Inappropriate teacher interaction

First question - I told you what the law is on cartoon child porn. you disagree with it. That’s really the end of it as far as I’m concerned.

Second question - I don’t know - depends on what the police found without his cooperation, but like I said probably nothing.

you ask a lot of questions, you appear to believe that entitles you to answers. I disagree. I’m really not interested any further.

I don’t think I’m entitled. I did think it was a discussion. Apparently it was a lecture by you. Good to know.

Nope you asked a bunch of questions, I don’t want to be here all day answering your questions, some of them were pretty irritating like what if he says no to asking questions, that’s a known answer. Seemed trappy, and besides read above appears I was wrong anyway.

You spent more time saying you didn’t want to answer them than it would’ve taken to answer them. That’s fine. Applying principles consistently even when you don’t like the outcome is hard. It requires re-examining and changing your principles or accepting there will be some outcomes you don’t like all that much.

I don’t like murderers going free. Or potential child abusers skirting repercussions. Or jackasses ranting with hate speech. But I prefer them to what it would take to prevent those things from happening.

If something seems trappy, it’s probably because it’s going to be hard to reconcile one’s answers. Answering the one about drawing a man killing a baby, since no baby was actually killed, would’ve given the answer to the animated porn one, too, since no child were actually harmed. It’s borderline thought crime. And idiotic.

I didn’t want to answer your questions because this thread isn’t a hypothetical. This is about an actual groomer and what a family should do to protect their child.  The trappy question was about basic self-incrimination rights it wasn’t a legit question. Jesus Christ man. Your crap belongs on another thread.

there is ample precedent that the line for what is lawful is moved aggressively in favor of children in the child abuse and child pornography areas (i.e. even anime child porn is illegal)

You should tell yourself that, then, because you’re the one who brought the animated porn into it. But I can see why you’d want to narrow it back down, even though the discussion has included talk about the law and how this guy’s actions may or may not fit it since about page one.

I’d probably have been tempted to respond to the guy to see what he did but, even so, protecting my daughters would’ve been Job One.

Knowing what I know now about legality and the way the system is set up, I might’ve chosen this move even if it made me physically ill. Channel my inner Chris Hansen to make sure he’s really done.

Just a thought.    You may want to consider contacting and explaining the situation to your State Representative in a private, confidential setting.    Ask him to follow up and monitor with the Texas Education Agency to insure the individual will not be hired in the future in Texas and perhaps to include a national list.   State Representatives from smaller communities tend to be more reactive to these situations.

Uhh... they are looking up answers to the shit they did not read, and finding calculations for the shit they do not know.  In other words cheating like crazy, because they can and.... wait for it... "everyone does it Dad!"

I was required to have a calculator in school, too. I don't see that as an issue. I didn't like the phone bullshit, because I agree that kids would def fucking cheat (or watch porn) but it was indeed required. As it stands now, I no longer give a shit, as my kids are grown and out of school.

The bottom line is that the teacher should not be a teacher, IMHO.  Saying "you're hot" to a 12 year old is only OK if you also are about 12 years old.

As far as criminality, maybe, maybe not.  But if "you're hot" isn't criminal (which alone likely isn't) having some sort of repercussion is what I think everyone here would prefer.  Right now the school district has the greatest ability to place a true black mark on this teachers record.  That is specifically why I suggested pressing the shit out of the school. Perhaps even threatening suit to push them in the right direction.  It's a direction honestly that the district does not want to go because of expense and publicity, so you need to be the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.

Getting the police involved is a separate issue, and in a small town any presumption of anonymity after pressing the police to investigate would be foolish.  And that brings in potential negatives for 12 y.o. darling daughter according to OP's perception.  So there are both positives and negatives here.  About the most you can expect from the police is a good scare at best unless there is a lot more evidence.  But how does anyone know if there is not more evidence?  Catch 22.  And my faith in the police of solving or prosecuting anything difficult is about a 3.5 on a 10 point scale.  And that may be way too high.

I'll be interested to see if pressure on the school district can get the black mark we all want on this guys record.  Right now that's the only way I see anything close to the outcome to prevent future situations like this or worse in the future.

