The official 2024 GOP Presidential Candidate Clown Car thread!

horn4life

Recommended Posts

Well since we now officially have two candidates in former President Trump, and  former Trump convert Nikki Haley, officially in the race the GOP really needs their own Presidential  Candidate thread.  You know that Mike Pence is in... because God told him to run.  You know that Mike Pompeo is in because he lost weight and never answered questions under oath like Hilary Clinton did for hours. You know Ted Cruz is in simply because he has shown himself to be a man completely without shame, and extra low T when defending his wife's honor.

Here is an image of who CNN thinks is looking at joining the race.  But those first two spots in the clown car are now confirmed.  DeSantis is in obviously.  I don't know about Governor Abbott, if you were him would you want the national media laser focused on his response to the two biggest crisis he has faced in Uvalde and the power outage. In both cases he led with lies...  Tim Scott will likely toss his hat in, just to let Nikki Haley know she ain't that special.  Youngkin and Sununu could be decent candidates, but they are not nutty enough for the main stream GOP and likely one or both will keep their dry. Larry Hogan falls into this same category along with Asa Huchinson.  I think Chris Christi is old news, but he might hop in just to fuck with Trump. Krist Noem might run, only because she is so vacuous that he probably believes she is just what America needs.  Will Hurd? I seriously doubt it, but he might as a protest and just to raise his profile for the future.

Liz Cheney - I would almost like her to run just to try and put a more serious percentage number on the dwindling sanity and reason within the GOP.  She is the most interesting to me, as like Trump she might actually be able to garner an unshakable core percentage that while unable to achieve victory might put her a position for a real run in 2028.

Tulsi Gabbard?  She always seems to run every cycle, even though she has no chance. She could be a VP candidate for Trump, which is where this all inevitably ends up. Desantis needs a clear field to have a chance, it has to be 1v1 with Trump, otherwise the vote gets split too much. All these other challengers are doing Trump a favor, even the ones like Pence and Cheney. The voters they take are the ones that would choose the lesser of two evils if given the chance, but when there are 15 lesser evils, it all boils down to Trump getting the largest % of the vote.

Welcome to the Cheesedick Factory, can I start you off with some appetizers?

She is pro-democracy at least, which is more than the others can say.  But I'm not expecting some revelation from the R voters.  She got kicked out of the party for fuck's sake.

I can make room for pro-democracy republicans who aren’t advocating for the violent over throw of our government or nazi style eradication or exclusion of queer people. It’s a low bar but old school I just don’t like you and won’t do you any favors sounds like a dreamy Republican.

Yes, he will be.  The nomination will be mathematically settled when Ambassador Haley concedes to Trump in a hotel.  Like one where an Ambassador would stay.  Like in California.  Maybe in a place where people who like to overeat late might be found.  Just a thought.

I disagreed with almost all of McCain's positions.  But at least I could respect him as a decent human being.  And even when I thought he was wrong, at least I knew he was doing what he thought was best and that he truly cared about this country.

No one in that picture gives a fuck about anyone but themselves.

This. It’s not anymore complicated than this. In the GQP, there are only two candidates: Trump, and Not Trump. If it was Trump vs a single, strong opponent, then it might be a race. But it won’t be. Trump doesn’t even have to campaign to waltz to the nomination.

After seeing Nikki Haley basically say, "all my policies are the same as Donald Trump" and I agree with everything he says. Why is she running?  To raise her profile for 2028? To be Trump's VP?

I honestly don't understand announcing and then basically saying Donald Trump and I are exactly alike!  Wouldn't you think she would have something to differentiate herself from the only other challenger in the race? I mean something right?

And this is Dotard we're talking about. "Policies". Does this mean she wants to fuck Ivanka too and ok now I'm listening.

add another clown to the queue

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/21/us/politics/vivek-ramaswamy-presidential-candidate-2024.html

I read the following quote from Bill Ackman

Quote

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman appeared to throw his support behind Ramaswamy last week.

“I am going to make a bold and early call. [Vivek Ramaswamy] will run for POTUS and win. I think the country is ready for his message,” Ackman tweeted.

“He is a very talented and successful entrepreneur who understands business, economics, health care, politics, history and geopolitics. You won’t likely agree with all of his views, but you will respect his candor, acumen, discipline and energy. One to watch,” he added.

Lulz, Bill. He should have changed his name first, because there aint no way in hell Billy Joe Guntard is gonna vote for a dude named Vivek Ramaswamy over his favorite diapered racist. Just aint gonna happen.

Well I guess I should add Vivek's pic to the clown car.  I guess the greatest thing about the GOP 2024 Clown Car... right now it's more diverse than ANY group ever elected by Republicans!  Donald is saying AWESOME!  The more clowns I can get into the car, the more likely the most dangerous clown can become President again.

Dems and moderate Republicans need to find and fund a viable nut job to outflank Trump in the GOP primary.  Then they need to coalesce around a moderate candidate (DeSantis ain’t it).  If they don’t get somebody to draw some of the crazies away from Trump then he has already won.

That is entirely possible in a state like mine that allows people who aren't registered as GOP to vote in the primary.  But how common is that?  Don't most state require that you're registered in the party whose primary you're voting for?

I’m not talking about voting.  I’m mostly talking about funding.  Find some kind of Hulk Hogan crossed with David Duke crossed with Chris Kyle crossed with Elon Musk type dude and give him enough money to take 10% of Trumps primary votes from the far right.  Then, if you have the right moderate candidate you have an actual chance.

Charlie Baker, Larry Hogan, or Chris Sununu.

Sununu’s a phony. Fuck that guy. Hogan has no shot. Can’t say I’m all that familiar with Charlie Baker. The guy who’s taking over as head of the NCAA? Yeah, that ain’t happening.

Any of them who run are going to be running on the culture wars. There’s no room for common sense in that party anymore. I don’t trust any of them.

I wasn’t making a prediction.  I agree the GOP is fucked.  It’s Trump’s/Putin’s party.

I’ve heard predictions that Hogan might run. And it’s true that he’s a moderate. But I don’t trust him either. I don’t trust any of them. I figure if Hogan runs then the word “woke” is going to come out of his mouth because that’s the party line now. What the GOP needs isn’t a moderate voice. What they need are a few more ass kickings so the party is forced to rid itself of the extremists, of the election deniers and conspiracy theorists, of all the batshit crazy wingnuts who’ve taken over.

There is no curing the GQP. Ever. It is what it is, and it’s terminal. There is only killing it left to do. You think it’s ugly now….just wait till it becomes truly existential for the party of actual fucking insanity.

John Bolton or Liz Cheney or Romney running would be about more than being the nominee. If this is just a prediction thread, then it's not going to mean much.

@horn4life writes: Liz Cheney - I would almost like her to run just to try and put a more serious percentage number on the dwindling sanity and reason within the GOP.

This is why I will likely pay more attention to the primary campaigns and debates than I normally do. We will see open debate about what the GOP is in its components and what finally wins out.

The national MAGA plurality surely has the upper hand, but I want to see if more traditional GOPs who can't get past the decades of hate-engine propaganda develop a strong tie to one of the three mentioned above. If they do, and can stomach the eventual MAGA winner enough to vote against the interests of the republic, I think we get the refined results of where all GOPs stand.

I never predict outcomes because my record probably falls short of a monkey throwing darts at the list of names. The process is interesting, and this season's process may be historic.
