Man, you'd think at some point being the most unpopular guy in the room would wear on him. Phoenix is about to be a dumpster fire, and the fans are going to hate him and his contract for it. Why not disappear to Charlotte and go back to his calling: putting up empty calories on an Eastern conference also ran.

If I were Beal, I would tell them to buy me out, so I can go wherever I want and sign another contract. Even a minimum deal is worth it if you get to choose the city you want. He would fit right in with the Clippers organization!

i see rumors that okc is trying to trade for a top 10 pick.  i sure hope that anyone that trades with them over the next several years charges them a premium.  lord knows they have the assets to spare.

They've changed the rules on which teams buyout guys can sign with.   I dont think the Clips would be eligible.   Most playoff level teams wont be.

Quote

Teams above the first apron ($172,346,000) cannot sign players earning more than $12,405,000 after a buyout

Now I do wonder if there is a loophole if he is bought out before the new season starts and then signs with a new team in the new season.

Looks to me like New Orleans saves some money this year and Washington gets two expiring contracts.  CJ and Olynk are both expiring while Poole and Bey both have 2 years left.  Washington should have a lot of cap space next summer.  If that even means anything anymore.

The Wiz are clearing the decks most likely to take on other bad contracts and accumulate picks from teams that are at or above the apron next summer. Let's see how that works out for the Nets this summer. All those guys in the front office in Washington came from OKC, I believe. This is Sam Presti team building 101. They may be able to turn Olynyk and CJ into more picks as well at the deadline. They can both help contenders. The Wiz front office had the misfortune of starting out with Bradley Beal and his no trade contract that they turned into dogshit while Presti had Paul George that he turned into SGA and every Clippers pick possible.

Maybe KO but McCollum's contract is fucking bad. He doesn't rebound or dime or play defense and doesn't even get his points very efficiently. With the 2nd apron I can't imagine taking that $33M on if I'm serious about winning. Maybe next year when he's an expiring if you want a vet to bring off the bench and get you 12-15 ppg.

Scratch that - he is an expiring. I was looking at the years wrong. Maybe someone takes a flier on him at the deadline then. Not sure he's worth a 1st rounder though.

porzingis to atlanta.

[Charania] BREAKING: Boston, Atlanta and Brooklyn are finalizing a three-team trade that sends Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick to the Hawks, Terance Mann and Atlanta's No. 22 pick to the Nets, and Georges Niang and a second-rounder to the Celtics.

Knew that Jrue and KP would be leaving, so there's no shock, but both were such big impact guys on and off the court.  No reason for them to be there next year while we slog through the season w/ no Tatum though.

It also uses some of the Nets cap space, which was the highest in the league. Free agents are going to have a hard time finding money on new teams, gonna be a lot of sign-and-trades.

Brad Stevens just moved on from 2 aging players, saved $196M in taxes, got Anfernee Simons and 2 draft picks.  Dude is pretty fucking good at his job.

I hope he gets a nice bonus from the new ownership.

Brooklyn is like “thanks suckers!” Now they have 5 first rounders?

And they still have like $35 million in cap space. More deals to be had. More picks out there to horde.

That has to be a record for a single draft, no? I'm guessing they will use some of them wheeling and dealing tomorrow, but thats crazy.

Good deal for both sides

Yeah. More guaranteed money for Kyrie as he comes of an injury and opens up some money to play with in the short term for the Mavs

Dallas' main task over the next couple years will be to find a suitable, young running mate for Flagg.  If it's Feb 2026 and the ASB and the Mavs are something like 16-35, they should just push Kyrie's return to the start of 2026-27 season and shut down AD to get another bite at the apple in a loaded 2026 draft.  I also wonder what kind of deals they may be able to get for Kyrie and AD at the trade deadline...oh wait shit forgot about Nico.

why the hell would beal green light this?

Charlotte is probably closer to winning anything than Phoenix is.  He's from St Louis but has spent the last decade before Phoenix on the WC.  Also, maybe Charlotte is promising to not buy him out this year?

If they're that bad at 50 games it most likely means AD is hurt.  How badly he's hurt would probably dictate his value but he'd be 33 coming off injury.... again with 120m due the next 2 years.  Hard to imagine Dallas being that bad unless AD is leveraged so it's a sort of double edged sword.