This is an odd comment.

Not sure I ever described her as darling, or flawless. She’s a pretty typical 12 year old girl as far as I can tell.

And if my supposed perception of her is wrong, what does that mean? Sure implies to me that her behavior maybe helped bring this situation about. Was she “asking for it”? Go fuck yourself.

Total misread.  I assume that every son or daughter is "Darling" because we all hold them so dear to us.  Not as any aspersion towards your daughter.

I also mention your "perception" as I was under the impression that you were concerned about the potential negatives that could be directed towards her to provide cover for the scumbag teacher.  Mainly I assume in assorted types of bullying, that you indicate you think could be more intense in a smaller community.  Maybe I misread your concerns here.

Don't know why you leapt to such a bizarre conclusion as "she was asking for it?"  When all I was trying to do was state that I thought the best way to prevent this guy from teaching anymore is through the school. In large part because is would protect your Darling Daughter.  Again DD meant not as a sign of perfection or flawlessness, but of her intrinsic value as a young person worthy of protection.

You’re correct. Misread on my part. Mea culpa.

This thread is very Next Door-y. Everyone attack the OP and tell them what they did wrong and why. Of course unlike Next Door, the OP seems to be handling everything pretty well on his own. Whereas the same could not be said about the lady posting that she has been seeing the same man drop his pants and poop on the school playground after hours for a year, what should I do?

I think sort of the whole point is that there is no perfect way to handle this shit.  The only certainty I think everyone has is that this scumbag should not be a teacher now or in the future.  What mullet has to do is weigh the positive that said scumbag is no longer at his daughter's school, against what sort of additional levels of effort and potential bullying for his daughter might occur if he continues to press the issue?  Or at least that's how I see it.

It's like all parenting. You do the best you can, and pray you are making the right decisions.

Pretty much this.

I think it’s clear that the guy doesn’t need to be a teacher or, for that matter, involved in anything having to do with other people’s kids.

Beyond that, there’s a pretty substantial risk that the potential upside (legal culpability seems borderline impossible absent other victims with overt actions, e.g.) is far outweighed by the potential downside for his daughter. How much grief/backlash is she expected to be subjected to without any realistic expectation that this guy’s punishment is going to be increased?

I think he handled it as well as it could be handled under the circumstances he had in front of him.

I haven't seen anyone attack the OP (for this thread). He asked for advise and people gave divergent views.

  • Conditions at a school district or charter school that present a danger to the health, safety, or welfare of the students

TEA Complaints Management Contact Info - complaintsmanagement@tea.texas.gov or (512) 463-3544

TEA Online Complaint Form <-- OP should go here if interested as a starting point

Local Grievance Process (PDF)

My wife (no pics) works at TEA, although thank god not in complaints and investigations.  I realize to some people that makes her the devil because like any government agency we all love to shit on TEA, it's a popular whipping boy and has its fair share of screwups.  OTOH there are also a lot of highly motivated, smart, and competent people there who know their shit wrt education as well.

Because of our independent school district setup in Texas, the legislature has defined some very strong boundaries for what TEA is allowed to do, and what it isn't - and that extends to investigations.  Many people think that TEA is some overlord of Texas schools, but my experience has been different: TEA sets guidance, provides training, and monitors for compliance.  It can establish escalating penalties for noncompliance in specific instances but aside from very rare cases like the takeover of HISD (which, again, had to be specifically authorized by the TX legislature), that's rare.  Our political leanings in TX favor local control so the enforcement part of TEA is relatively weak, and that's all by design.  The vast majority of issues are handled at the district level by their administration - and those districts really don't like TEA poking around in what they consider to be "their business."

And BTW if your issue is with a private school in Texas, TEA's jurisdiction is limited, contact:

Ah ok. That makes sense. She must’ve used the Snapchat account she set up a while back to sign up. Made her delete the app but I guess the account is still active. She is always mad that we don’t let her use it. Evidently kids love it.

When my daughter was in high school, she had a couple of friends with parents that didn't allow snapchat. They just delete the app and redownload it daily.
