I’m not good. But I can hit the ball straight enough to make a scramble doable.

work is now making me do marketing things…. which means a lot more golfing.

I have always rented clubs for events…. But I feel like I should now buy a set.

Whats the best way to get a good set of beginner clubs? The second hand / refurbished Calloway site seems ok I guess. IDK.

Figured surly had enough gurus to lead me to the right path.

I’d just schedule a fitting at Golf Galaxy or PGA Superstore. Tell ‘em your budget and see what they can put together for you. They sell used clubs as well.

Otherwise, that Costco Calloway set ain’t bad.

Don’t buy used. Golf is meant to be played by overspending and never seeing a return on investment. Don’t break the Universe.

The main thing is, whatever set you buy, you need to constantly replace your putter and driver... Because the clubs are the problem...

While above is true like a mofo, do something fucking smart and rather than put your money in the new replacement clubs purchase golf lessons. But mainly go get properly fitted! As has been said.  If you know what a properly fitted set feel like, you will know instantly if a set "feels right."

But if you want to get better, go get lessons, and put your driver in the bag until you can hit it accurately 90% of the time.  And ask the pro giving you lessons to make you accurate from 100 yards in.  They will practically hug you, as they know that is where most of the important shots are made.  And if you can get close from 100 yards in, you give yourself a real chance to one putt a LOT more often.  That and get a 60 degree wedge and get confident in the sand.  This is what I did to take my low 90's scores to consistent low 80's in about 6 weeks.

If you are going to play, a little CORRECT practice goes a long way. Perfecting your shitty swing with a ton of practice, does not help much.  Lessons and fitted clubs my friend!
