The response of NYPD is going to be interesting here.

I’m guessing 80+% of them are hardcore MAGA. I’ll go ahead and predict this is going to test that force mightily.

Friend of my wife; her husband is a detective with NYPD.  He is actively looking to leave NYC, because he's full blown MAGA and wants to move to a red state.  Wife is willing to move, but would rather live in a blue state.

Don't get too excited about the "34 counts."  That most likely means that there are 34 specific documents or records that he is accused of falsifying.

In theory, a conviction on each count carries a separate sentence that could be "stacked" (run consecutively), to amount to some serious jail time.  In reality, the sentences will be served concurrently.

It does, however, give them basically 34 chances to prove him guilty.

You popped a viagra when you heard the news?  Sickie.  I took 9 different kind of drugs and called a Honduran trans attorney with a Belgian passport and all the bitcoin money one can store on a Qatari server hosted by a one-legged Dutch Boy with gout and a coke habit.

These are not smart people, but we knew that.  Good luck getting that kind of pension in Florida, Texas, or one of the true goober red states that depend on the federal government.

I believe the Police Benevolent Association endorsed Dotard in 2020 so yes I would be inclined to believe the number is pretty high for those that support him in the ranks.

If the dems had just ignored him, he probably wouldn't even get the Republican nomination.  So many people have moved on.

Fuck.

Hush money to a stripper?  That's the primary charge that's being talked about?  Not embezzlement of US funds, not treason, not any great crime empire? Business shenanigans related to an affair?   They better have more than that when they unseal the charges or this going to backfire.

Before you scream that that it can't backfire and he's done, remember back to 2015.  You probably through he would never win, and you probably didn't know anyone who voted for him.  But he did win.

If he beats these charges, this validates any kind bat-shit they're-out-to-get-me story that they want to make up.

If they don't get a solid and swift conviction, (and unless the charges have some bombshells, they probably won't get either) this is going to be a fucking shitshow.

I actually don’t think you are wrong at all.  Cloak room zeitgeist notwithstanding, for every 2-3 people that believe justice is finally being served, there will be 2-3 people who think this is a perversion of justice, and maybe 1-2 people who don’t have an already strongly formed opinion.  Where you live geographically and virtually will play a large role in how much of each you see and what you ultimately believe.

I just hope we have a televised trial, and that we can see unfiltered evidence from New York and an un-massaged Trump defense.  I don’t want a portrayal of courtroom events from anyone.  Let me be a juror at home and make up my own mind.

Remember that paying her off, itself, is not illegal.

I've reminded a couple of relatives of that on Facebook, basically "blindly" jumping into their discussions and saying "look, whatever you may think of Trump, and whether or not you're a Christian, and you know I'm not a fan of him, it's not illegal for him to have an affair with a porn star or to pay off a porn star, and don't you think that if it was illegal, he wouldn't have publicly acknowledged on social media that he paid her off? I absolutely support his right to have an affair with her or to pay her off."

It's a good night to have fun with MAGA family members/friends.

All of the Republican "leaders" are using the same word to describe this - outrage.  I mean, it's fake outrage, but they're all operating from the same 4X4 index card.

It's obviously dumb posturing, but then they'll quiet down in a few days and watch this go down like the rest of us.

I’ll bet not. NYC went overwhelmingly for Hillary in 2016 outside of Long Island. They know Trump in NYC. They’re not fooled by his bullshit.

There are a lot of people in NYC.  A very small percentage of them are cops.

How many of them know someone who was employed on a Trump project and never got paid? How many of them remember Trump boasting after the twin towers fell on 9/11 that his tower became the tallest building in lower Manhattan? Trump isn’t popular in NYC. I’m sure a percentage of every demographic supports him. I haven’t seen anything to suggest that he’s particularly popular with the NYC cops. I’d bet that by and large NYC cops are less likely to be MAGA than cops in other cities and towns.

The “dems” didn’t do shit. Trump has committed a litany of crimes before, during, and after office. The law finally holding him accountable is a good thing.

So why not charge him for "a litany of crimes" from "before, during, and after office."?

If there is nothing more serious than what's being talked about, he'll probably beat it.

Cops are a unique demographic.  I hope you’re right.

I've overwhelmingly agreed with your takes but until everything is unsealed it could be anything. We don't know what he's accused of doing and the associated penalties. Everyone thinks it's all related to the Stormy payoff. It could be just that or it could be more.

So totally different question - with DeSantis saying he won't extradite Trump is there anything the court can do to keep Trump in NYC pending trial? I'd suspect he's going to get a gag order - I see a scenario where he violates it while in Florida and Ron doesn't do anything to send him back to NYC.

Just curious from the resident legal eagles.

In my favorite things to happen in the dotard timeline, this is tied for second with him catching COVID.  Losing the election is obviously #1 so far.

If he had died from COVID that would have obviously been my favorite; but a conviction with real jail time will push this above him losing the election in my list.  Because if he goes to prison there's a real chance he dies.  And I hope he dies sooner rather than later.

Can you not give us one fucking moment before you have to shit all over everything with your facts and stuff?

If I didn't, when the facts came out, Captainant would announce that it's another example of the fascist-co-opted legal system enabling fascists.

Well, that is technically true, but assuming that it is confined to the Stormy Daniels thing, that is most likely.

I doubt that there's anything that can be done to keep him in NY, because he doesn't live there.  Gag order I think is pretty likely, but it will be hotly contested and probably a shit show.
