Notre Dame AD isn't entirely wrong.  The weekly rankings and the whole committee process is a very bad joke.

More hilarious that they were up to #2 in Sagarin, #5 SP+, #4 FEI and got punched in the nuts.

They've been that way since the BCS. Do you look back fondly on all the Holiday, Alamo, and Texas bowls we played in?

Fuck them,  if they think this is bad how about being 4th in a 4 team play-off and then getting dropped even though you win 52 points.

Granted, I didn't think the Frogs should have been in in 2014, but after the bait and switch fiasco it confirmed what we all know, this is nothing but reality TV put on by ESPN.

They’ve always been participation trophy events, especially if not playing for a national championship.

Declining the bowl means missing out of extra practices and getting people playing time ahead of next season.

Bowl games are rewards for players,  and student organizations such as band, cheer etc.  But what bowls really get a team is 3 weeks of extra practice which those teams who don’t go to a bowl don’t get.   Helps set up next year and gets more practice for younger players.   Even if a lot of seniors opt out, still beneficial all around….so while I get teams with vacant coaching staffs maybe opting out, doing so in general just shows poor and emotional driven decision making.

Yup.

ND are bitches.

Heck, at one time the national title was decided BEFORE the bowl games.

Imagine being a senior on the ND squad and just finding out that you played your last game for your alma mater last Saturday. Maybe they had a team meeting where they all agreed. If not, I've lost a lot of respect for Freeman as a coach for screwing those seniors over by depriving them of that last game.

the portal/unlimited transfers helped to kill the bowl games as well.  sure you'd have a couple guys sit out for the draft and they were usually key guys but now your backups are gonna be out as well.

At least FSU had the stones to show up for the Orange Bowl after getting snubbed, even if they ended up getting demolished.

This is a certified bitch move from ND

Up until 1970 or so, the AP and Coaches' Poll national champion was named after the regular season and the bowls really were exhibitions, albeit more prestigious..  We've kinda gone full circle.

That's some solid bitch made hoes. All because they didn't make the CFP and they think they're special? Maybe don't lose back-to-back to start the season, and maybe consider joining a conference, dipshits.

Also, you might want to get a real schedule instead of playing the likes of BC, Navy, Boise St, Purdue, Arkansas, NC ST, Syracuse, Pitt and Stanford. That's some shameful scheduling and that's what happens when your players are playing below their level. They get complacent, and when you lose you take your ball and go home at the end of the season. This is why you aren't better.

We should do the same

Totally get the sentiment , I get the feeling cdc is going to wait until we see pending playoff changed before making any big moves.

Declining a bowl game just needs your practices which only hurts your chances next year

Lots of missed practice time among other considerations

They play easy ass schedule. More practice won’t do anything.  Just means more prone to injuries prolly

BYU should legit opt out too

The Notre Dame special deal needs to end. They're no more important to college football than Alabama, USC, Texas, or any number of other teams who people feel are good for college football. It's not the job of college football to keep ND independent and relevant.

What leverage other than nostalgia do they have to demand their deal?

?

I think you're saying that declining a bowl game means you won't get extra practices, which would be beneficial.  Amirite?  If so, I agree.

WTF? The 2001 holiday bowl was one of the most fun games I had ever witnessed in person. 2007 was a good time as well.

Alamo bowl is ass.

I mean what the fuck even is this sport anymore?

So as long as they're ranked in the top 12 to start the year, but they lose every game, they STILL make the CFP?

Dang, that doesn't seem right.

They also make their own schedule by not being in a conference and it seems the only teams they play every year now is USC, Navy, and I guess Boston College because of the Catholic connection.

What happened to them playing Michigan? They have no incentive to play a better schedule, because it doesn't matter, just get in the top 12 no matter how you do it.

The 2012 Alamo Bowl when we came back to beat Oregon State was fun as shit.

you really think freeman made this decision?  the xtweet makes it crystal it came down from above....   "as a team"..... "thank our families"......  that's madison-avenue-crafted spin

the seniors were fired by text at 9am....  the way the rest of corporate america works now
