The most money comes from playing in the playoffs man and staying relevant. We aren’t making any more money (in a real sense) hosting OSU v Oregon state. Or Michigan v Purdue. Either way the TV money has been paid and all the seats are sold. The resale and local economy will take a hit but Texas doesn’t care about that at all.

The most money comes from keeping those games and making the CFP.

That's why I think those home games will go ahead as planned.

Notre Dame TBD.

Why the fuck are two shitty G5 teams in? Neither should be there, let alone both.

Facts but blame the format and the ACC for being a disaster. Thinking back on all that ztejas SMU/ACC hype early in the season.

Expand the playoff and let G5 play their own bracket like the NIT.

1 spot for Big 12/ACC is going to be what kills the CFP. Bama will be 10 and ND will be 9. Simple as that. BIG and SEC will come to the table and say "See, that's why we want auto bids for our conferences" and then the Big 12 and ACC will sign on to whatever they want so that this situation never happens again.

Yes, we will keep Michigan (who sucks and will be breaking in a new coach when we play them in 2027) and we will keep OSU (we should be favored and we arent gonna back down from them when it's a home game and our crowd will be popping).

So you have no spot for the ACC in your scenario?

I thought the B1G wants autobids and secsecsec does not.

I'd certainly prefer autobids over the committee, which has been a downgrade from the BCS formula since year 1.

Man, fuck these conferences for getting themselves into a totally predictable situation by expanding too big and then trying to fix it by further marginalizing the half the CFP universe.

A playoff is better when it allows for a Cinderella moment. College football is more fun when the mid-majors have that shot at a magic moment.

Having auto-bids for a conference champ is the standard in all the other sports. The NIT isn’t a good analogy. The Horizon League gets a bid and it’s the power league “not as good as the top” that gets shunted off to NIT.  Thats why it’s cool.

Fuck Bama, they’ve lost to 1/6 of the CFP field and FSU. I’d rather see the G5 get their crack.

Correctly done, that should indicate more value for conference championship game not less. Both of those should have been bubble teams that needed to show more to feel confident about being in. The thing that screws it up is the committee releasing rankings before the end of the season. Not dropping them makes the conference championship games truly meaningless and pointless.

ACC and Big 12 are the new Cinderellas. G5 doesn't have the money to compete in this NFL college football

Completely agree.  5 conference winner spots for access is fine.  How many big conference also-ran charity spots do we need?  Seems like it's never enough.

There has been a big fight over the amount of autobids. ACC and BIg 12 both wanted two spots and for the BIG and SEC to only have 3 spots. BIG and SEC have been pushing hard for 4 spots each. They will get that now.

Why do people think the committee is the problem? The problem is the stupid autobids and the schedules everyone is playing. We still had two P4 leagues play just 8 conference games this season. Have every P4 play a 10 game conference slate - or have a 9 + 1 or 2 model with cross-league matchups. Ditch the CCGs. Add a couple more teams to the CFP field if you want - 14 or 16 or whatever - even 24 would be fine if you get rid of these superfluous games that barely fucking matter and are mainly causing problems.

"Well you can't just hand out the conference championship based on tiebreakers and standings" except we're already fucking doing that. It's not like Duke had to settle it on the field vs. Miami or SMU. BYU and Alabama got their asses whipped and one of them still isn't making the playoff and one of them still IS making the playoff. Ohio State and Indiana are both still going to get 1st round bye.

It isn't how teams are being ranked that's the problem - it's how this entire thing is structured. It's easier to rank 12 teams when you actually get to rank 12 instead of 10 and there are a lot more data points with the P4 teams. No matter how you rank them a bunch of people are going to bitch about it because this is college football. You can at least put in a system that removes as much guesswork and coinflipping as possible and doesn't put in a team like JMU who barely beat Wazzu at home like 3 weeks ago that's going to get fucking smoked.

Here is the irony of the CFP. The ACC being comically weak has exposed the format, but the Committee will likely put 2 teams that essentially have ACC schedules in the playoffs (ND, Miami).

Who would be that 4th BIG team? USC?

Then how does this help our stupid conference? Only CCG , and 3 others that didn't play for it? Plus us and loser of CCG?

I see the same problems fundamentally with a 16 spot playoff.

They would have play in game weekend. That would've happened this weekend. We would've played at aggy and OU wouldve played at Ole Miss. CFP Committeee would rank for any at large spots beyond that. But at least you have play in games.

There’s been a lot of thoughtful comments and reasoning I’ve read here. To be completely objective, we should get in because of the rules but, big but, it creates match ups that we already know the outcome. A G5 team, or the next best conference champ, should be allowed in. This ultimately shows how bad the rules have been designed and determined and this isn’t a way to continue forward with any OOC games. Why play if it only hurts you?

There are 2 glaring problems with the current system… opinions will never be accepted by everyone and the members of the committee are just stupid. That’s why there is no consistency year to year, yet at the same time no true accountability to the committee members.

I've said it before: Make the CFP Committee deliberations and vote PUBLIC. Follow some version of the ACC replay process where everybody is privy to the conversations between the on-field refs and the replay officials. Do that for the Committee. At the very least, make the Committee voting process public. Force the Committee members to own their votes. ('Course, you might have to put those voting against ND, Georgia, and Alabama in witness protection . . .)

Correct. This is entertainment and the committee changes every year there is no downside to this.

The g5 exclusion has antitrust lawsuit written all over it. But that is probably needed to for some of the supporters of some of the fringe P4 to force change within their conference and back legislation to find a solution, not the NCAA’s bastardized concepts.

I bitched about this when we first moved into the age of full on player movement and NIL that the changes themselves are not the issue, but the slippery slope it created, and we are well on the path to killing the golden goose for many teams.

Good lord do you literally not read anything? This is so false. Only the Big 10  wanted auto bids. The Big XII was with the SEC wanting 5+11. The ACC is a fucking disaster and just proved that 2 auto bids would be ridiculous. If you want to exclude G5 altogether make that argument but I doubt it flies. Tell the ACC to stop sucking maybe?

Right so give them less power by making the process more simple and having everyone play a better schedule. Or have computers pick the teams. Because if you did that then no one would ever complain about which teams get in!

The CFP needs to address differences in conference strength from year to year. One way to do that would be to schedule OOC games based on conference. One season, have every SEC and ACC team play two OOC against each other - one home and one away. Then rotate the next year. That would make for better games and make it easier to measure conferences against each other.

The problem with the BCS was that there was no tournament, not that it was bad at the rankings.

We will get fucked fucked ourselves because we played and lost to tOSU in Columbus FLORIDA, book it.  So much for what the committee says.

The loss to Florida is what's keeping us out of the CFP, not the loss to Ohio State.

Step 1 is properly identifying the problem/cause.  Many on this board can't seem to do that.

This situation is nobody else's fault but our own because we failed to win a game we should have won.  Continuing to rely on "help" or "luck" to succeed is a fool's errand.

Elite programs do their job and win the games they're supposed to win.  They don't step on their own dicks and then beg for mercy.

If you are still spouting this mouth breathing nonsense, you are either a stupid person (and I’m genuinely sorry if that’s the case), or a willfully ignorant person (in which case, fuck you). It’s been disproven on multiple threads in painstaking detail.

When was the last time 2 teams got their ass beat and dropped 1 spot?  That's fucking ridiculous.  It's debatable if BYU should even be ranked.
