I think we're focusing mostly on the teams in front of us to lose, but we haven't focused on the positive.  We have a record of 3-2 against top 10 teams, right?  And our peers don't have a winning record against top 10 teams, correct?  If the committee wants, it can say that for the teams fighting for the last spot, what is the record against top 10 teams.   If there is a bubble team with a better top 10 record than us, then fine, put them in the playoffs.  I suspect none of our peers has a winning record against top 10 teams.  Also, our current top 10 win is two scores and against the highest ranked team that has been beat.  Aggy was #3 and will probably stay in the top 4.

Has nothing to do with toughness, it’s simple. if we win the games we play we’re in. Unfortunately that didn’t happen so we left it up to chance .

2025 Texas is going to expose the fans that are too stupid or too old to think critically. This shit is not black and white no matter what the committee decides

You know I was resistant to this idea until tonight. Sark is right. If Texas schedules Purdue, no one is saying Texas shouldn't be in the playoff with a win against OU, Vandy, and aggy. We would be ranked over all but aggy. But since we lost a 3rd game, we're behind OU and Vandy for a playoff spot even though we handled both and have better wins that both. That is a flawed system and it rewards shitty OOC scheduling. I would hate for the Notre Dame series to go away but that's the first thing I'm lopping off if I'm CDC and we get left out. Notre Dame gets the benefit of losing OOC games and making the playoffs yet it penalizes us when we lose by 7 in the first game of the year to the #1 team in the nation. Total bullshit. The Florida loss is not a factor if we're a two loss team.

We need at minimum, Michigan to lose, and either OU/Bama to lose. Plus BYU can’t win the Big 12.

If those happen, we’re at least in a beauty contest with Miami, BYU, Vandy. It’s a long shot, but at least we’re in the conversation still.

All i know is some shit is about to go down over the next 2 weeks. I will feel much better if osu beats Michigan but other than that, nothing else really needs to happen for the committee to have to decide the fate of all.of college football ooc games over the next decade. Will be highly entertaining to watch. The committee can't run from this. They will have to decide what is more important. Putting a 3 loss Texas team in over teams like Miami byu utah nd Vandy ou etc or losing 100s of millions of dollars in revenue as no team in their right mind will schedule anyone but directional schools moving forward.

AS I SAID -

9-3 and let the chips fall where they fall. I’m fucking happy after the early season struggles. Beat top 10 OU and aggy. Cant take that away

Citrus Bowl probably, hit 10 wins and build on it for 2026. Or make the CFP and we get to say we made it 3 years in a row. Happy either way

I do hope Sark and the players take the "meaningless" bowl seriously, because 10 wins in a rebuilding year sounds a lot better than 9 wins. Sark doesn't have a great record in non-playoff bowl games.

Do I think UT is a Top 12 team in the country? Yes

Do I think the committee will vote 4+ SEC teams into the CFB Playoffs? No

A team like UT being left out will be used as rationale to further expand the playoffs to 16+

There are a ton of motivations here it’s going to be interesting. Leave Texas out to spur a 16 team playoff,  no way there are 6 SEC teams, as of today I think Texas is the seventh highest ranked SEC team wow, conference championship losers being left out what does that mean for those games, OCC scheduling with Texas. This year is a bit of a mess.

There will be at least 5 SEC teams. Bama, Georgia, aggy, Ole Miss, and OU. OU only is out if they lose to LSU tomorrow and if that happens, we drop into their spot.

Notre Dame got in after losing to NIU at home with their best win being Louisville last year lol. They are a joke but independent gets you the sweetest setup for playoffs.

Such bullshit that we have H2H neutral field against them and we get left out.

Yes they beat a 1 losses Bama, but we just beat undefeated aggy.

Sark is right we should schedule UTRGV, UTEP, and UTSA every year OOC.

Yeah, only bc they're Notre Dame - TVs biggest draw.

If the committee can justify getting UT in this year, they will. Money talks

Exactly.  I don't understand why some people aren't getting this.

You don't schedule Ohio State so that you don't risk blowing 1 of your 2 mulligans early.  There is no upside and significant downside risk.

Everyone will stop scheduling anyone in the top 50 in September immediately if we get left out, and rightly so.  It's bad for college football to only look at the loss column.

I’ve been saying this for weeks. They’re so stuck on Florida’s they don’t see the real issue.

Yeah Basically. Need BYU to lose the Big 12 and Michigan to lose and Bama or OU to get a 3rd loss(bama could lose in the SEC title game).

Yep. The OOC schedule and the 16 team playoff will both be pushed by Texas losing out.

Guys, we made the playoff two years ago because we scheduled Alabama. Without that game we don’t make it in. I don’t think those games should be freebies where if you win it’s a tremendous advantage and if you lose it’s just an exhibition game and the result doesn’t matter. Just playing devils advocate.

But they're not. Go look at the ratings. They are consistently behind the SEC and Big 10 games every week unless they're playing an SEC or Big 10 team.

Yes in a 4 team playoff. We needed that game and the win got us in.

we don’t need it now.  10-2 Texas is in. Even with the Florida loss. That’s the point. It doesn’t matter who we fucking play. Just wins.

I think at a minimum we should drop Notre Dame. They should not get a single SEC team on their schedule going forward. Why give a team that has no burden to be better than SEC or Big 10 teams a free entry into the playoff every year. Notre Dame gets in by losing to the two decent teams they played this year. That's total bullshit.

So rooting interest tomorrow is Ohio State to beat Michigan, Alabama to beat Auburn so that they get into the playoff, Pitt to beat Notre Dame, LSU to somehow summon up the ability to score on OU and win the game, Tennessee to beat Vandy, Arkansas to beat Mizzou.

Oregon is better than every team in the SEC in SP+ and FPI and also by the eye test. Beating Washington on the road will also level any prejudice about schedule quality between the two teams.

Most importantly, that was a really ugly loss that unfolded tonight. If you view it as a neutral, there's no way you come away thinking that they're a top 5 team. Oregon would have to have an ugly win tomorrow for A&M to stay ahead.

Posted (edited)

If Ohio State and Pitt win, I will fell pretty good. That eliminates Michigan and Miami. We will likely jump Utah and Vandy. That moves us to #12. If we get into that grouping with ND and OU, the committee can no longer justify those 10-2 teams over 9-3 Texas given the SOS over ND and the HTH over OU.

Miami is irrelevant. We will pass them. OR they will win the ACC and get the auto bid. Michigan needs to lose, I agree. We also will jump Utah. Our biggest obstacles are Vandy (likely to lose and I think we go ahead of them anyways given the head to head and SOS differences), BYU (scam team in a scam conference, we should be in front of them unless they win the Big 12 against Tech), Bama, and OU. We need OU or Bama to lose and we will be in.

It feels like there have been very few upsets this year relative to past years, certainly not a chaos weekend. I think we’re due for one tomorrow.

And the rule of “every 9 years” (1998, 2007, 2016) would back that up:

Because then it's a debate of 3 loss Bama vs 3 loss Texas and they beat the team that throttled us by 24 and we beat the team that barely beat them by 16. It's better for us that OU beat a 2 loss Bama team.

Yes but that is just based on a good win. We just beat an undefeated team very convincingly. That was #3. I think we move to 12 just based on normal movements. With the traction Sark is getting with his narrative, and before any chaos or CCG losses (BYU), I think we are at 12 or better. As it stands tonight.
