agree. The biggest issue in that regard is Quinn rarely uncorked a throw. He just prefers to feather the ball.

Yeah, Id agree with that.

The long ball isn’t the primary measure of arm strength. Those deep outs from the opposite hash that he’s demonstrated are throws most guys are simply incapable of making.

Fair enough.  I think the guys at IT highlighted one of his throws from ou49-0 that showed elite arm strength though that was preinjury

Someone start the "Quinn Ewers: NFL Bust or Canton-bound?" thread.

I'm kidding. Please don't.

For the love of all that is right in the world just please let this abomination of a thread die.

Quinn Ewers made it cool again for high profile 5-star national recruits to go to Texas and we all should be forever grateful.  Although the circumstances and on field results are different, it’s not much unlike the effect James Brown had by making Texas “cool” in places and areas we hadn’t been so much (IYKYK)

His transfer immediately legitimized Sark and paved the way for an influx of talent that accelerated our ascension by at least a year or two.

Thanks for all of the above QE and go be one of the guys we always cheer for whether it’s on Sundays or when they show you on the big screen at DKR taking in a game

I also believe Quinn coming here enabled Arch to commit to us. Those in the know said Arch and family wanted him to red shirt. We had no one on the roster that would have been seen as a starter over Arch and Georgia probably wins the recruitment.

Yep. Someone will likely coach that out of him. Amazing Sark did not in regards to the deep throw.

I'm convinced backup QB is the best NFL job you can have. Make a nice amount of scratch -- see Colt McCoy -- and exit football with your brains (mostly) intact.

Hasn't he had multiple concussions, a broken leg, and an assortment of other injuries? Long snapper is the way to go for minimal stress and wear and tear. Long career almost guaranteed and you do practically nothing.

We coached in into him. He was firing lasers early in his career on deep balls. But they were usually overthrown and didn't give the receiver a chance. The moonballs came as an adjustment to at least let the receiver adjust to throw.

was terrified every time he had to play, and any extended playing time usually meant he was moved the next season.

This.  Perfectly analogous to Simms in 99.  The top QB in the country - who could have gone ANYWHERE - joins a UT that had been floundering and underperforming, and makes it a LOT easier for Texas to recruit five-star guys on both sides of the ball.

The monster roster that went 25-1 over 04 and 05 might not have been assembled without that (unlikely) first domino.

Hopefully the analogy continues with a Texas MNC here in the next couple years.

camp ewers would do well to reach out to the following franchises and let it be known they would be very easy to work with ($) should he land there:
bills
chiefs
eagles
49ers
packers
ravens
steelers
he needs a favre/rogers situation: 3 years to rebuild from the ground up
let us pray he does not end up with:
browns
jets
raiders
etc.

Rams in the 3rd, sit behind Stafford for a bit

My bet is he goes before that. I’d guess first round more likely than 75 or later.

I wish him all the best and thank him for bringing hope back to the fans! Hook’em! I will pray Quinn goes to a good team. And has a long career. It really is about the team that drafts you not necessarily what pick or what round you go. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸🎸🎸🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

I’d like to see him go to Rams or SF or Seattle.

If he gets David Carr-ed, by going to a team that says, "OK, do it yourself, 'Hero!'", and has no offensive line/running for his life, he will forever have the yips/get-crushed.

Seriously. Chase Daniel made $41m as a career backup. Only started 5 games in his 13 year career. Has a SB ring

My eyes did. Watch the 2022 tape and then watch what he started doing in 2023 (start with his moonball deep ball against Alabama). This was a clear adjustment to Quinn's game to get something from the deep ball.

Not really. He spent 6 seasons in Washington and started games in multiple seasons there.

Bijan, Roschon, Brooks already all here.

Worthy, Whittington, Sanders, Helm already all here.

Jones, Majors, Conner all already here.

Sweat, Murphy, Broughton, Collins all already here.  Ford, Gbenda already here.  Barron, Taafe already here.  Sorrell already here.  Guilbeau committed prior to Ewers announcement best I can tell.  I’m guessing the local guys had an impact on Mukuba.

Maybe the Ol was impacted by his commitment.  Also impacted by Cristobal movement.  And NIL.  And paths to playing time.

PK has his own track record.  Sark has his own track record.  Under the table payments limited matters.  NiL is huge.  Yeah, I’m going oversell on the impact of 1 dude on the recruiting front.

That's the hit I was thinking of when people started talking about how easy Colt had it. James Harrison with the crown of the helmet right into Colt's face. Ugh.

Quinn will be a bridge QB. He will have helped lay the foundation of going from a mediocre team to an elite team. But not making it to a national title game will keep him out of the discussion with the all time greats. Manning will likely be the guy who can take the next step (hopefully).

This.  Similar feelings about Quinn as I have about Simms.  The best thing he did was commit to UT.  Similar effects.  Similar feelings of disappointment and that he should have been better.  Frustrating moments of failure, but overall was really damned good.

Quinn's legacy at Texas is fine. He's one of the best QBs to ever play on the 40 acres.

#3 in passing yards
#3 in passing TDs
#4 in total offense
#4 in QB wins

Big 12 champ
SEC runner up

Back to back CFP semifinals appearances

4th & 13

2-1 against OU
1-0 against aggy
Won in College Station, Tuscaloosa, Fayetteville and Ann Arbor

He may be surpassed in the years to come with Sark's QB whisper reputation, but right now, he's top 4 QB at Texas (Colt, VY, Sam, Quinn) by the numbers.  He did all that in 35 games started, well behind Colt (53) and Sam (43)

If Quinn doesn’t make starter status in the league and ends up with a career like Colt, then that’s a pretty great way to go.

Money and no head injuries? I'd take it.

We've had this discussion.  I think Street gets a nod because 20-0 and a national title, but his raw numbers are nothing like those of the other 4 guys.  Of course, different era, which should be adjusted for.

Didn’t realize the start differential was that drastic. That makes everything even more impressive and the idiots more idioter.

Simms was 26-6 as a starter and lost a defacto semifinal game.  the problem for Simms is he was basically the reason for the loss. IMO, VY/Colt then Quinn, Simms, then Major/Sam/James Brown in any order you'd like.  I like Sam but he had unfortunate timing.

be nice if Manning passes all of them.

Akers/McWilliams era is tough on QB's since it was still basically a running offense for Texas then

He had a phenomenal career here. All time Longhorn.

Yep. Had to include that he did all of that in 3 years with way fewer starts. Makes it much more impressive

Holy shit, it seems amazing we got 43 starts out of Sam. If someone and asked me to guess I would have said Ewers surely played at least 10 more games. Also makes me feel old.

Dude never steps up in the pocket or moves at all so it’s almost impossible to block for. The end goes speed rush around the outside every time because there’s no threat of Quinn taking that wide open running lane inside of him.

Sure. Maybe he just started throwing the moon balls for kicks with absolutely no input from our coaches. That tracks.

Someone should’ve told Cam this so he’d know how to block it since they do it “every time”. Should’ve got on the phone bro.
