FL Principal resigns after parents complain about pornographic Michelangelo statue

Everyone has lost their collective minds. So showing 6th graders a picture of the Michelangelo statue needs parental approval? Good thing we don't require parental approval for kids to get shot at school, amirite?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — The line between art and pornography is at the center of an education dispute after a Tallahassee charter school principal resigned, following accusations that middle school students were shown inappropriate adult content.

At issue? Students in the school were shown images of a Renaissance period sculpture, the “David,” leading to complaints that the children were shown pornographic material.

Principal Hope Carrasquilla, according to the Democrat, resigned Monday after the school board chair told her to resign or be fired. Chair Barney Bishop confirmed to the Democrat that he gave Carrasquilla that ultimatum, but would not explain why due to “advice” from the school’s attorney. Parents were informed by email on Monday.

According to further reporting on the topic by the Huffington Post, the issue, at least in part, was that a protocol to inform parents in advance of showing similar types of artwork was not sent out to sixth-grade parents before the lesson, due to “miscommunications.”

Bishop told the Tallahassee Democrat that the notification policy at Tallahassee Classical was relatively recent, and required a parental notification two weeks before “potentially controversial” materials are shown.

It has been offered at auction at $25mm making it the most expensive Drag Show in human history.

At some point, can some of y'all admit that yes, it could possibly be offensive to some people but it's a 500 year old work of art that has withstood the test of time across generations and cultures while your local preacher has just started face-fucking kids last month?

Honestly surprised it’s not worth more.  I mean that’s a large amount of money, but it’s also a piece most of the world (not Fla schoolchildren) instantly recognize.

to your point, I joke and jest more than most Southerners about spending too much time and money on "studying" art, and I fairly cultured guy.  But I mean, come the fuck on (not you, but the South in general)...Michaelangelo is getting lumped in with the rest of "porn culture"  This is fucking insane.  I mean, we're just racing to the bottom at this point.

It was just an amount from a cursory google search.  works of art like that are hard to price since there's never really ever been active market for them given their historical significance.

Speaking of that.  Just remember this family-values Texans:

-Private school clergy taking kids to see 'the David' by Michelangelo...................queer groomers trying to skew our children.

-Same private school clergy having your kids stay after school for 'extra tutoring' and instead raping them?  Bringing christianity back into the classroom as our founding fathers intended.

I can see both sides.  One, priceless piece of world history.  But, do you really want a huge statue of some guy big dicking you every time you walk thru the room?

Fair point, some guy big dicking me every time I walk thru a room would be intimidating.  That's why I keep a photo of your 2" erect cock around, gives me the confidence surge I need to get through the day.

It's silly that someone was fired/resigned over this, but I would think that a principal would be aware of the shitstorm that could occur if he showed a picture of the statue.

Of all the violence and gore on TV and in movies, of all the school shootings and kids dying, we are worried about a picture of Michelangelo. Let that sink in.

These are people who send out Christmas cards of their whole family, down to kindergarteners, carrying guns.

But let a 12 year old find out that.....flaccid penises are a thing that exists, well, PROTECT THE CHILDREN!

It is a human body.  Just....standing there.  And it causes them to lose their mind.

We need a meteor.  Then a biblical flood.  Then another meteor, because you always double-tap.

All I know is a Warhol painting of Marilyn Monroe sold for about 200 megabills, so David has to top that.

Yeah, now that my 8yo is on devices more frequently (she doesn't have her own but uses the household iPad and sometimes mommy's phone), I get censoring social media and website/browser clicks.  That shit just mainlines itself in high-def straight into her brain.  But when it comes to drag shows, art museums, statutes, and hip hop concerts...it occurs to me that parents could possibly consider, just consider, 'protecting' their children...by simply...not going.  Just a thought.

Isn't it widely known that the statue of David is notable for how "small" he is downstairs?

Should have just had a marble sculpture of an AR-15. No greater work of art!

Godamnit Roethlisberger, it's all subjective.

I'm guessing this is only an issue with the potential Asian investors.

it's worth 10X that amount, easy.
It would easily be above a billion if not multiple billions. There are a handful of pieces of art known universally like David and Mona Lisa. If it actually became available for purchase there would be no shortage of billionaires or governments lining up to purchase it no matter the price.

Damn, who is that actress?  Smoking hot smokeshow.  And she may appreciate a tiny dick on a tiny man.  The Fargo meets Ireland accents crack me up though.

Very good show.  Yes, she's smoke and often in bikini.  More one liners than you can fill 10 brains with.  It's like Dirtbike was one of the lead writers or something.

No, it's not a picture of Michelangelo.  It's a statue of him crafted by David Davinci.

Speaking as one who has seen it up close, the reaction is simply this is the greatest sculpted work of art by man, period.  Maybe the best possible.  This is its power for education.   As an object lesson in excellence par excellence.
Of course, examining and processing excellence, as a learned experience, is not really in the interests of the right.  It really needs to be blotted out as a concept.   Replaced by most outrageous.

No wonder there's a massive teacher shortage. In addition to to dealing with dipshit kids, they have to deal with bullshit parents and legislatures. Seriously, that there are still teachers surprises the fuck out of me.

Tying in this weeks Denver High School shooting... the kid had a "student safety plan" put in place with him (these are things administrators and parents basically negotiate and teacher get to follow) where the kid would be patted down each day before school because of concerns.  While this is an extreme, these type of behavior modification plans are very common in schools now for teachers/admins to deal with on a student by student basis.

Every year my wife (an elementary school teacher) comments after her mandatory "mass casualty wound treatment training"... what am I doing. I don't want to know this. I shouldn't have to know this.

If you aren't watching Letterkenny, then you don't know what you're missing.

Saw this in season 1 and was instantly hooked on the humor:

Meanwhile, these parents aren't keeping a close eye on what their kids are doing on their phones or tablets.

The amount of unsolicited near soft porn available on tik tok is astounding. Smh at the parents who give their preteen a smartphone, let them download til tok and tell me they are “monitoring” their kid’s phone. Sure thing lady.

In reference to David, naked doesn’t have to equal lust. Most middle school kids look at it and snicker.

Their pacing and that cinematography are really well done.  I've read y'all talking about the show over the years and never gave it a shot.  But fuck it, I'm all in.  Gonna start it this weekend.  The final mic drop on "Florida State" has me fucking cracking up right now in public and thank god I have earphones in.

When you realize that you are dealing with the American Taliban -- you know, the Afghan version makes women dress like this, because even seeing more than a bare millimeter of skin is obscene:

GettyImages-1237802615.jpg?width=640&qua

....well, you understand how the American Taliban approaches things.  Even KNOWING that there might be different plumbing for different genders....well, that knowledge is bound to rile up LUST, and DEVILRY!*

But seriously.  This is literally one of the definitive works of art of the western world (you know, the hemisphere we're all about celebrating and shit).  There's not a damn thing sexualized about it, other than the inherent potential sexuality of the human form in all its forms.  I mean, shit, Armybrat used to pop wood for the Venus of Willendorf (to be fair, she was one sexualized, saucy wench):

3.8.5-14_figurine_willendorf_venus_wille

*Of course, being a man of a certain age, I admit that for a certain period of adolescence, it didn't take  much more than the right millimeter of exposed female skin to break my brain.  Sears catalog lingerie section much?
