Gavin Newsom Recall

People are mad about the shutdown last year and the French Laundry thing.  Really though, the republicans are trying to take advantage of the shitty recall laws and lack of interest from the public and sneak one of their own into office.  I think they are banking on a potential Diane Feinstein death and then having their governor in a position to appoint a replacement, tipping the senate majority over to the GOP.  Diane Feinstein really needs to retire [s]right now[/s] FIVE YEARS AGO and take the wind out of the sail of this thing.

Oh we're losing?  Well it must be fraud then.

California’s gubernatorial recall election is a week away, but some Republicans and prominent voices on the right are already falsely claiming it’s unfairly tilted in favor of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

Former President Donald Trump ― who was impeached for inciting the violent Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection with lies about the 2020 presidential election ― weighed in on the Sept. 14 California recall on Tuesday with a complaint about the state’s early vote-by-mail system.

“It’s probably rigged,” Trump said during an interview on right-wing cable channel Newsmax. “They’re sending out all ballots ― the ballots are mail-out, mail-in ballots. I guess you even have a case where you can make your own ballot. When that happens nobody’s going to win except these Democrats.”

The “rigged” election rhetoric in the California recall continues a trend in the Republican Party of questioning the legitimacy of America’s elections and democracy itself, even after the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill that led to several deaths and the injuries of more than 140 police officers.

If anything, members of the GOP seem to be doubling down on the strategy, embracing efforts to “audit” legitimate 2020 elections in states like Arizona and Nevada, and spewing more dangerous lies about election security and voter fraud.

There’s been no evidence of widespread voter fraud in California’s recall election. Moreover, even some Republican-controlled states like Utah rely on voting by mail to run their elections.

If there is one way the election is actually “stacked” against Republicans, it’s that California simply boasts many more registered Democratic voters ― by nearly a 3-1 margin. There’s nothing rigged about that; California is a blue state, and a Republican-led recall effort was always going to have difficulty there.

Recent polling has found the recall effort losing steam and Newsom’s favorability rebounding, something that is probably driving the early accusations of widespread election fraud on the right. Democrats were worried that lax voter engagement could pave the way for a GOP governor in California, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren similarly claimed this week that the “only thing” that will save Newsom is voter fraud.

“So, as they say, stay woke, pay attention to the voter fraud going on in California, because it’s going to have big consequences not only for that state, but for upcoming elections,” she added.

It’s happening all over the fucking country. Republicans must think it’s not possible for people to support democrats or something.

In Virginia Governor race - former Democratic governor is crushing it in the polls and has a theoretical 10 point lead over the GOP challenger. GOP is trying to get Democratic governor disqualified because he forget to sign one page of a long document with his signature all over it elsewhere.

In Illinois- one of the few states where democrats can draw the maps. Illinois state constitution requires that the legislature put forth the first try or proposal of the map by the end of June. Only problem is the census data didn’t come out until late august. GOP wants older map thrown out and the map drawing to revert to a bipartisan commission where they flip a coin on the last member to determine party control. Yes……the GOP wants to use the pandemic and the federal governments delayed release of the detailed census data as a way to try and gain control of the Illinois map when they already control nearly every other state in the country.

I can’t stand these assholes.

It's not even going to be close at this point.  Once it got nationalized and Elder become the face of the recall (about a month ago), it went from 50/50 in the tracker to "keep" winning by 13 now.

YouGov: Keep 56-44
Trafalger: Keep 53-43
Suffolk: Keep 58-41
SurveyUSA: Keep 54-41
UC Berkley: Keep 60-39

Recall has been hitting that low-40s ceiling that isn't a big surprise in California.

Republicans are going hard in the paint this weekend about there being fraud before the election.

If you see fraud everywhere you look maybe, just maybe, you're the one engaging in fraudulent behavior or something.

They have figured out that sowing the doubt is what works amongst a populace where less than 50% or whatever vote. It’s a gruesome tactic, but an effective one. I fear it is the ultimate destiny of democracy. You can’t have this many people and expect them to be smart enough to make a logical system work.

Honestly, we were lucky it worked this long. The advent of a system that allowed us to communicate instantly and without filter was the nail in the coffin.

That system has fucked up democracy as well as a helluva lot of marriages.  Fitting I suppose.

I mean if the republicans are gonna say any election they inevitably lose was rigged no matter what just fucking rig it then.

It’s actually kind of good that they are doing this with every election.  That claim will lose its bite pretty quickly if they say it every time they lose.

Except they only need it to be effective for this legislation period where most restrictive voting laws will be voted on. Then they can just change outcomes themselves. Again, I don’t think people understand the enemy. They think we are still in normal times. And Rs will win elections they have no business winning.

Today is the day!  I started out right, was out on a morning run and saw this shitty 4ft by 10ft cardboard sign taped to the fence by the interstate.  It was hastily spray painted and said “use common sense recall Newsom.”  I used common sense and ripped that motherfucker down. (And disposed of properly in a recycle bin)

Antifa!!!!!

Right?! Isn't "it's already rigged" how the GQP lost the GA senate seats? How is this a sound strategy?

That is actually exactly what happened.  GOP stronghold counties in GA saw a higher drop-off in vote share for the runoff due to GOP screaming it was rigged/fake runoff.
