Heard a couple weeks back he was going to hit the portal. Staff is meh on him

This is still all the chaff before the wheat. These are roster churn guys, malcontents or dudes with a destination already. The real portal prizes will probably come after the semester is done, do you think a dude that’s worth a damn wants his peers calling him a mother fucker during finals because he’s in the portal? Let things play out

Also no sense giving the staff the chance to duck with your grades on the way out the door. Or more likely no sense taking away their motivation to fuck with your grades in a positive direction.

Lots of scrubs who will soon realize they don't have a team anymore.

Who risk going from a school where they had a scholarship to potentially landing without a scholarship

This is probably the best part of the portal, dudes that are too stupid to realize how valuable their scholarship and an education is bailing because they think they are headed to the NFL from the 2 deep on some shit ass team.

Nahlin guesses TCU for Earle.

Gonna be interesting to see how the different portal strategies between UT (recuiting on-the-field experienced & productive portal transfer players) and other in-state Big 12 schools like TCU & UH (recruiting portal players who were highly-recruited outta of H.S., but haven't proven it on-the-field yet at the college level) will work out long term.

This also shows how absolutely moronic the timing of this is. Before playoffs, bowls, signing day, and what will never ever be considered, academics. Portal should open after the end of the NCG

That's too late for some schools to get kids in for the spring semester, isn't it? I think this is the best option of bad options. Lets some guys go through bowl practice and bowl game to finalize their decision.

Guys have been announcing their intent to enter the portal all week, since their seasons ended. Not sure that would change if the official date moved forward a month.

So…we all know that they don’t actually transfer immediately upon entering the portal, right? Okay. Just checking…

Would seem to be an effective selling point in recruiting if Texas guaranteed 4 years of education, even if the kid hits the portal and winds up without an offer somewhere else. You play for Texas, you get an education. If things aren't working out on the football front, we made a commitment to your education and we will honor that.

I mean, you’re being a little harsh on our team.

But their scholarship can be revoked immediately, right?

What Happens to My Current Scholarship When I Enter the Transfer Portal?

NCAA DI schools are allowed to cancel or reduce a student’s scholarship as early as the next term after a student-athlete enters the Transfer Portal. Unfortunately, for those students who enter the Transfer Portal and then change their mind at a later date, they may have lost their scholarship (and their roster spot) by the time they finalize their decision. NCAA DII schools may also cancel or reduce a scholarship at the end of the period of the award on the scholarship agreement.
