Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins

Featured Replies

Look, we are better than A&M, but they have talent on the D-Line and the atmosphere is going to be bonkers .

Would love an 11am business trip. Those dorks will be up past midnight burning campfires and fucking sheep.

Don’t forget the jizzing. They will be filling jars for days prior to the game.

I feel like not long ago beck and nussemeier were used as examples of what Quinn should be doing in the pocket.

they lead the sec in interceptions. Solid.

Why is it so wrong to point out that Ewers had a couple bad throws?  I don't think anyone here was suggesting benching Ewers.  He absolutely gives us the best chance to win a title this year, but he's not perfect.  There were a few throws today he should have made but didn't.  He still sees the deep opportunities a 1/2 second later than he should. They still won going away and overall he played well.  But the margin for error won't be there come late December and early January.  He needs to hit those when he has the chance because there won't be a whole lot of them against well coached and talented teams.

the crosser was a miss, but the pass Moore dropped can’t be counted as anything other than a drop.

100 % that is on Moore.

No, I'm talking about the pass that Ewers underthrew by 5 yards to a wide open Moore, who had to turn around while hitting the breaks and avoiding the DB. That's 3000% on Ewers because he took a walk-in TD and made it a contested catch. Yes, please keep underthrowing wide open WRs and see how it works out.

This is correct. When Sarkisian schemes up a fast WR 10 yards behind the DB, he wants the QB to throw the ball in front of the WR not 5 yards behind him. I mean the WRs and RBs make him look good a lot with their elite athleticism and ability to make people miss in space. The least he could do is deliver a good ball when they are wide fucking open.

It hit him in the hands. And then again in the chest. It was uncontested. No elevation needed. Everything else doesn’t matter, it was a shitty drop.

The dude slightly slowed down and dropped it 100% through his hands with zero interference.

Was a perfect throw? No, was a solid enough throw for a 50 yard gain and maybe a touchdown, yes.

The drop is 80-100% on Moore.

I think the disconnect here is a lot of the people that critique him a ton are viewing him as a perfect recruit and 1st round draft pick. That ship sailed man. He may believe that still and that’s great. The reality is he has been injured 45 times, his elite to average switch toggles way to easy, and he’s not very fast. He’s a shell of that perfect recruit now and that’s still good enough to get us some hardware. IMO.

4000% on Moore

The drop is 100% on Moore.  Bringing the DB back into the play and forcing the WR to adjust to a ball that he should have been running under is on Ewers.  From Moore's perspective, it should have been a big play.  From Ewer's perspective, it should have been a walk in touchdown.

Jesus Christ, it was maybe 2 feet short, not 5 yards.  Have you ever watched football in your life?

I’m sure he’s said in here that Ewers needing a perfect pocket to complete passes is a problem, this is the WR equivalent of that.

To be fair, watching the nfl does throw people off pretty bad. The wr’s in the nfl are so good that most fans don’t even realize how often the qb messes up the throw or doesn’t get it close and those guys adjust to make the play. Ohio state and Oklahoma have recruited a ton of those guys who make the qb look better than he is over the years. The evidence is in the nfl currently. Hell those bama wr’s made Mac jones look like a first rounder lol.

I suppose that's possible, but in my junior varsity world I think a ball that hits a reciever in the hands but doesn't result in a completion is the fault of the receiver.

I’m just hoping he somehow gets the pocket presence we saw against Michigan back.

He never steps into the pocket and have to find the next read and make a play. It’s either perfectly there and open or he stands still and gets sacked.

Arch is still green but he already has a nice feel for the pressure and while his tendancy to just run it is a little higher than anyone wants, it’s still a step in the right direction. He will eventually use his legs to extend plays and find guys downfield.

2 more should be tune up games to get the offense absolutely purring before we have to go to aggy land

The drop can 100% be on Moore and still be a shitty throw. Holy fuck

The second pass to Moore that he dropped was a perfect pass and the throw should have been like that on the first pass Moore dropped.

This is a far cry from shit down his leg Quinn from Georgia.

Right. And also 100% Moores fault it was a drop. I’m agreeing with you. Htown thinks it’s all on Ewers.

and if he leads it is a TD. I just laugh that you fatasses think it's easy to track the ball, turn around while slowing to a complete stop, avoid the DB and catch the ball. You guys would shit your pants more times than not. I think the Texas WRs should just keep running their routes and watch the ball fall 15 yards behind where they expect to be placed, so maybe you fucking tards would realize how bad of that throw actually was.

Because it is. you actually thing Sarkisian wants the ball 5 yards behind his wide fucking open WR? You think Sarkisian is going to watch the tape and say to Quinn, "Good ball."

Not really sure how this is relevant to what I posted, maybe try to sleep it off pal.

I also would probably drop that pass yea. I’m not paid a lot of money to catch passes that hit me directly in the fucking hands. Also, I’m pretty hot and not fat thanks.

Of course he’ll have margin of error. Our defense will give him many opportunities to throw his duck ball.
the thing is 99 percent of ncaa QBs throw shitty deep balls, we just say our qb sucks and is the only one.
After watching today’s QBs I’d say Quinn’s deep ball is average not shitty after all.  But being happy with our qb is not a thing.

If receiver started doing that he might not be playing much and probably wouldn’t be very popular in room.

Are we claiming that a ball a WR has to make adjustments on is a bad throw?

