and another example of how law enforcement underestimated the potential threats that day. The Secret Service gave the go-ahead for then-Vice President Mike Pence to preside over counting the Electoral College votes at the Capitol that day. Pence later was quickly escorted out by security after the building was breached by the mob.

The Secret Service had intelligence on a number of groups planning to hold pro-Trump events that promoted the lie that the election had been stolen, including social media discussions about "occupying" the Capitol, the documents obtained by the watchdog group show.

The records include two intelligence documents issued December 31 and January 4 for internal dissemination at the Secret Service about the "March for Trump." They described the groups planning to support Trump's claims, such as Stop the Steal, Women for America and Million MAGA March, which either organized or promoted the main event, a mass effort to overturn the election through demonstrations in Washington. For a number of smaller events that day, such as caravans to Washington, the document states: "There is no indication of civil disobedience."

In a statement, the Secret Service said, "While the Secret Service does not comment on our protective means and methods we consistently collaborate with our law enforcement partners for situational awareness in support of our protective mission."

The document also listed the Proud Boys among the groups promoting January 6 events. The Secret Service described them as "a right-wing" group that had been on the agency's radar since 2017. The agency said that "no civil disobedience or arrests have been recorded" in connection with Proud Boys demonstrations in that time.

However, the document does point out that media had reported stabbings "when Proud Boys clashed with counter-protestors" outside a Washington hotel where Proud Boys members frequently stayed and that the hotel planned to close between January 4 and January 6 for safety purposes.

Several alleged members of the Proud Boys face conspiracy charges for their alleged roles in the insurrection.

The Secret Service tracked the projected size of the crowd as well as the possibility of counterprotesters ahead of January 6. The intelligence brief obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington notes that the agency tracked less chatter from counterprotesters compared with past events. The Secret Service concluded the January 6 event would resemble past protests, with the potential for some violence but most likely from clashes with counterdemonstrators.

so, re: the above article:

EITHER

- 50000 people made the spontaneous decision to storm the Capitol with no planning, forethought or malice

OR

- the SS is incompetent

OR

- the SS deliberately whitewashed the intel because it really was game on (i.e., Pence was right)

OR

- the Boys withheld the fidelity model from the SS, so the SS produced the best report they could

OR

- the Boys' fidelity model sucks and we have wasted a Trillion dollars over the past 20 years

what other possible explanations am i missing

I don't intentionally peruse the dark and idiotic corners of the internet, but even I stumbled into a LOT of ominous talk about "something big" going down on January 6th with people announcing they were "going dark" until then and may wind up in jail or dead. It felt different than the usual internet bullshit. Did I expect anything substantial to actually come of it? No. But I'm not the Secret Service whose job it is to take every threat seriously.

There's no way that they were completely unaware of the chatter if they had bothered to look.

This. This. This. Ignoring the Real Estate Mavens Charter Stop The Steal Tour and Fan Bus, there were multiple posts even on (stupidly for them) public social media accounts talking about what to wear and what to bring, etc. Including burner phones. The accusations of antifa/BLM were really more of the false flag toward the GOP attendees when the actual Proud Boys still wore somewhat coordinated outfits even if it wasn't their usual polo shirts. Proud Boys, Oathkeeprs, 3%rs, and Patriot Front had been traveling nationwide to various cities to start stuff all summer and into the fall but the important thing to remember is that Chad Wolf was the "acting" DHS secretary, under which purview the Secret Service falls, at the time and he was conveniently overseas when this went down.

If a Mom can spot that all the players, large and small, are gathered around the board, I figure that Risk is about to commence. So wtf were they thinking or was that part to lay a plausible deniability paper trail?

What PdM said

And even though the evidence was present, nobody thought Trump was dumb enough to egg people on to do something like this (particularly his comments about Pence), and nobody thought Trump's followers were dumb enough to do it.

The SS briefings would have applied to a sane President who would do what he could to avoid people overrunning the Capitol.  Shit, Trump's family had to beg him to try and get his followers to leave the area.

The Secret Service knows who Roger Stone is and what he represents, but even if they, for some odd reason don't, the FBI sure does. He reactivated his *Stop The Steal website right after he was pardoned.

*it redirected after the 2016 election to another one of his sites until the pardon.

In hindsight based on my conversations with trump supporters beforehand it was obvious something was going down on January 6. I mean that is was common fucking knowledge, splashed all over the internet.

I was surprised as to the extent of what eventually happened as many but that's because it's not my fucking job to protect the capitol. Never in a million years did I think they would just sit back and allow it to happen which is exactly what they fucking did. Maybe they didn't expect such a large scale attack but they were basically a bunch of security guards defending a weekend farmers market with the kind of security they had that day.

No doubt it was deliberate and was orchestrated by Trump and his traitor sycophants.
