Cruz vs Beto

As Bozo stated, there is real strategic value to Beto based on him putting Texas in play. Making conservatives spend money, people, and time on a Texas senate race only hurts republicans elsewhere. The bigger picture is that turning Texas purple means the same for presidential races. Even if Texas continues to end up in the republican column, making the Republican candidate fight it out and spend money/time here is a game changer. There are four major cities and expensive media markets to juggle. Of course, if Texas flips, there is no way to make the electoral college work other than blue.

All of that is why there is so much more at stake in this election than a senate seat. It’s not as much to see if Beto will win as it’s to see if it’s possible for Texas to be purple in the near future and start the domino effect. I’ll be bummed if Cruz wins by 1 or 2, but I will also know that we are close. Real close. The first domino will have fallen and the rest are inevitable.

I feel like Beto HAS to win for the big national money to get spent on Dem candidates in Texas in 2020.

Just watched Beto on NBC 5 this morning. How can anyone with even a slightly open mind not find this guy a refreshing and compelling change of pace?

He sounds a lot like George W when he was running for Governor.

Very positive. No negativity. Push for consensus. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of progress.

No...Cruz is a dependable conservative vote in the US Senate.
I don't always agree with Cruz...but I know the last thing DC needs is another fraudulent leftist.
To all my little leftist buddies here, like Huckleberry, who love to 'neg' my posts...please know that a single fuck is given.

Do you even know what a conservative is?

I think a lot will depend on who that dem is. If it’s another Beto type that has a real chance, I think they will jump in......assuming Beto wins or keeps it really close. If Beto loses by more than 3% or the candidate doesn’t play well here, there is no way Texas is in their sights.

Right now we have one data point, which is Texas got closer to purple in the last presidential election. This will be another data point to (hopefully) show the trend is continuing.

Gotta watch that vid just for the skateboarding and tequila comments.

I do like what little I know about Ted Cruz. Not sure how that makes one a cuck. I just find the generalized stereotype of Beto fans (what I’ve seen here at least, manlet incel looking guys with alt-country tastes and middle aged women with crushes on a good looking peer/contemporary) to be funny and I’m curious how real the wave is...and that it would be funny if he got smashed, however unlikely.

God damn you are so tough and alpha I wish I could be like you

Nailed it. I'm a right leaning guy, but I'm very impressed with Beto. "Refreshing" is a great way to characterize him, for me. Everything is so negative and partisan these days, but he is positive and talks about actually serving Texans and addressing problems, without constantly pointing fingers at the other side. I wish there were more candidates like him, R or D.

I hate how often Wendy Davis gets brought up as  some political trailblazer for him. Abortion cannot be the centerpoint of your platform in this state,  and that was literally all that she was known for. Her blowout was a foregone conclusion from jump street.  Yeah, the “changing demographics of Texas” (Catholic Latinos)  are going to be perfectly leveraged by the abortion lady.

But no one seems to be acknowledging this. She is nothing like him, and he is nothing like her.   When the national press and the big articles on him relate him and her,  it makes his campaign seem  just as doomed.

The most impressive part for me is how comfortable he looks on that skateboard in slacks and dress shoes. Ted Cruz on a skateboard would look even more awkward than John Kerry with a shotgun.

Be careful Beto - some of these neighborhoods look a little rough.

Notice the strategy here.  Grassroots outreach/mobilization coupled with intense social media coverage of grassroots outreach.

Very few manufactured political memes/ads or vilification of his opponent.  Just pictures/video of Beto with everyday people everywhere.

Fixed.  Beto's campaign has apparently decided they will not go negative on Cruz in any capacity - interesting strategy and we'll see how it plays out.  I'm not sure how I feel about it...

No, he isn’t even that. Why don’t you go look and see what percentage of votes he has missed vs Beto.

Cruz has missed over 13% of votes since 2013. The median in the senate is 1.4%.

Over that time span O’Rourke has missed 2.9%. The median in the house (which has many more votes) is 2.4%.

Don’t be a sucker. The whole presentation of Ted Cruz as some kind of reliable conservative is hogwash. He’s MIA.

Yes...from 2013.

Cruz ran for President and was the last candidate to drop out.  I don't doubt that he missed more votes than the rest who...weren't running for President.

But I'm sure you said the same about Obama?  Especially given his 'present' votes?  😂

Now you’re comparing Ted Cruz to Obama, so I know for sure I’m winning the argument, not that there was any doubt.

2013 happens to be when Ted Cruz entered the Senate as a first term senator. He hasn’t been a “reliable” anything. That was a fair knock on Obama also. Now you are accusing Ted Cruz of the same thing even while you praise his reliability. Deal with it.

That talk is easy...until you get the job or have to pay for all this bull shit.

With leftists it's never about reality.  Bernie & She Guevara are out there touting free this and free that...and to the great unwashed masses with a below 550 Beacon score it sounds great.   They're not worried bout the costs...heck they can't even have a checking account anymore!  You think they're worried about the Gov's financial situation?  They think the Gov just prints more money!  Right???

And to the white guilt leftists & college indoctrinated it's great as well.  Free shit that the 'rich' will pay for...not me.  I mean there are so many more rich people that just don't pay their fair share!  Except that you can't steal enough from even the top 20% & evil corporations to pay for all this shit.  But let's be honest...they weren't taking economics or finance classes in school.  And clearly even those classes aren't what they used to be...or should be...how else do you have an economics degree from Boston U and run as a socialist?  It's akin to a Cardiologist who practices blood letting.

