Chance Mock was suggesting to have Arch roll out, as it takes away the thinking aspect and just allows him to play ball.

IDGAF what the answer is, anything to remove the chaos in his head.

Many of the worst throws we have seen from him were on roll outs

Clark doesn't have adequate running back vision yet.

Hell, Clark didn't need to do anything but run where the play is designed to go. No vision is necessary. He also gets tripped up and goes down too easily.

I actually suffered the yips throwing a baseball when I was playing in my 20s in men’s league ball. I couldn’t throw the ball during warm ups. I would chunk it straight into the ground. The only time I could throw normally was from the outfield when I would just uncork it. But warming up, I had to just throw against the fence. It was so weird. Lasted a couple of months and actually didn’t get better until I switched to beer league softball. It was all in my head and I couldn’t shake it until I stopped thinking.

I experienced that in high school, too. Fortunately, I was usually the DH, so throwing wasn't necessary.

Watched some film of the line again from this game. Pass pro wasn't bad overall. Have some breakdowns in the running game with some video to show exactly what's breaking down. I'll start off with some good stuff from the first drive of the game.

First snap of the game. Good ol' gap scheme GY Counter. Endries is the TE (Y) that will pull along with Stroh (G). One of the best blocked runs of the game right off the bat. Stroh pulls and stones his man, Endries pulls and does the same, and pay attention to Campbell. Gets to the 2nd level and drives the backer like he should. 8 yds for Baxter.

Next run looks like power left. Campbell pulls this time and gets one of his best blocks of the game. TE is blocking down with Goosby and they clear the hole. This failure is not on the line, it's on Clark. Play looks blocked to go B gap behind the pulling guard and inside the TE if the guard has inside leverage and the TE is blocking down, which they are. Stroh is slow to get to the 2nd level which means the backer probably gets Clark, but should be a 6 or 7 yd gain if he runs the correct gap. Inexperienced running back mistake.

Next play is similar except they motion the TE play side to lead then pull the RG Campbell to get the numbers advantage. Again, blocked well for the 3rd straight gap run to start the game. Again the failure is on Clark for not running where the play is blocked. He's supposed fo follow Campbell into the hole but for some reason cuts it A gap right into the defense. Watch the path had he run it correctly right off Campbell's hip. Big gain potential putting him 1 on 1 with a DB.

Next play. Looks like inside zone where the linemen make a zone wall across the front and the TE comes back across the formation to eliminate the weak side rusher. Again, this is blocked well and again Clark reads it wrong. The play is blocked to go up inside on the A gap and he bounces it out to the C gap. Had he followed the blocking it's likely a first down. Clark doesn't have adequate running back vision yet. I think this drive encapsulates why we saw a lot more Gibson then Simon in the 2nd half.

For shits and giggles let's look at the next play, the 4th down failure where we see the crux of Arch's problems right now. The play design is solid and a good call against coverage. Wingo at the top is the primary read who gets a good release off the line and runs the in breaking route. The TE runs the stop route in front to suck in the coverage and give Arch the winner. It's a timing route and Arch needs to read it and release the ball on Wingo's break. We see him read it but hesitate. He then steps up in the pocket and is so late the window closes and a DB gets in the lane. He tries to rush it and side arm one to Wingo and burns it in the grass. He has to get that timing back before this offense can start winning.

If Sark had stuck to this style I think they could have eventually gotten on track. The gap runs and the one inside zone were mostly well blocked. Should have been much bigger gains. Unfortunately, Sark couldn't help himself and reverted back to his binky... outside zone. I'll pull up some examples from a drive in the 3rd quarter where shit falls apart.

Appreciate the break down! I did notice on re watch today the backs do not have good vision and get exactly what the play is blocked for. Rarely more. Painfully avg position once Baxter went out.

First look here at an outside zone. The linemen are supposed to get their inside hand on the man to help slow the rusher enough to pass him to the trailing blocker. Then reach block left to wall off the front and give the back a 3 way read. The back reads inside out and looks to see if the guard first has inside leverage and there's a hole. If not, he checks the tackle then finally TE. All while looking for a cut back lane if the defense over-pursues and loses a backside gap.

First off, Campbell doesn't get a hand on anyone, and generally looks completely lost on the play. That allows Baker's rusher to easily beat him inside getting backside pressure taking away the cut back. The front side of the play isnt well blocked because Stroh's made gets across his face and the defense is able to get through to the back. The TE Shannon also gets shed and his man makes the primary tackle.

This one looks like inside zone and it gets messed up from the start. The TE coming back across formation to take out the backside rusher runs right into Baker knocking them both down. That mucks up the hole forcing Simon to bounce outside. Goosby gets his block but isnt expecting the play to run outside of him. Luckily Stroh actually drives his man back, Livingstone gets his block, and Simon makes a great play. Campbell makes a blatant block in the back he gets away with.

This one is just so fucked up I can't even describe it. 12 personnel with Washington and Winston in, and playside neither of the TEs nor the RT Baker block anyone. Just pure shit all around playside.

