About Vin Weber...

Weber was managing partner of the Washington, D.C. branch of lobbying firm Clark & Weinstock. In 2006, home mortgage giant Freddie Mac paid Weber $360,297 to lobby on its behalf to fend off meaningful regulation in the lead-up to the subprime mortgage crisis.[6] Weber also lobbied for Gazprom, Russia's state-owned natural gas company.[7]

In 2011 Clark & Weinstock merged with Mercury,[8]and Weber became a partner in the combined firm.[9]

Weber is considered one of the most prominent strategists in the Republican Party, serving as a top advisor on Dole for President in 1996, the Bush reelection campaign in 2004, and Romney for President in 2008.[10] Weber also serves as chairman of the National Endowment for Democracy, a private, nonprofit organization designed to strengthen democratic institutions around the world through nongovernmental efforts. He is a senior fellow at the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota, where he is co-director of the Policy Forum. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Law and Politics at the University of Minnesota Law School[11] and the nonprofit America Abroad Media.[12] Weber is a board member of several private-sector and nonprofit organizations, including ITT Educational Services, Department 56, and the Aspen Institute. He also serves on the board of The Council on Foreign Relations and co-chaired the Independent Task Force on U.S. Policy toward Reform in the Arab World with former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. In addition, Weber is a member of the U.S. Secretary of Energy's Advisory Board.

Weber was against a Donald Trump presidency, telling CNBC "I can't imagine I'd remain a Republican if he becomes president."[13][14][15]

Wow, that last guy has an impressive resume. What the hell, smart dude?

Article from March.  His lobbying firm was hired through an NGO, fronting for the pro-Russian Ukrainian government.  But, at some point, it sounds like he was in enough of the details to understand the connections and the filings were deficient.  One of the charges against Gates is that he lied about a meeting with Manafort, Rohrabacher, and Weber.

Another charging document focused on Rick Gates singles him out for lying about a meeting Manafort had with an unnamed Congressman and lobbyist. The Congressman was Rohrabacher, and the lobbyist was Weber.

I think with Cohen, he kicked the case to NYSD because it was a political minefield (with the "consulting") and not directly germane to the main case.  With this, I'm guessing it's actually a lower priority and he doesn't necessarily care if Weber gets charged.

Tony’s ex-wife — John’s former sister-in-law — is Heather Miller Podesta, a lawyer and lobbyist in D.C. A 2004 Washington Post article referred to her as “the insider’s insider” and the “it girl of Washington.”

Heather doesn’t work at the Podesta Group, but owns her own firm called Invariant. She and Tony got married in 2003, but filed for divorce 10 years later. The Post reported that the two reached a divorce settlement in 2014, finalizing their separation.

There are only two questions when it comes to lobbying: Do you want to find Washington, or do you want Washington to find you? If the Senate is considering legislation that impacts your company, you don’t want to get the news watching Chris Wallace on Sunday morning.

We strongly recommend proactive engagement. And we have a great group of clients who agree. Here are some of them.

And?  John Podesta has been a political heavy hitter for a while.  There is nothing vaguely surprising about him taking a role in the Biden administration.  And hopefully he understands how to avoid spearphishing attacks now.

As a follow-up on this thread, the DOJ dropped the investigation into Tony Podesta and Vin Weber about three years ago.

“Everyone here is talking about why John Podesta refused to give the DNC server to the FBI and the CIA. Disgraceful!” Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning. He did not explain why Podesta, who did not work for the DNC, would have been responsible for its email server.

This is how Trumpkins think, by the way.  And they go back to the same well, again and again.  An well of infinite stupidity.
