Texas needs that to happen but OU/OSU are the two best teams left.

Yup, I thought Texas could beat any of the teams here outside of those 2 unless it really went our way for a game.

But if Oklahoma State loses this that should give Texas a ton of confidence. While unlikely, they could win 3 in a row against Arizona and Florida.

To beat OU it would take a nearly perfect game from Texas.  OU has a substantially better lineup and pitching is slight advantage for OU with Trautwine over Dolcini. It has nothing to do with coaching, playing better, different approach, etc. OU just has lot more talent than we do currently.

This was a great step for Texas but reality is nobody in the country is beating this OU team until they get the same level of talent.

While most of what you said is true, blOU was not that sharp today -- if Texas played better they "could have won" today.

Texas did beat blOU in a game earlier this season. With that current blOU pitcher, ucla/okielite/Texas "can" all beat this current blOU team the way the gooners are currently playing.

Not a good start today, giving up the hr and down 2 zip before most of the fans had taken a bite of their popcorn.

Yup. Absolute difference from Arky game 3 and the UCLA game where we scored first.

However, we have played well backs against the wall. UW game 7, Arky games 2 and 3. We kind of like that position

The difference between OU and Texas is they have 8 players with 7 or more HRs. We have 4.

Their lineup is up to down with hitters that can leave the park. They only need 1 or 2 swings a game to completely change the game. Texas has to get more players that can hit for power.

And maybe we can do some Patriots level spying on their practice/batting approach

And that is what we need to do - recruit Calif which has overall superior talent.    Gasso is from Calif,  many connections.

We never stood a chance with Coleman vs OU.    She is from The Colony, Mom is a high school coach and Dad is a travel ball coach. (they were, not sure if active)     All those kids from North Dallas have been OU brainwashed.   Even aggy and Baylor have written off North Dallas to concentrate on Houston with us.  Tech gets a couple of leftovers.

But hopefully this CWS appearance will be the beginning.

Edit:  Let's hope OKSt can win this WCWS if we don't.

High variance sport and all that.

That said, OU's average score vs ranked teams is now 6.8 - 2, almost the same as last year vs ranked opponents, and the same as today's score. Consistency.

Trautwein did a great job avoiding walks, which has been an issue for her at times.

True, but if you switched coaches would there really be much difference?

It's like Alabama always being damn good in football. It doesn't matter who their offensive coordinator or defensive coordinators are. They just have more talent than everyone.

If White was coaching that OU lineup I bet they put up very similar offensive numbers.

Texas hitters swinging early in counts with runners on base were "gifts" to Trautwein avoiding walks, which has been an issue for her at times.

FIFY

Trautwein definitely didn't have her best stuff today.

They had a small piece during the game on their batting coach….literally studies what swings works against what pitches using data analysis. Then they watch MLB and other softball players in those scenarios on film.

I think the difference is the program overall. OU is committed, their new facility is going to be top tier.  Mike is attempting to get us in that direction with our young players proving they love the game, our culture is changing in a positive way. The new indoor is great. Our stadium will never be good with having to go so vertical with our stands but it seems that is what we'll have. Love the attitude of our ladies and their passion for the game.

Look forward to seeing how it develops into next year because I'll admit, I didn't think it was possible with this group.

There's nothing unique to OU's hitting approach.

Their lineup just has a bunch of top 10 recruits. It's all talent.

OU was just another program using baseball tools and analytics. Tim Walton was OU hitting coach before Florida - baseball guy. JT Gasso - baseball guy

Hence why I really liked the Singleton hire - same thing. Just gotta match up them with similar talent now

It’s a simple formula really. You just have the best pitchers and hitters in the country, top to bottom. That way, when the pitchers are off a bit, the offense picks up the slack, and vice versa. More teams should try that. We should try that.

In all seriousness, we did great just taking 1 out of 3 against them, at home. There’s no way we are gonna hang with that lineup on a consistent basis. No one is.

It’s a shame the two okie schools are the best in the country and they just happen to be in our conference. We are playing pretty good ball right now, and White is squeezing all the juice from the lemon he can this year.

Yup, we are playing like a top 5 team in the country right now.

Just don’t have the talent yet to win a national title. People forget that it took Gasso a long time to build this monster. Only 1 national title in her first 18 seasons.

White just needs time to get the talent here but he’s proven time and again that he can maximize a roster.

The funny thing about Gasso is she was Jerritt Elliott until she finally won her 2nd title. She had a lot of great teams that came up short of a championship.

This is why you always stick with a coach like Jerritt Elliott. If you keep building super teams like Gasso and Elliott it’s just a matter of time until they break through.

No, Gasso is not Elliott. 2012 is literally a decade ago. She wins, we don’t.

Gasso had 1 national title in her first 18 seasons. You think a decade is a long time ago? It took Gasso 13 years in between her first national championship and her 2nd national championship.

OU fans used to say the same stuff about Gasso early in her career. Great coach that could never get over the hump for a 2nd national championship.

It now looks incredibly stupid doesn't it?

She now is in the national title hunt every year, & closes.

We are in the national title hunt most years in vball, do not close.

You are missing the point.

That's exactly who Gasso was early in her career. Gasso made 7 or 8 WCWS in her first 18 years and only closed on 1 national championship. The narrative you have for Elliott is the exact same narrative that existed with Gasso.

Will Elliott get over the hump? I have no clue but I do know he's doing the exact same thing Gasso does which is stack incredible talent.

Gasso has also been relatively open about how her attitude and approach were keeping the team from achieving between that first and second win.  Somewhat remarkable for a professional coach at any level to be able to diagnose and correct that.  Ego problems tend to stop people from fixing ego problems.

AAS article about incoming infielder Leighann Goode and SA O'Connor winning State yesterday.  (excerpts)

In the victory, Goode went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. She also scored a run and stole two bases.

A shortstop and leadoff hitter, Goode hit .500 over her two games at this weekend's state tournament. Goode earned a spot on the Class 6A all-tournament team.

When Goode signed with Texas this past November, she was rated by Softball America as the No. 40 recruit in her class. Extra Inning Softball evaluated Goode as a top-20 prospect and top-three infielder.

"A Texas native, Leighann is a talented, five-tool athlete who can play infield or outfield with equal ability," Texas coach Mike White said. "We see Leighann contributing to our team immediately and over the years to come."

Goode joins Citlaly Gutierrez as the 2022 Texas recruits who have won a state title at McCombs Field. Last year, Gutierrez led Stamford to the Class 2A title. Katie Cimusz (Humble Atascocita) and Sophia Simpson (Barbers Hill) are the current Longhorns who won state championships while attending Texas high schools.

So to win this thing we have to beat Arizona, OSU twice in a row, then take 2 of three from either UCLA or OU?  Ok, it’s been a fun season.

Yes. Get to tomorrow and it’s a top 4 finish nationally. Best since 2013 (3rd)
