Someone a while back recommended "Brendyn's" BBQ in Nacogdoches so Mrs Shooter and I gave it a try last weekend. I'm glad to say the brisket was spot on. Tried both sauces, a more traditional red sauce and a yellow(mustard?) sauce. The red one was very bland and reminded me of a poor quality store bought sauce. The yellow sauce was so vinegary and overwhelmingly strong that it totally suffocated the flavor of the meat completely. I'm not much of a sauce person anyway(unless it's my own), but they were horribad, but the brisket on its own was great. Got beans as a side since for some reason they were out of potato salad at 11:40am, and they opened at 11:00am? They were the baked beans and would rate a 3.5 on a 10 scale.

Brisket... great, pass on the rest.

Got some Brendyn’s earlier this week. The brisket and burnt ends were top notch. The ribs were mediocre and the sausage was bad. I threw it out; tasted like cased dog food.

This is what the TM50 taste like outside of the big cities? Oof.

churchrow.  mollejas on the left, very good.  tortilla 10/10.  brisket 8/10, sausage 9.5/10, pulled pork 8/10, pork rib 9/10.  cole slaw did its job admirably.

Went there with a buddy before Thanksgiving, and they hooked us up with a free cornbread.  Oh man...

Stopped by Churchrow Tejas Barbecue today for lunch.   No line at Noon on a Saturday is not a great sign for a barbecue joint.

Noticed the distinct smell of mesquite smoke on the way in.

Got most of my order to go, so not much barbecue porn.  As I was ordering Miguel walked up and cut off the brunch menu, except for the Real Deal Holyfield.

A quentisential piece to Tex Mex barbecue.  A quarter pound slice of brisket on a homemade tortilla slathered with refried beans, fried potatoes, a fried egg, and salsa.  Outstanding as usual.

A nice place in north Austin.  We'll see how long it lasts.

I mean I’m sure they got that property and buildout for a song, but yeah… I just think that location is doomed, and Vidal’s reputation likely doesn’t help.

I need to stop in and give it a go before it goes up in smoke.
