Is it possible to print your own money

This prompts a question.  Where did Dorothy get that handbasket she was carrying throughout Oz?  Her house gets tossed around by a tornado, comes crashing down in Munchkinland, and she thinks to grab a basket when she walks out the door?  Not really believable.

Clearly she got it from the banksters, and the Bilderberg group, and the Reptilians, who all work in concert out of the last remaining Blockbuster video store to foment and foist their sinister schemes upon the otherwise free people of planet Earth.  Duh.  DO THE RESEARCH.

She took it with her when she was running away and then she met the traveling salesman who convinced her to turn around and go home. It never left her wrist while she was trying to get in the storm cellar and later the house when she was hit on the head. It's believable because you never leave your purse in the shopping cart and you never know when you might need to bop some flying monkey or a cowardly lion on the head. Plus, Toto fit inside when necessary.

There you go, using logic.  Haven't you seen the rest of the thread?  Logic has no home here.

The initial discussion was around money and a lot of people aren't logical about financial issues. But @Jerry Callo's question was regarding an accessory and I think logic is especially applicable in that regard, how else is one to justify spending money on a very very sweet Omega wristwatch when a twenty dollar Casio will suffice? Likewise with a handbasket or purse. Timepieces and bags are useful items regardless of whether one is heading to hell or heaven or Kansas. Might as well look swank while doing it, amirite?

Yes, you are right.

@David Busters - I'm on my phone right now, so I'm not going to compose a long form response for you, but your thread touches on issues that I hold dear, so for now I'm going to offer you a link to a cautionary tale.  The link does not encompass the whole story, but provides enough information for anyone with a rudimentary level of Google-Fu to chase down rabbit holes:

Yes but it’s not going to look like money, nobody would mistake it for that. So it is not counterfeit. And if there is a contract I can pay a person whatever he will accept as payment. 1099

Can I pay for a Coke with Euros, yes if you accept

I believe you are looking for the wampum thread.

This coin, showing Trump raising his hand in preparation of his famous “two-dick-jack-off” dance move, is NOT actually legal tender.  Don’t be fooled folks.

That was the great thing about the 70s and 80s. The antisocial psychopaths back then didn't spin up electrons of scammy crypto, no, they minted beautiful silver dollar lookalikes, with portraits of sailing ships and quotes from the Constitution in pseudo-period calligraphy. And decades later, you can still get money for them.

i mean this isn't even really off topic since that story is supposedly about the gold standard and shit

of course... farmers back then knew the gold standard was treacherous as shit

Farmers these days know that the real money is in stashing a Russian tank in one of your barns.

Beg to differ. IMO one of the best attributes of Shaggy/Surly has always been not the original thought but the unique responses to that thought and in those I have found much amusement. And amusement is a not unworthy quality of a message board. (Note: I seldom post in the football forum because that is much more serious bidness).

This thread reminds me of a story I once read where the R&B singer Usher (or Urshur, as he is known in the community), created his own Usher bucks and would use them to tip and make it rain in strip clubs, the utter dismay of literally everyone and especially the hired dancers. Hilarious and petty and overall stupid.

What if I own a casino, or even a poker room, and I don’t want people to feel like they are losing something of actual value when they lose?  Can I make them exchange actual currency for plastic or metal tokens that represent a value, and have them game using these things?  Then exchange them back into real money when they are done?

i mean, it’s easier for someone to risk a small piece of plastic with 10,000 embossed on it than a wrapped stack of 100 dollar bills.

Correct. Now imagine the thread a year from now titled “so I printed my own money”. Now THAT thread would have been entertaining.

Just to be super-duper legal, it might be easier to print your own money if you first start your own country.

But I mean a country that you don't have to physically live in, something more in line with those people who sell one foot square Lordships in Scotland, or that Name a Star thing. Maybe a bigger version of Pet Rocks. If you're in Texas I bet one of those extra-judicial business organizations on the Mexican side of the border would be open to new money-making opportunities like renting out square meter plots of land for fantasy countries. Just don't try to pay the rent in your own currency.

Do they speak Esperanto in that country?

This thread might be funny to some, but to those of us who work in public facing banking positions we have to deal with this bullshit...every...single...day. I've thought about asking to be demoted to a teller as then you can just tell them you need to help the next person, but in an office setting they just keep going on and on and your secretary thinks it's hilarious. Oh, and these are always retired white men between the ages of 60 and 75. They're never employed, they're never women, they're never another ethnicity, and they're never younger or older than that.

I don’t work in banking, but investments and insurance.  I have to deal with this shit every day as well. Every call I have with a regular client or a new prospect is the same shit.  I’m doing 5x the work for the same shit I was 8 months ago.   It fucking sucks.
