Talarico was supposed to make his official announcement Tuesday, but it got leaked early.  However his Talarico for Senate website has been sitting with a "coming soon" type banner on it for 2-3 weeks.  Allred's a bit more of a mystery.  Talarico had the special sessions to get past first.  Allred had no such impediments.  That's the same game he played against Gutierrez in 24.

The lack of any Christians of note coming together to fight to destroy the charlatans using their religion to grift, steal, and spread hatred had me convinced the whole thing is a scam. You'd think if even 30 percent of Christians were good people they'd band together to fight the trash.

American Christians are scumbags.

Not going to argue the point.

But a central part of the problem is injecting religion into politics for political purposes.  Although it might feel better, from a strictly policy/doctrine standpoint, you don't want the real Christians getting visibly involved in politics, even against the bad ones.

A secondary part of the problem is that Christians should not sit in judgment of others, which is also a big problem with the political ones.

Too late to edit, but the above is, I believe, why Talarico among others is not usually explicitly Christian or biblical in his criticism and attacks on the very unchristian things going on in the lege and elsewhere.

Part of the whole deal of real Christianity is the humility not to try to tell others they're doing it wrong because you have your own hands full trying not to do it wrong.  As is often said by right-thinking folks around here "I'm not a Christian, but I'm trying."

I have, however, made the same complaint about Islam in that it seems that the sane followers do nothing to restrain the insane ones.  I assume, but don't know that Islam has the same sort of teachings about personal humility and religious righteousness.

But she’s pretty and wore Mizuno shoes!

Fucking hell. The Democrat party in this state may as well adopt “JUST LOSE” as their mission statement.

My favorite Wendy Davis story is how her team was pitching a movie to some producers where the big victorious finale would be her filibustering the abortion bill until the session ran out of time, and the filmmakers were like, “uh… but didn’t they just pass that bill like 2 weeks later?”

And instead of filibustering, the lead sucks off the entire chamber, because you can’t get pregnant that way, thus negating the need for abortions. The pink tennis shoes still get worn, though.

I love the thought of Senator Jasmine Crockett.  Imagine her questioning a trump nominee for any position.  My only concern is whether she can win a statewide seat in Texas.  Redneck, racist, sexist Texas.

This would be a typical Texas Dem self-own. In a year with a lot of Republican headwinds, with no Trump on the ballot to juice R turnout. A smart, sassy black woman would do more to juice MAGA turnout than Cornyn or Paxton could ever dream of doing on their own.

She doesn’t need to run, not at all.

Yep, that's still where we are in Texas.  James Talarico is the best shot the Dems have.  White guy who talks about Jesus a lot.

Talarico is legit, but can he beat Cornyn? That's asking a lot.

No. Texas ain't flipping -- or even turning moderately purple -- anytime soon.

I don't know. We tend to get between 42% to 48% of the vote. That's at least a slightly pinkish shade of red.

Gawd dammit gawd dammit. This whole situation is so stupid. The Democratic Party of Texas FINALLY had a candidate that had a slight chance of beating the Republicans in Talarico, with Allred pulling out.  And what do they do? They fuck it up immediately.

Crockett has a 0.0% chance of winning, and now Talarico has to spend huge funds in the primary. The Democrats are the worst run organization. I look forward to having a bribed Mexican Cartel shill as our next US Senator.

Texans have become a lot dumber over the last 5 years. We are closer to being Mississippi than a purple state at this point.

Dude....if we are LUCKY we might recover enough to be as dumb/smart as Mississippi.  At this point, the only things we have in our favor are (1) diverse topography and (2) mexican food.  Otherwise, we lose across the board.

Brother, your entire post is replete of histrionics, from Talarico having a chance to the fault lying with the party.  If it’s somewhat soothing, I think Crockett’s appeal is limited in areas that polling will soon reveal AND Talarico desperately needs someone in the race that appeals to voters besides the over-educated, terminally online that populate this board.

This entire post is complete horseshit.

The TDP has no hand in who runs or who doesn't.  There are no endorsements or a slate put together before the primaries.  However the Republicans of Texas do manipulate their elections and make endorsements.  Where the Democrats intervene comes out of DC, not so much in written or spoken endorsements, but in funds provided to their accounts.  I have a hard time thinking that the staid OG DNC led by Schumer and Jeffries have tapped Crockett.  I'd more likely imagine they are withholding money in the Texas Senate Race until after the winner of the primary comes forward.

Michelle Davis of LoneStarLeft wrote a pretty good piece on several things to consider if Crockett decided to run, and the biggest takeaway is she will bring out the voters who want to vote against her.  She is basically another version of AOC and we know how the Trumpkins hate her and would show up in droves to vote against her.  Same with Crockett.

But on the other hand with Allred laying out now, the race really comes down to Talarico and Crockett.  My biggest hope is that Talarico wins a tight primary and the Trump haters decide that their vote won't be needed against Talarico, so they stay home.

I would have no problem with either of them winning, but it will come down to who is most electable.  And either way we have at least one, maybe two good leaders won't be in office when we need it most.  But change is needed, so let's ride.

Please just remember that the TDP isn't building benches or choosing candidates other than encouraging good people to run.  Unfortunately we can't discourage anyone from running either.  That is left up to PACs and other well funded donors.   TDP's job is to insure fair elections, to register voters and get them to turn out.  Sometimes that GOTV effort is a text, or a phone call, or an event, with or without candidates in attendance/participation.
