If Boston loses, they are probably going to think about re-tooling their roster.  I wonder if there is any way Boston would give it a go with CP3.  Even at his age, he probably gives them a better shot at winning a title than Marcus Smart.  And Smart would help Phoenix quite a bit with his perimeter defense and grit.

Huh?  I thought that was the entire point of trading into empty cap space- there doesn’t need to be any money coming back if the contract fits entirely under.  Isn’t that how OKC laundered their cap space for 2 or 3 years?

With a free agent, it's simple -- you just take them into the cap. There's little math involved. But with a trade, there absolutely has to be money coming back. There are different rules for taxpayers vs non-taxpayers with regard to how much you can send out and take back, but in general the salaries have to match. The trick about trading salary is that it only has to match for the current year. So you can trade someone on a 5 year $30 million/yr contract for someone who only has a 1 year $30 million contract. That's how OKC was able to keep getting assets for taking on cap. You can also use trade exceptions to make the numbers work.

For example, the 76ers signed Al Horford to a terrible 4 year $110 million contract and realized after 1 season it wasn't going to work out. They needed to dump him and get cap relief. so they traded him, some throw ins, plus a first round pick (which was used on Alperen Sengun fyi) to OKC for Danny Green, some throw ins and a trade exception to make the numbers work. After that, OKC turned around and traded Horford to Boston for Kemba Walker and another first round pick and a second round pick. Walker had another year left on his contract so they ended up buying him out for $20 million. So they were able to turn cap room, trade exceptions and scrubs into picks.

LMFAO what

Boston might have problems on their roster but smart ain't one of them. Top 5 defender with an adequate offensive game.  At 38 CP3 is in no way shape or form an upgrade.

maybe.  On Bill Simmons the other day he was lamenting how Smart has like 50% more attempts at game winning shots than Tatum and Brown COMBINED. And he isn't very good at them.  The problem is that he doesn't think he has an "adequate" offensive game. He thinks he is the man.

Maybe Boston will keep him, but I wouldn't put the odds higher than 50/50 if they get knocked out by the Sixers.

Nah... CP3 is worthless now

I won't be surprised if Boston moves him, but not for cp3. They might move him because he's a valuable asset that will bring back good return. I also don't think smart is out there demanding those game winning shots. That stat says more about Tatum and Brown than it does about Smart.

Wiggins wouldn't take the jab for months and said he regretted giving in and doing it after they won the championship. They say he is going to need an injection to play tonight. Maybe it was just the gene mutating nature of the jab that he didn't like? If Wiggins doesn't play seems like Bron is in a very good spot.

???

Seriously what?

Well if it was an Ali jab, nobody wants that...

Knicks with a good 1st qtr till last 3mins...

NY leads 31-24   (End of 1st)

Knicks see 14pt lead gone...  TOO EASY

Heat lead 37-36

Gotta put Brunson back in and take care of the ball better.

Brunson picks up cheap 3rd foul with 37secs left in 2nd qtr... Ref should not have called that foul.  Just Bullshit...

51-50 Heat lead at halftime

  • Brunson with 22pts
  • Adebayo with 17pts

How anyone gives NBA credibility with the obvious blatant manipulation by officials is one of the great mysteries of life. Conspiracies are for simpletons, but it's no conspiracy to say NBA refs get the result they want.

Sounds like Scott Foster is doing what he is paid to do.

Does Jalen Rose actually think he's pulling off the dyed hair plugs look? As obvious as a toupee on Mr. Clean.

Barrett is just worthless tonight...

Airball, then dumb 4th foul because he's frustrated...

Knicks offensive gameplan in 2nd half is fuckin' terrible... No movement and very little passing

WTF

This is some shit basketball in the 3rd by both teams...

Heat lead 69-67.     About 2mins left 3rd

Yeah, man, literally no one reading a basketball forum on a sports message board needs score/time updates in 2023.

Someone besides Brunson needs to score some buckets late for the Knicks...

87-81     Heat lead.   4min left

This thread as good as ESPN game cast

And you don't have to deal with the annoying ads.

Also, I knew Julius wouldn't let me down tonite. 1-7 on 3s. 3-14 overall. Such a joke.

Barrett was worse... 1-10 tonight

Ole Scott Foster special at the end to keep em within the spread.

Just glad he's not officiating his Warriors that piece of shit

Wow so at least one 8 seed in the conference finals; maybe two. Historic.

Wolves were the other 8 seed. Lakers are the 7

Warriors are just gonna hoist some shitty shots en route to a 30 point season ending loss

They'll probably lose the game, but they ain't going out like Memphis or Phoenix.

How much time in the clock? You're slipping.

GS not having Looney is the difference in this series.
