Sure looked like it

of course it was.  ignored by NHL refs with 1:45 left.  this is over.  there is no way the NHL is gonna let Dallas win game 6, even if we win game 5.

It was an easy trip and would have been helpful to have the PP there. Certainly more of a trip than Draisaitl’s flop.

Seriously.  It wouldn't have mattered but what an absolute fucking joke to give Draisitl that call and nothing there.  Absurd.

2 PP goals and 2 empty netters.

yep.  but Dallas ain't getting that call.  can't take a chance on something happening. Benn's trip wasn't even that bad and he was going into the boards anyway.  this was right in the middle of the play in open ice.

we need to go down if any stick hits a skate.

it really doesn't matter though McDavid on our team we win in 4 worst case 5.  McDavid on EDM we lose in 5 or 6.  Skinner isn't doing anything special IMO.  he's playing well but we really don't tax him.  we are hoping for puck luck.

Lost 3 straight - go win 3 straight. We have home ice. Tonight was close. It's hockey.

G6 in Edmonton feels unwinnable but let's just take care of business Thursday and take it from there.

Seen too much Stars magic the past 5-6 years to call this series.

5 on 5 feels impossible.

Yep. Find a way to win Game 5 and shift the pressure back on Edmonton to close it out in Game 6. All we can do.

At some point you just recognize that the team you’re playing is better than you are. It happens in every sport. I’m getting that feeling now. We’re not dead yet.

Win the margins are this slim it just comes down to execution.  Look at both their goals last night.  Elite/skilled plays.    We were absolutely buzzing in the first period.   That felt every bit of a 3 goal period if we could just fucking execute around the net and couldn't do it.  Same in the 2nd period of game 3.  Frustrating as hell.  Those are plays we made every game we won in the Avs series where we were also matching up against 2 of the top 5 players in the league.  And nobody is making those plays for us this time.  We all said (whether in this thread or other conversations) there is zero chance Miko continues this heater and rest of our players have to step up and nobody has.   Given expectations, I think to a man our D has outperformed what I expected of them the entire playoffs?  Who has done that from our forward group.  I would say Miko, Grandlund, Hintz (i.e., top line most of the playoffs) have all had a good playoffs to date (but not much this series).   Maybe even put Seguin in there considering he was coming off a long term injury so adjusting expectations for that.  And I think our 4th line has been fine.  But Marchment/Benn/Duchene/Robo/Johnston have all had a really bad run simultaneously and it's killed us.

This is like playing the old "Mike Tyson Punchout" when you got to Tyson. It's doable, but you gotta play perfect. I think Cody Ceci (he wasn't the only one guilty) put like 3 lazy passes across his own defensive zone. EDM jumped on each one, and began a barrage on Otter. Those small hiccups just can't happen at this level.

When did Corey Perry become a serviceable hockey player?

Stupid penalties hurt us too. That Marchment penalty after we had tied it up was a killer.

He's been god awful this entire playoffs. Outside of the game 3 feed to Seguin (after we killed off his double minor), he's done damn near nothing productive and constantly hurting us with bad and horribly timed penalties.

I'm really disappointed in Wyatt Johnston's play this postseason. I was not expecting a total dud from him. Wonder if he's nursing some kind of ailment.

Also, Harley seems to have a taken a huge step back since Miro returned.

At any rate, we need to get more dynamic offensively next year. We need guys that can grind out dirty goals in the playoffs. Hell, I'd see if there's a market for Robertson.

I don't know what the NBA crossover is in here but it's very similar to what Minnesota is going through against OKC right now. Two good teams but one is just better and is amazing at punishing you whenever you make a mistake.

I wonder if Harley is just running out of gas.  Esa as well for that matter.  They both carried such a heavy load after Miro's injury.  Overall this playoffs the D group has exceeded my expectations to a man.

bummer, for them. perhaps think twice about injuring one of our players on purpose and then trying to do it again when he returns. karma be a bitch. maybe if we keep knocking players out we'll eventually win by attrition. win the next, see what happens after that. all we can do.

That is quite a paragraph.

when all you have to do is stand in front of the net unimpeded while everyone chases the fastest 4 players on the ice it is easy to be serviceable

we are at a huge athletic deficit against the best of the best.  we can't clear the zone elegantly, we fire a cross ice pass hoping to get lucky breakaway 90% of the time.  we dump and chase all the time 5v5 because we don't have the skill entering the zone. Mikko went apeshit against the Avs or we are not even here.  similar to when Garcia and Seager went apeshit 2 years ago.

It sure beats getting bounced in the first round or not even making the playoffs and they grind and are just good enough all over to tease us but the reality is they don't have that player that changes the game. when we have guys we need, disappear, mainly on O(robo, johnston, rantanen) it can get really ugly against very good comp.

I'd love to get something for robertson but the book is out on him and I am guessing the return won't be what we'd need.

It sucks but I understand it could be a whole lot worse(see Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks)

anyway, as long as there is a game to play, it ain't over. pulling for another CAR win tonight to give the Stars a little encouragement. wouldn't it be funny if in a week from now we're all talking about a CAR-DAL final?

At the end of the day, I think I can safely say Edmonton is a better team than us today. I feel reasonably comfortable saying Florida is a better team. I can’t say that about anybody else in the NHL. They might be but I’m not certain. This team is still coming. Benn’s window has about run out, if it hasn’t already. Seguin is close. Pavelski’s ended last season. Nill has built this team to be good for the foreseeable future. Will it ultimately win a Cup? I don’t know. But we’re going to be among the final four teams nearly every year moving forward. Make a few tweaks here and there and maybe you wind up with a run of Finals appearances, maybe a Cup or two.

we can see what rantanen can do with a full year.  they need more speed.  I do agree that the floor is a second round team as long as Jake can stay solid.

It just sucks that the West is so damn loaded at the exact same time.  We've had to play 2 teams with top 5 players in the NHL.  The central is the toughest division in hockey.  Healthy MN is really good and gave Vegas all they could handle (and but for being a centimeter offsides probably win that series).  Blues pulled defeat from the jaws of victory against the Jets.  It's just a really hard conference to win.  I think this team is a lot better than our WCF team from 2 years ago and I still think that team beats Vegas if we pull out either of those first 2 in Vegas.  The first we were outplayed but lost in OT.  I was at Game 2 in Vegas and we had it won until Suter fucked up to give up the tying goal with a couple of minutes left and then we lost again in OT.  Then Game 3 was the Benn debacle and we still got that series to 6.  That Vegas team won the cup and I think the Vegas team we beat in round 1 last year was better than their cup team.

I think this team (now healthy) is the best team we've had on paper during the past 3 years but we haven't made plays this round.   It's not over.  Maybe I'm being a homer but it's not going to shock me at all if this goes 7.  Just string a few plays together, get some confidence, and we could easily grab momentum back and make this a series.