Here it's 12 personnel again with Washington and Endries. UTEP stunts their tackles and it eats Stroh and Hutson up. Washington looks like he's engaging the block but then turns it loose to get to the 2nd level. Endries was expecting him to maintain the block and has to scramble to recover. I'm assuming Washington fucked that up although I don't know for sure. The line had a lot of issues with tackles stunting on their zone blocks throughout the game.

Finally the play that produced the screen shot of our 3 interior linemen laying on the ground. Outside zone, they motion Livingstone out of the play to clear the DB and see they have man coverage. On the snap Goosby does his job. Stroh gets beaten so badly on his reach block he falls and takes everyone trying to get to their blocks behind him out. No play better shows that Sark needs to cut outside zone calls down to no more than 2 or 3 a game. This line just isn't built to run this shit at the guard spots. Either that or get Stroh and Campbell out and try 2 other guards.

Great stuff.  I bet Sark runs a ton of OZ against SHSU.  Coaches always love using these types games to practice stuff that they are having trouble with.

FCB injury update:

Wisner- Out

Baxter- Out

January- Out, but probably could play if it was a conference game

Moore- Been practicing, should play

Mosley- Could see some snaps Saturday

Hutson- Turf toe, wants to play but coaches may hold him out to give Robertson a look

They're going out of their way to not give Cruz snaps at Center at this point. I'd say he  must be failing in practice, not that we've ever heard anything but positive shit, but the way they've evaluating and played Stroh just makes me think they don't know what the fuck is going on and are terrified of inexperienced play and penalties. As if either of those things could be any fucking worse on the OL right now.

Clark has not displayed good vision. I would like Wingo to sit on that 4th down play when he sees Manning step up and move to his left. The throw is much easier if Wingo realizes his QB is moving up and to the left and sits, instead of continuing to run away from his QB. I know that is more of a veteran WR play, but these are the little things the offense is not doing.

These runs with Simon just make me ask why have we not seen this guy until this game. I heard this stat on Simon, he averaged 3.9 yards per carry in this game and 4.2 yards after carry. Just think about that. He is 2nd on the team in forced missed tackles with 5 on 16 carries (Arch #1, 9 on 23). He needs to be on the field more. Staff needs to get him ready.

He is a true freshman that is only playing because Wisner and Baxter are hurt. I do agree though he needs to be the primary back against Sam Houston. Clark seems to have no explosion and Gibson is untrustworthy due his fumbling.

Clark looks like he has some nice cutting ability and quickness. The issue is he cuts to nowhere. I get Simon is a true freshman, but he looked like the best runner on the team (albeit in a very small sample size). Shows good vision and I love how every run he seems to be falling forward at the end. When I say get him ready, that means drill him on pass pro. Just do not know how he was 5th on the depth chart, but perhaps it is just a small sample size.

Sark being upbeat isn't a surprise. Mack told a story about none other than Barry Switzer. Mack said that as OC for OU, his team was performing poorly against Tulsa or a similar opponent. At halftime, he lit into his offense. They ended up losing, and as he started to apologize to Switzer, Switzer told him, 'I knew we were going to lose because you convinced the offense they couldn't perform, and they were going to lose. Next time, figure out how to lift their spirits and get them to perform.

And then, Sally perfected her cookie recipe.

Also if our RB room Is healthy Simon should be clearly the number 3

Agreed about Clark, but my hope would be that vision will come with experience. He's showed good shiftiness and ability to quickly hit a hole, he just needs to consistently hit the right hole. It's disappointing to see him run right into the teeth of the defense when the OL has blocked open a good hole. @Hermanator's breakdown of the blocking above is helpful in demonstrating that it isn't just the OL that is fucking up, it's a failure of the RB room as well. Between Simon and Clark, Simon appears to be the most disciplined so maybe we feed him more. I still think Stroh needs to be gone. I can acknowledge that he may have some good plays, but he is still a net negative. Campbell and Baker need to show more consistent effort, especially when they are backside. Any time its a run to the left they both seem to take the play off.

Regarding Wingo - I don't know how he could do that without a second set of eyes in his head. It all happens pretty fast and he's not looking for Arch when he makes his cut, he's looking for the ball. There's not enough time for him to see what Arch is doing and adjust his body before the ball is thrown. Maybe if the play was designed for Wingo to sit, but it's not.

it is super slow motion, so it is easy to make judgements. This is what I am looking at

image.png.f7808eff4ba4f79899800d7fa7ac76ea.png

Arch has been flushed and moving up in the pocket. He can gear it down.

image.png.52035d02c267ef6623e6afb4de1565e9.png

second later he is not looking at Arch and just running his route appearing to be unaware that Arch is on the move

image.png.d5ce0fff09d70e68d3f936d84508e5f9.png

He ends up out here

image.png.0b587216943c3e2a2a5cebd4b7036a82.png

I am just saying I think a more polished veteran WR would recognize his QB has been flushed and would adjust his route, but maybe that is not taught, or they just do not have that type of chemistry. it is not something that is major issue, just some of the little things Texas is not doing as an offense.

It looks like to me he just needs a bit more patience to see the where the hole develops.  Wisner is really good at that aspect. Like a lot of freshman, the game seems to be moving too fast for Clark.  He should get better with experience.