QBs can't drop dimes every damn pass. None of them can. And a WR making adjustments in order to catch a ball... That's their damn job.

I’m watching the game for the first time… on your point about not being a pussy today, on his pass to Gunnar to go up 14… doesn’t he step up in the pocket and take a hit?  I was like, whoa, right on.  The coverage I have is inconclusive.

ETA: great phrase: “Quinn had a fantastic game that wasn’t perfect.”

It wasn't a perfect throw, but in my days as a receiver, it was what we'd consider catchable. Maybe 25% Ewers fault and 75% the receivers. But when it's 50% or more on the receiver, he gets the blame no matter how geometrically disorienting that 25% was. Cuz it's not exactly a walk in the park to throw the ball either.

That said, Quin could use some improvement in consistency on deep throws.

Quinn really played well after the two poor throws to Moore, he was attacking the middle of the field a lot more, which is where the yards are when you play the horizontal game.

Fayetteville is going to be loud and nasty.  Hopefully, Ewers and the OL can can do what they did today.

The greener grass posts are classics. Wish we had an archive somewhere. If only we had Beck or Nussmeyer spinnin' it and Dave Aranda or Sonny Dykes on the headset...

Quinn was very good in this game. This was a great environment for him. There was little pressure. WRs were running wide ass open all game. Quinn was able to hit his first read the vast majority of the time. Quinn is a 1st read QB. When Sark is dealing and Quinn has simple reads, he has always been one of the best passers in the country. Great confidence builder for Quinn and the offense. It’s a step in the right direction. Didn’t give us much evidence of how he will play when a defense muddies up his reads and takes away his #1 or how he will handle pressure.

Seriously?

Do you remember this stat line?  20-34 for 388 yards, 5 TDs and no picks.  And that was against a team that won 10 games. A game in which people bitched about the Oline (it was solid except for 1, maybe 2 drives).  That was from one of those shitty QBs.  It’s highlighted to show you how conducive this offense can be to compiling QB stats.

QB is the most difficult position in sports.  It’s also the one most highly dependent on your teammates.

When Sark is good, he makes it very easy.  He was good yesterday.

Far too little credit has been given to the non-QB guys the past two years.  That’s not necessarily uncommon, but it sure as hell is understated as to how capable his offensive teammates were and are.  And when on, Sark has more, QB friendly play calls than any Texas play caller I’ve seen.  These guys don’t simply get drafted because their QB makes them look good.  The offensive skill talent that we’ve had the  past 3 years is off the charts relative to the entire history of Texas football.

The defense that people liked to bitch about is now top 10 for 3 years running.  In each of those years from an OFEI/DFEI perspective, the defense is higher rated than the offense.  We’re  what 4-0 the past two years without Ewers starting with three of those being 30 plus point victories.

I’m still on the side of we will win it all this year.  He will do his part.  Just remember when you lift him up and kick others aside that the situations were in no way equivalent.

It’s a bit more complex than that. If a WR is 8-10 yards behind a DB and he has to slow down and turn around to make the catch, it’s not a good throw. It’s good enough. Effective throw and good throw are not always the same. Good throw requires minimal adjustment from a WR. A great throw requires no adjustment.

Rewatched the game. Quinn seems like he has some internal clock that's applying unneeded pressure on him constantly.

There was a few times where he threw the ball with good protection way too early with receivers open. It seems like whatever this internal clock he's got is a lot of the reason his off schedule stuff look like he's panicked.

I think the obvious is his off schedule game is just not where it needs to be from a confidence perspective,  it he's back completely healthy and didn't do weird stuff to avoid contact this game.

Yes. He continues to struggle with pocket poise a bit. Sometimes he gets rid of it too early. Sometimes it seems like he passes up an open receiver and then throws it too late after the internal clock should have gone off. Just a bit weird timing. When he’s not pressured, he’s pretty good at finding the open receiver, obviously.

I suggest a Five Point Plan to settle this disagreement once and for all.

1. We watch the Texas vs. Florida game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

2. We watch the Texas vs. Arkansas game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

3. We watch the Texas vs. Kentucky game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

4. We watch the Texas vs. Aggy game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

5. We watch the next Texas game of the season (Bowl game, SEC Championship, or First round playoff). Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss -30 if this is a bowl game +10 if it's the SEC championship.

Then we find the average of these five sums. This gives us his measure on the ULTIMATE SCALE OF PUSSYTUDE/BOSSNESS (working title...in process)

0-65.0 : THE ULTIMATE PUSSY : Sorry Quinn, you are officially and forever a Huge Pussy

65-75 : PRETTY MUCH A PUSSY : Quinn, you had so much potential but you ended up playing like a Pussy for us. There might be hope for you in the future though.

75-85 : KIND OF A PUSSY : Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro.

85-95 : MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY : Quinn did enough to win, but could he have done more? (I admit if we end up here the argument will go on. I'll take my chances)

95-100 : DEFINITELY NOT A PUSSY : You can say what you want about Quinn Ewers, but he ain't no pussy.

100+ : DUDE IS A BOSS : It turns out you guys have just been haters the whole time. Potential Longhorn Legend.

(This is all completely arbitrary and not based on any kind of science or intelligence)

May the testes be with you, Quinn.

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0 (QBR 90.0 +10 for win)

There is still a lot of football to be played, but on pace to be a BOSS 🤘
