Why did Sam Leavitt decide to leave ASU? Do you have any intel?

Did ASU decide not to compete with Auburn or whoever is vying for his services?

I do not. You could tell he had a foot out the door for a good while. I don’t blame him for taking more money elsewhere, but any school that wants to pay him should be wary of his inability to stay healthy. Best QB in the Big XII this year when he played, but his line was shoddy at best and he still needs to grow as a leader. All players at his position need to at 20 years old though. You’ve seen firsthand how this has gone for Arch at times in finding his footing and voice.

Dillingham was courteous to him and has nothing bad to say. He’ll have to find a veteran QB now in the portal or he’s going with someone that has never started at the college level next year. Either way I trust him to have a QB prepared to be successful. He gets along with his players really well and they genuinely like playing for him.

We don’t have a big money donor like Tech has, but ASU should never finish worse than 2nd or 3rd each season in this conference if our QB, whoever that is each season, stays healthy. We’re the only school in the entire conference located in an area people actually want to live in. Overall the conference is just a mess though when you have one school being bankrolled to relevance with 12 or 13 schools that will never be able to compete financially. I’m glad ASU has the best coach in the conference, by far, but he’ll still need some financial backing to make it work every season.

Everything you said after "We don’t have a big money donor like Tech has" is wrong. Others have addressed the location comment. BYU can compete financially. When we extended Kalani we gave a commitment to provide even more NIL money. I have heard there are at least a half-dozen billionaires actively supporting BYU sports, 60+ in the 500 million plus range (includes the Crumbl guy), and lots in the lower hundreds of millions and tens of millions. We will have enough to compete in the Big 12 and beyond. There's a lot of money in Phoenix. I am surprised you don't have lots of big money donors.

Best coach in the conference by far? Wut? Dillingham is a good coach and made ASU relevant which is indeed an accomplishment, but Kalani just won B12 coach of the year, Joey McGuire is a heck of a coach, Frost is going to have UCF salty soon, Whittingham is no slouch, Brennan did a nice job this year, what Campbell did at Iowa State was impressive although he's gone now, Henderson at UH has created a competitive team despite obstacles. I expect ASU to be competitive and in the upper half of the conference every year, but c'mon man have some perspective on the other talented coaches in the conference.

Dillingham appears to be totally committed to his alma mater, too, otherwise he would've bailed this cycle.

Y'all are in good position, moving forward. Just gotta stay healthy bc NIL appears to be impacting quality depth on rosters. Nobody wants to be a backup.

I'd take Dillingham...or Kalani for that matter.
Joey is swimming in talent the other guys don't have.

Yeah you got loads of talent for sure. We are catching up tho. For the 2026 recruiting class, we are right on your heels.

Amazing how that can make a coach better.

And Yormark is fining them $500,000 each, as he should.

This is bad for the conference. Reduces exposure and payouts. Plus both of these teams could benefit from playing bowls and neither had any hope of a playoff chance, so there’s no reason to not play a bowl game.

Extremely short-sighted on their part. Glad the Big12 is punishing them for it.

I hate it.

Sounds like we let the players make the decision, and this was their way to protest Campbell's OC not getting the HC job.  I guess if not having to prep for a game allows the new staff to retain a bunch of guys, I'll be cool with it next year, but it really sucks not having another game to look forward to.

Indiana says "not so fast".

Touche', but IU's done a helluva job identifying and developing their talent. Many were JMU transfers. Plus, every team in the B1G is overrated with the exception of tOSU. Great coaching job, though.

Tech's McGuire benefitted from portal talent, but he and his staff have done a great job of getting the players to buy into their roles and play well together.

I don't think near enough credit is being given to McGuire's DC hire...Shiel Wood.

As for the new OC, I still think the jury is out.  He makes me scratch my head more than I would like.  But to be fair, I don't know if it's him or if it is Behren checking into different plays.

But that's the thing a lot of people don't realize...Tech had both a new OC and DC this year.  That fact alone had caused me concern going into the season that we would not be able to maximize the talent on the roster.  But they have, for the most part (again, offense not quite so).

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed too. It makes no sense. I bet cooler heads would have prevailed if given more time.
