TBF, second was settled when City beat us. Even if we win out, I can’t see them dropping five points. We need to learn that “killer mentality” that y’all had and City have.

Well we could also use the depth City has...makes that killer instinct a bit easier to come by.

outstanding performance by the team as a whole, and by a few individuals as well. holy shit what a game from xhaka. that right there was exactly what we all needed after the way things have been going lately. a totally complete, gutty performance from beginning to end. nufc were really unlucky to not come away with at least a point, but you can't say we didn't deserve to win either. we were really good today. that was fun. COYG!! 🔴

Need to win the next two and hope City mixes in a draw or loss in their next three to at least make the final day nervy for them.

Maybe Madrid can kick them in the dick and set up a fall.

Thank god for Ramsdale.  Man of the match, and the last several games.  Gritty road win, one to build from.

Yup x 3.

That was a great result. St James’ is a fearsome atmosphere when Newcastle are good, and they’re good. Only their second (?) home loss this season. Weathered their opening, Cap took a beauty, then we held on before (I’d say) forcing Schar - who should have been off on a red by then - into an OG: he knew Jesus was behind him for a tap-in. Clean sheet and onto Brighton.

Yes City have 16-7 players, but us winning also means Pep has to keep running out his stronger-st sides. Hopefully playing every three days for six weeks will bite them at some point.

Ramsdale MoTM, but Jorginho had a low-key great performance today.

This match showed what doing some rotation can do.   Need to add 4-5 guys for next year and Arteta needs to be willing to trust the depth.  Feel like every season Arteta learns from his mistakes and improves.

Another £250m from investment this summer and we in business.  There are reports that KSE was ready to pay whatever for Caicedo and Mudyrk, but Arteta and Edu said no. Stick to the plan. They’ve gotten a taste of winning (Rams and Avs) and want to keep it going. Plus we’ll have CL revenue next year.

Yes, loved Jorginho’s game today.  Kiwior was also quietly big.

Indeed. He’s an upgrade on Holding, If we could have gotten Kiwior some experience before Anfield and City

To that point

Really, REALLY don’t want to lose Tierney this summer. Arteta needs to let him do what he was born to do - bomb down the wing and whip in a cross - as a change of pace. And, as noted, he’s better defensively. He looks lost trying to be Zinchenko. But that point is so valid. Use the squad.

I read that so far this season Newcastle had only lost one game at home.  It was a nice win.

Cocksucker deserved to score the clincher for us.

Side note: he sees a straight-red if he performs that same ”tackle” on Kane. Refs let an insane amount of stuff go against us.

This fucking sucks, dropping 12 of 21 points, getting absolutely run at home. It was a hell of a season, and a successful one. We aren’t deep enough or experienced (players and manager) to win the League yet. Yet. But we will be soon.

Add 3-4 difference makers this summer and go again next year.

Our “Plan A” with our best XI is pretty damn salty. It’s enough to see off most clubs most days. It’s apparent, though, Arteta needs to get better at Plan Bs, when injuries hit and/or other clubs have a good plan. Hopefully another good summer window plus Jan 2024 will allow more rotation so we aren’t on vapor in April.

iirc our actual starting xi is 18-0-0 on the season. shows how good we are at our best, but also highlights how much we need to add even more top flight players if we want to challenge Saudi Sheikh FC.

Next year will be busy with Champions League and Europa League.  So, we need more depth on the second line.

“Is this a collapse? Arsenal have lost/are losing/will lose the league because they dropped nine points in four games across 17 days in April, when they kept scoring but just couldn’t keep them out. They collapsed/choked/lacked character because the squad wasn’t deep enough to allow for the loss of a key defender, because their best attacking players have no rotational backup and have grown weary in the last few weeks of an endless season. Above all they are an ordinary, mortal, very good team. As opposed to a generational winning machine treading its own path towards something entirely new. Near-perfection is the standard now. City have completed their 11th straight league win, doing all this at a point in the season when your average stretched and faltering champion team starts to tie up and feel the burn.“

Good article on how we didn’t “bottle it.” We just weren’t close enough to perfect.

Yet.

Don’t blame Xhaka wanting to move on & leave on a high, and it would have been fitting for him to play Champions League football in our shirt after struggling through the down years. But we could have used him next year as depth and cover in MF. We CANNOT be last in this metric again next year.

Be careful what you wish for with that graph.  It only reflects depth for a select few clubs that actually have some.  For most, it is an indication that the a club was saddled with injuries or that they were repeatedly throwing shit at the wall hoping for better results.  Two of the top three clubs are at the bottom for a reason.

Very true that you don’t want to be leading that metric, but being last by a bit isn’t good either. We can do with rotating a bit more to keep guys fresher at the business end of the season. That balance isn’t easy to find, though. Hopefully adding in the summer will get us closer to it.