The part the left doesn't get is everything you do has an impact...on spending, on investment, on how we behave.  You take away the rewards and no one wants to take the risks.  You can be mad at 'rich people' for not being willing to do it...but you won't either.  Would you pick up and move across country for a job that you don't know if it will pay well or last?  Of course not.  And they're not investing their money & time in something with huge risk and no promise of reward.

Also, human nature is deeply engrained in us...it doesn't change.  People are greedy.  Socialists are greedy.  Fuck Bernie for his constant bad mouthing of the 'rich' that mother fucker has 3 houses!  Fuck him! I've got just one house and I'm supposed to feel guilty for wanting to keep my hard earned money?  That mother fucker never had a job before age 40!  And everything he's done since has been 'public service' IE theft from tax payers.  Even sat his wife up so she could defraud us as well.

That's your hero?  That's the guy you want to lead this country?  That guy isn't worth 2 shakes of piss on his best day.

You really care about people?  Great.  Help them yourself. Help them find a job. Help them become financially responsible.  Hell, start by raising your damn kids to be responsible.

But don't pretend that the Gov is going to help them.  Because trillions of dollars later we've not fixed anything.  We've still got poors.  We've still got failing schools.  We've still got corruption and powerful corporations...and in most cases it's even worse.

Freedom is the answer.  Individual control is the answer.  Power to the people!   The individual people...not power to the Gov that supposedly is helping the people.

Fuck that...it's a trap!  Every. Single. Time.

*And yea, with personal freedom comes personal responsibility...which is a big part of the problem leftists have with it.

**And yes, with smaller Gov we're going to have to do more ourselves in the form of helping others, charity, and support.  But that is more efficient. It has only a fraction of the fraud.  And it actually works to help people...not make them dependent.

Rant over...

You're an idiot if you expect the government to come in and fix your life, or for anyone else other than you to take charge of your life the way that you should be taking charge of it.  You're also an idiot if you think that republicans are fiscal conservatives.  Also if you think that a lift yourselves up by your bootstraps model of feeling good about yourself and holding on to your disdain for poors will ever improve any complex macro problems, or that their problems don't affect you.  Also an idiot if you think that the people sucking on the teet of government assistance are leftist D's, unless you are limiting your focus to browns.

Okay, we’re all for personal responsibility and less government in our lives.

However, the game has changed over the past 40 years.  Hard work and personal responsibility doesn’t earn a living for many in America anymore.  Sure, people can survive but the economic ladder the boomers had has been pulled up, wages are stagnant, the cost of healthcare, education, housing, and general goods have skyrocketed.

The government abandoned working for the people long ago and instead now writes laws for the people exploiting the population for personal gain and power.

Most folks have no idea how the insanely wealthy really live because they never see it.  The system is rigged for them.

Too-big-to-fail exists because of them.  They live in a state of absolutism where they can get away with crashing the economy and walk away virtually consequence free only to do it again and profit from it the next time.

Until the alliance between corrupt corporations and corrupt politicians is obliterated, we will not have the economic liberty every American deserves the opportunity to participate in.

This is not a left vs right issue.

It’s a people vs power/money problem.

Quoted for truth.

We need to do away with the notion that only Republicans/conservatives understand economics. Nothing we've seen in recent history reflects that. It's just a big, dumb meme at this point.

Republicans have been the party of fiscal irresponsibility for the last 40 years. Democrats have been more fiscally responsible over that same period of time and its not even close. I really dont care if someone is a Democrat or Republican. I want their policies to be responsible. I want their policies to follow the same advice that they would give their children. I want their policies to follow the same advice that they would give to a poor person asking how to get ahead in life. I want their policies to follow the same advice that they would follow running their own business. This isnt hard. Republicans sold out our country a long time ago to large corporations and the wealthiest, and while doing so, have incited fear by relying on tired slogans invoking LBJ's ghost in the name of every Democrat. It's over. It's done. Every single time the Republicans get in control of the WH and Congress they go on a huge spending splurge while massively cutting revenue. It is fiscal insanity. It is a literal money grab every single time. They are not principled. They are not responsible. They are dangerous to our Nation. And they should be voted out until they become responsible and start following sound, reasonable economic sense.

The best part of Beto winning will be that it will make both parties pay attention to Texas. I am tired of the parties pandering to the plains states and the midwest. I would love to see California and NY become important to both parties too.

The fact that every vote for Beto will count will lead to a huge turnout. There are a lot of liberals, progressives and left-leaning moderates who do not vote because they know in national elections their vote won't matter and in local elections their vote has been gerrymandered into nothing. I think Beto will inspire every single one of those voters to vote. Beto is going to win.

Hi 7.5incher, this is such-and-such w/ Beto for Texas. You're invited to a mock Get Out the Vote operation that we're having in Austin on Thu 08/23 in preparation for Nov 6! Staff will be hosting phone banks and block walks all day.  Event details are here: https://act.betofortexas.com/event/action/12350 Can you make it?

Cannot recall a candidate, national or local/state, outside of Obama, putting this much effort into campaign.  And I volunteered in 2000 for W (we all have our youthful indiscretions).   I get sporadic stuff from other candidates (and I didn’t tell them to take me off their lists).
