quote:
Is there a particular time pre-game that A&M fires the cannon as a part of their traditions?
Yes. That is how the officials knew it was coming and asked the players to move.
quote:
I appreciate that they warned the players but is there some reason they had to fire just then?
The Corps has a whole list of things that they do in a very specific order before every game. Foul up one of them, and the whole thing goes off the rails.

Does this look bad? Sure. But I have zero sympathy for folks that were asked to move and refused to do so. Stupid games, stupid prizes.

I like how those gomers are straight up DEDICATED to the seat number on their tickets. Move closer or find a seat out of the rain or something….

Or just sit there and think about how you should have gone out to the farm to get fucked by your favorite alpaca today instead

Corp Commandant in panic mode:

Texas A&M‘s Parsons Mounted Cavalry fired a ceremonial blank round as the Aggies ran out onto Kyle Field prior to Saturday’s game. Two opposing team members unfortunately opted not to move from the end zone after being warned that the cannon was about to be fired.

At no point were the players in any danger. A 25-foot zone surrounding the cannon is outlined by red paint on the track even though the impact area is 10 feet. Sandwich boards also are up around the canon alerting the public to it firing without warning.

Prior to the canon ever being fired, cadets and staff members always clear people out of the 25-foot zone.
Traditionally, the canon is fired in celebration after the Aggie score a touchdown.

Mid-season, Parsons Mounted Cavalry was asked by athletics to also fire its canon as the Aggie football team runs out onto the field.

The Parsons Cavalry are the same outfit that shoveled horse shit into the Longhorn band. Classy bunch. Quite representative of that aggy hospitality the best fans in the world are renowned for.

It's like they believe those fucking dork make-believe soldiers have more right to be on the field than the actual players

If I were in charge at that school (fuck that), I’d kick the cadets responsible out of school. Shooting that cannon with them in front of it was reckless, I don’t care how safe someone thinks it is. That is inexcusable behavior.

Of course, aggy is run by hive-minded psychos. They’ll probably give those morons some sort of awards, maybe national championship trophies with black years, and they’ll go down as legendary keepers of the flame. What a shitty “university.”

don't forget that aggiehank86 above told us that:

"The Corps has a whole list of things that they do in a very specific order before every game. Foul up one of them, and the whole thing goes off the rails."

aggy had not just scored a touchdown, and aggy were not running out on to the field, but by god, they had to fire that cannon to keep their traditions on track
