I dont think there has been a single All-Conference or even 2nd team player for a transfer to Texas in over a decade, from Texas is another story

Anthony Fera was the last one i can think of, and that was in 2011?

Quote

It was a breakout season for kicking specialist Anthony Fera, who was selected the 2011 first-team All-Big Ten punter by ESPN.com and second-team all-conference by the media and coaches.

Yeah, I guess. Not sure what PK would have done with him in this scheme. He’s listed at 225 so he couldn’t have played jack or Buck. Would have ended up off the ball probably.

I don't know why you think Vaughns would be too small to play Buck while PK continues to march Ovie Oghoufo out on the field. You clearly didn't see Utah State/Vaughns last year if you don't realize he'd have been a marked improvement over a spare like Oghoufo.

Idk man, probably the fact that Oghoufo is 240 pounds and still considered undersized for the position leads to my thinking that Vaughn at 225 pounds probably isn’t playing Buck.

Carry on though.

While most have thought Texas would be his ultimate destination given the Horns’ need at the position, the relationship between Mathis and Gary Patterson, and the proximity of Manor to Austin, it appears any and all competition isn’t going down so easily.

Literally just read this and stfu. It’s all fodder.

Trying to think, since the portal became a thing, has there a been a guy who's transferred from Texas and just absolutely tore it up at his new school? Most successful transfers I can think of are Buechele and Cam Rising.

Those two are about it. Ingram averaged 5.8 ypc and was honorable mention at USC last year. Bimage was also honorable mention and we absolutely could've used him at edge last year.  Vaughns could make the list with more development and production. I'll be curious to see how Alford and Kenyatta Watson perform.

Beuchele wasn't a big loss because we had Sam. While Rising wasn't a world beater at Utah last year, his transfer hurt, because he absolutely would've been better than Card/Thompson. We probably win at least 2 more games last year with Rising.

guessing naming a starter THIS early is because Shapen said he was going to portal out and he would rather have Shapen than Gerry B?

Bohanon is terrible at throwing the football and he limited their offense a ton. I bet the Baylor coaching staff is plenty confident with naming Shapen the starter and trying to find a backup now, rather than splitting reps all offseason only for Bohanon to likely transfer out in the Fall anyways.

I’m not sure what the story is on Watson. Looked like he didn’t even play last year at GT. If he did I can’t find any stats. I’m assuming if he shows any sort of a pulse this year he will just grad transfer next offseason to go join his dad at Florida State.

Mathis' mom shows up live in the chat on just about every Orangebloods youtube video. If he ends up going somewhere else then we have catastrophically fucked something up.

YOu got me. I shoudl have said no kickers.

he's literally the only one i could think of who would have been a difference maker before coming here haha either way, he was more than 10 years ago so your point still stands!

Aranda named Shapen the starter

That’s pretty bold to have named a starter other than the guy who led the team to a hugely successful year, conference championship and Sugar bowl win…. And to do it in the spring.
And annually we gotta pretend that it’s neck and neck until a week before the first game.

Isn't CTJ's story on this (not doubting it, btw) that there was indeed work to do and we did the work?

I think it was something like that.

Mathis has been in the portal for almost 4 months now and it's known since the beginning that it was going to be a long  process. No one anywhere has said with absolute certainty that he is headed to x school. Everyone interprets things differently. I read it as an update saying we think Texas has a pretty good chance but we haven't heard anything for sure. I guess it's kinda hedging, but Mathis' recruitment has been pretty tight lipped since the beginning. No one seems to know jack so I don't know how anyone can read that update and say "we definitely aren't getting Mathis".

I've been hearing Vaughns became really good, but how much of that is just the drop in competition? Had a good game against SDSU, but who else did they play? Maybe he'd be an improvement over OO, but he didn't look too good when he played while he was here.

Didn't he flash in mop up duty a couple of games here? I recall thinking he had potential and not happy he left.
