Top 10 Albums of 2022

Post your top ten for 2022.

Here are mine in no particular order...

Crows - Beware Believers - Calling them a punk band is a disservice since they are so much more with diverse influences ranging from The Damned to Bowie to Soundgarden. They killed it at SXSW.

Black Doldrums - Dead Awake - Post punk, post new wave band from London.  Saw them at pub back in June.  I can't recommend this album enough.

Billy Howerdel - What Normal Was - Guitarist from A Perfect Circle releases his solo album and it's mostly influenced by Depeche Mode.  Really good stuff.

Author & Punisher - Krüller - I first heard of A&P when he opened for Tool.  He's a mechanical engineer that builds his own instruments to make true industrial music.  This album is his most accessible and features several members of Tool on a few songs.

The Soft Moon - Exister - A traditional industrial musician highly influenced by the 80s-90s Wax Trax line up.

3rd Secret - Self Titled - Sorry, maybe I'm nostalgic for the early 90s grunge scene but I loved this album.

Lizzo - Special - Living in a house with all women, I get to listen to Lizzo whether I want to or not.  I must say that the line "It's bad bitch o'clock, it's thicc thirty." is one of the great opening lines of a song.

Florence + the Machine - Dance Fever - The first two albums are two of my favorites of all time and I've been luke warm on releases since then.  However, this album is strong beginning to end.  Dream Girl Evil gets back to her roots.

Breanna Barbara - Nothin' But Time - First saw her perform when she was the touring vocalist for Tricky a few years ago.  This album wears psychedelia on its sleeve and is worth a listen.

The Black Angels - Wilderness of Mirrors - The first half of this album is as good as anything they've done. It may go on a bit too long, but it's a great listen all the way through.

I actually prefer the 2nd half of the album, feels like they're at least trying to explore new ideas with the songs...whereas the first half definitely fits their tried and true formula.

Viagra Boys- Cave World: Satirical Swedish rock with infectious grooves and a good sense of humor. Half of these songs would not be out of place on a Ween album.

Ghost- Impera: Another Swedish rock album. 80's arena rock with a nod to the devil. hail satan!

King Hannah- I'm not sorry, I was just being me: Atmospheric, slow building, trip hop sounding British rock/folk duo.

Spoon- Lucifer on the Sofa: An excellent Spoon album that sounds exactly like a great Spoon album.

Billy Howerdel- What Normal Was: Depeche Mode/Cure influenced solo album from the APC guitarist.

Rickshaw Billies Burger Partrol- Doom Wop: Short and concise rock songs that deliver a punch. Best live show in Austin.

Black Angels- Wilderness of Mirrors: Still bringing the psych rock formula and occasionally branching out into new territory.

Hooveriii- A Round Of Applause: slightly jammy psych rock

Paul Cauthen - Country Coming Down

Charley Crockett - The Man from Waco

Shane Smith and the Saints if they release their new album in the next month

Paul Cauthen almost made my list.  "Fuck You Money" was probably my favorite song of the year.

I always appreciate the contributors to threads like this one.

Terrestrial radio is long dead, and on a lot of modern platforms (bloggers/reviewers, streaming playlists), I have a hard time finding my personal "signal" above the noise.

I'll be checking these out.  Thanks to all of you.
