Sorry, bad form on my part combining two completely separate thoughts.  No he’s no troll.

yup. election day has turned into election month because of all the knuckleheads with firearms standing 12’ away from citizens trying to vote, and then other citizens trying to count those votes.

biden won in a blowout. would’ve been called within 24 hours pre-trump.

I mean, it still should have been.  I don't know why the networks waited so long on PA.  It was obvious within 24 hours.

You're doing a shitty jordan peterson impression where you present anecdotes that could support only a single position, and then when called on that position, feign victimhood and having words unfairly put in your mouth.

Congratulations, you're intellectually dishonest!

Also, if you're going to use a trumpy nickname for me, at least use the traditional "captainantifa" as your other fascist buddies do. I'm more than happy to be labeled as someone who is anti-fascism, even moreso if it gets your pearls aclutch

Yeah, I created that moniker. It’s kind of what I do, a sort of gift I suppose. Anyway, I’ll bow out today because I feel emotions will be running very high today. Good luck to you guys.

What, don't you want to stay around and cheer on your team as they intimidate black voters? It's the culmination of decades of republican strategery!!

Don't leave during your moment of ultimate triumph! Stick around and take credit for all the good the GOP is doing to democracy, since you love to defend them so much and attack those evil SOCIALIST libz

Maj. Gamaliel Turner was more than upset. Assigned by the Pentagon to the Naval base at Port Hueneme, California, Turner had called his hometown registrar in Columbus, Georgia, to find out about his missing absentee ballot.

The soldier’s ballot wasn’t missing. They hadn’t sent the ballot because, he was told, “Mr. Turner, you have been challenged.”

Quote

The man who challenged Turner successfully blocked 4,000 other voters in Columbus. So far, the 159 counties in Georgia have sent the Palast Investigative Fund a breathtaking 149,168 challenges filed against voters.

Quote

Governor Kemp’s vigilante voter law does provide targeted voters a way to challenge the challenge. The voter can request a court-like hearing at their county registrar’s office where they can prove their citizenship and address. They are guilty until they prove themselves innocent of what is, after all, a felony crime.

Turner, stationed in California, said he replied to the Muscogee County (Columbus) bureaucrat, “So you’re telling me, 2600 miles away… that if I want to vote that all I have to do is show up and prove that as an American citizen that I have the right to vote? AGAIN? You talk to fools like that! I’m not a fool!”

Quote

I met with another vigilante, Pam Reardon, who was running for Vice Chair of the state Republican Party. Reardon personally challenged an astounding 32,000 voters. She admitted she never met a single one nor called any. She defended herself by saying, “I did not speak to the 32,000 people.” True, but she did challenge their right to vote.

Really? You don't understand why it wasn't called earlier? Why we had to wait for a handful of those idiotic lawsuits to run their course first? Why networks had to be extra super, duper careful to not appear to be "in on the steal"?

As always, we have to appease the dumbest (and most violent) among us.

Do we all understand that the networks' calls mean nothing. They were abused starting in 2000 when they had to change their call in FL so I don't blame them for waiting until it's practically impossible for a candidate to win.

There is also too much given to the concession from one candidate. It means zero. The count still occurs and in theory you can concede and still win.

The GOP is gleefully hoping the economy and everything else melts down, and working towards that goal, because it’s been seized by chaos gremlins who view anger and instability as a route to unchecked power.

There’s the rub. Win or lose, Repubs will fuck around with the debt ceiling and ignorantly shatter confidence in the USD as the most favored reserve currency.  That becomes the abyss for the US as we know it.

Washpark gets it.

They are so intent on denying anyone else from having power over the castle, they are happy to reign over the rubble.  It's insane stupidity, but bottom line, the GQP motto is "if we can't have the Republic, NOBODY can."

So let's get on with it.  Bring on your wrecking ball and dynamite, let's get it over with.

I have a feeling today will be a typical midterm.

Also, the Democrats can completely eliminate the debt ceiling issue during the lame duck session if they want to.

wow.  I read the article then clicked on the link in the article to see who was on the list.

search by last name:  jackson.

result?  70 pages of people with that last name have been challenged.   there is going to be an INCREDIBLE amount of missing votes this election.  if kemp and walker don't win by 5+ points each i'll be shocked.

When that law passed, smarter Democrats would have immediately built a movement to challenge any and all white Georgia voters, especially in the NW part of the state.

But, Democrats have the tactical instincts of my chihuahua.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that they could allow that process to be a largely one way street.

that mother fucker sees this like a team sport.  that's not what this is at all. I'm with brisket, bring it on... oh wait, first they came for the "homos, fags and queers" as one of my gay male friends would say.  but then my wife would say, "girl, I've been having illegal/criminal sex my whole adult life, ain't nothing going to stop me now."

so I guess brisket is right, bring it on, let's party like it's 1999 and get fucked.

Not until 2025 at the earliest.

More flavor, please.  Congress can raise it whenver it's reached, correct?  Doesn't seem like there's a calendar attached.  I don't know about reductions, but it sure seems Republicans are perfectly happy to fuck around and find out, holding our country hostage.  Buying a couple more years, if in fact 2025 is a thing, would seem prudent.

Not sure, but I assume it's because the President has to sign.

That must be it.  He wouldn't sign a reduction.  That said, would that constitute a veto, and thus subject to override?

I need to go back and review my Schoolhouse Rock.

They really do. They had the perfect opportunity to spend the last two years explaining to the American public how all this economic downturn really is on Trump’s policies. They could have spent the better part of the last two years explaining how the yield curve inverted in 2019 (ie pre-pandemic) due to Trump’s trade war and tariffs and all that goofy shit that was known at the time to court a recession (as yield curve inversions always do) in 2-3 years time. They knew all of this and didn’t even bother explaining to potential voters that “no, this pre-dates Biden’s presidency, it pre-dates his announced candidacy and it in fact pre-dates the entire pandemic.” It’s really breathtaking how horribly they fucked this up and put everything on Dobbs and January 6th to carry them through today. They had so many more bullets in that gun and figured firing two  would suffice.

EDIT: and even if the mother of all miracles does happen and the Democrats manage to hold both chambers, two things:

1. it should never have been that close

2. they do not have the sense to put it to use. If they do retain both and somehow grow their senate lead by two, the first order of business on day damn one must be to kill the filibuster and convince Biden to unpack the court. Even if the mother of all miracles happens, I seriously doubt that will happen.

I'm not gonna watch any returns tonight (well, I actually want to see some local stuff, so I'll pull up those results).  As a society, enough of us have decided that we absolutely, 100% MUST try out some flavor of anti-democratic fascism/authoritarianism, so fuck it, let's get it on.  Christian nationalism.  Xenophobia.  Making voting harder than getting in to Harvard.  Let's just drink the fucking poison and get it over with.

We're in for a LONG stretch of puking our guts out and being miserable (longer than it needs to be, because many years will be taken up by those voters proclaiming "see, the puking means it's working!").  Lots of people are going to suffer.  And yes, die.  But we are dead-set on giving this a go, so let's give it a go.

Then, a generation from now, we'll be surrounded by the same people who voted for that horrible path, and none of them will admit that they really wanted it.  It was always someone ELSE who voted for it, they were actually in favor of having a functioning democracy the whole time.  They'll lie.  Like they always have done, and always will done.

But tonight, I'm gonna catch up on Andor episodes, maybe an episode of What We Do in the Shadows.

Now this? This is what I can get behind!

McCarthy already has plans:

The GOP will force the Dems to cut SS and Medicare to get the debt ceiling raised and then the GOP gets to blame the Dems for cutting SS and Medicare.  The olds will eat it up.
