dove and quail hunted for free all my a&i years. we always found spots around the kingsville area. good fucking times, plenty of birds, cold beers, great grilled dinners and cards all night.

And sow trout just down the road.   Talk about an area God reached down and touched.

fishing was always great. we had friends of friends that had houses on baffin, private piers. access/permission was easy to get. many many fish frys.

fridays were golf day. last class was at 11. we'd go grab lunch, then go play golf until dark. then head over to the house, start the bbq and play cards until sunrise.

funny thing, if you pass all your classes, they hand you a chemical engineering degree 🤣🤣🤣

i was in no way a 'good' student but was asked to stay around to earn a phd and join the faculty. my advisor and dept head told me i had the right mentality and could relate to students. the rest was easy to figure out they said lol

Dove hunters show up with a swivel top bucket.

So I got rid of my swivel top bucket years ago and replaced it with a nice camo directors chair.  At 6'4" its much easier on my knees.  I honed my dove hunting gear such that it fits in a back pack - mojo, decoys, ammo, shell/bird bag, and other random stuff.

On Tuesday I met one of my older buddies for lunch.  He's decided that his hunting days are behind him so he had some stuff to give me - another mojo, another bag of decoys, a camo folding chair, a camo backpack, another shell/bird bag, and, you guessed it, a swivel top bucket.  I was hoping for a shotgun, but no such luck.

This weather sucks.  Nothing is coming out in the daylight and I can’t even time the pigs right.

Having the same problem so far this season. Way too warm and muggy. Even the hogs have started waiting until after dark to come feed. They used to reliably show up within 15 minutes of the feeder going off.

Hoping things finally start moving after we get a little rain this weekend and then a cooldown next week. Planning to spend the entire weekend post-Thanksgiving out at the lease. Haven't been back since Opening Day, but doesn't seem like I've missed much.

Finally getting back out to the lease tomorrow morning, but unfortunately the weather looks likely to cut the trip in half. Heavy storms forecast to roll in around lunchtime Saturday, steady through Sunday morning. Should at least be able to get in Friday pm and Saturday am hunts.

Buddy shot a solid 8 earlier this week and we're still seeing this really nice 10 show up pretty regularly on the cameras. Hopefully this is the weekend he meets his fate.

Added 15 lbs to the scale at the processor for gut removal. It was a workout getting him in the truck.

I have always used the bucket on the tractor and some rope to string my deer up for cleaning. Put it in the shop a few weeks ago and it’s gonna be there a while. So I bought this thing and it’s awesome. The swivel that allows you to use it to load your harvest is kickass. I can’t believe I waited this long to get something like this

Went out chasing birds in NWKS a couple of weeks ago and the bird numbers were the best they have been in years. Limited out on pheasants on both days, just a man and his dog...I saw a shit ton of quail out there over the summer for the first time in 6+ years but didn't see any while hunting.

I also set up 2 tactacam game cams and absolutely love getting real time updates of what animals are moving around in the Windbreaks.

I never really hunted deer but everyday around sunset this buck comes cruising around the west end of the windbreak. I could totes just roll around in cow shit and hide in that big cedar tree around 330 then blast him when he walks by around 5 right...?

Went to Montana for an upland/waterfowl hunt with a friend who lives there, while trying to help other friends that had deer tags.

It was warmer then normal and the pheasant weren't bunched up like we are accustomed to there, so I got fewer of them than I normally do. Got one grouse and a couple of Hungarian partridge.

Saw some good whitetail bucks and one big mulie with a lot of smaller mulies.

Got in one goose hunt the evening before flying back. Had to stop shooting at sunset, but the birds did not stop coming in to land. Only got Canadians, including one banded, but saw a ton (10,000+) of snows and specs about 30 miles north of where we ended up hunting. Wish I had more time.

On a side note, my dad got this on camera on a small piece of property in central Texas:
