His statement in the first tweet certainly does NOT apply to this board. I'm pretty sure most here have operated under the assumption that we did/do. We've had discussions about the topic.

surprised the rooskies didn't send a sub to take it out before it could arrive

They really should announce something like “in light of new information that has been passed on to us, we are releasing this yacht from US custody and the owner is free to take it.  Also, we are lifting all sanctions and restrictions on the owner of this yacht.”

Just randomly drop restrictions on various oligarchs.  Make Putin paranoid as fuck.

Michael Tracey IS a Russian troll. Well known shitheel who did some seriously garbage “reporting” from Rzeszow in the first weeks after spending the winter swearing the attack wouldn’t happen and calling predictions “fraudulent” and “phony.” Total piece of shit who deserves no benefit of the doubt.

That poor boy is clearly still traumatized from that severe beating he took from Maxine Waters.

Kurds always getting thrown under the bus.

I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. I assume Erdogan was holding out for some sort of gift and I hope that as soon as the papers are signed and the Finns and Swedes are members of NATO they’ll continue to operate as usual with regard to the Kurds.

Erdogan sucks. It’s a mess. We can’t kick Turkey out of NATO. It’s probably a bad thing that the coup attempt didn’t succeed. The value of a secular, mainstream, moderate Muslim majority country in our Western alliance can’t be overstated. But then the religious nuts are busy taking over our own country so we have bigger fish to fry here at home.

Religion poisons everything.

He has an election coming up in a year, so hopefully the west won't have to deal with him much longer.

Only a moron would think there aren't intelligence guys on the ground, it's literally their job. They're aren't any actual military formations in Ukraine. There's a difference.

If we have an embassy there, we have a CIA presence there.

Does anyone here think this goes through next winter without some sort of ceasefire? Europe is going to be bent over a barrel and they will be pushing us and Ukraine to find an off ramp.

Europe wants to be done with Putin once and for all.  That means finding alternate energy sources, supplying Ukraine, etc.

Hell, even Germany is looking at confiscating part of Nordstream 2 and using it.

Hell, Finland and Sweden are joining NATO.

Joe Biden and his team are not getting enough credit for getting Finland and Sweden across the fin(n)ish line. Adding those two is a massive upgrade to the Alliance. Unlike the last few rounds, they come to the table ready and with plenty to offer.  His team used a lot of patient and non-histrionic diplomacy with the Turks and the Nordics to get to “yes” in a way everyone can live with.  The Alliance and Western security is stronger.

When it comes to foreign policy, Biden’s hit a home run. When it comes to inflation and gas prices and supply chain issues, those are global problems so I don’t know how any of those can be blamed on him. Of course the Republicans are going to blame him for them just out of partisan self-interest. Here’s something bad, blame a Democrat.

The Ukrainians might build him a statue. They would’ve been fucked of Trump were re-elected.

Of course the moron Republicans want Biden to somehow take over the means of production in the oil industry so we can have cheaper gas prices,  but they also are strongly against socialism...

Let me slow it down for you.

1) they blame Biden for gas prices,  but Biden does not control production... they want Biden to lower gas prices,  but how can he without controlling the means of production of oil? Therefore,  they want Biden to adopt a socialist policy because prices.

2) they are radically anti-socialist

Yes,  it makes no sense... it's just another of their complete cognitive failures involving cognitive dissonance

I really hate sacrificing the Kurds to Erdogan to get it done, but adding Finland and Sweden to NATO is a big fucking deal.

Expanding NATO is a big deal and a big “Fuck you!” to Putin. I don’t know to what extent we’ve sold out the Kurds. I haven’t heard any reporting on it. Is it worse than when Trump betrayed them in Syria?

Iron Man Reaction GIF

Taking in millions of refugees, paying a shitload more for gas, food, electricity, etc., and having Russia threaten them, isn’t testing their resolve?

Shit, the US is now supplying more natural gas by ship than Russia is by pipeline and the Germans are going to take part of Nordstream 2 from the Russians.  Things are changing.

And Putin is helping out by having his pundits go on Russian TV and talk about nuking Europe and America.

Global problems? Biden literally blamed it all on "Russia, Russia, Russia". Are they a crumbling paper tiger that can't even take on Ukraine or this ominipotent superpower that not only controls our elections but global energy prices, inflation, & supply chains? You can't have it both ways.

any russians living abroad might be best to stay where they are

This has been the case for every Russian who is is conscription age. When I was at UT, one of my buddies was an international student from St. Petersburg, and for about 18 months he couldn't go home to Russia to visit his family for fear of them taking his passport and compelling him to military service. And that was back in 2013!

I can't imagine any good reason to go to Russia now. It's a damn steel trap waiting to keep you stuck inside, just ask Ms. Griner
