If UVA loses to Virginia Tech, could Miami make the championship game?

AI says: Miami can make the ACC Championship game if they beat Pitt and two out of the following three teams lose: Duke (to Wake Forest), SMU (to Cal), or Virginia (to Virginia Tech).

We aren't getting in over Miami boys. The door is closing.

We are. They lost to Louisville and SMU, and couldnt even win their micky mouse poverty conference. They arent going ahead of Texas. They arent even close to a big enough name to do that.

So we have to hope Miami makes the ACC title game and loses? Or if they win could the ACC be a one bid league?

I don’t think we’re getting in either, although having media members make the claim that we should be in (media who even hates Texas) wasn’t on my bingo card.

It will be interesting to see what they do with A&M. Heather D seems to project they’ll only drop 1-2 spots.

I think we have to hope that the committee realizes Texas is better than Miami even with three losses to two.

I think Aggy ends up 5 unless Tech loses to BYU and then they would finish 4.

Organizations in the business of making money will have a lot of influence on who gets in and who gets left out.

That helps us tremendously.

If Miami makes it to the championship game, I think that helps us a lot. If they win, they will be the only bid. If they lose, they will have 3 losses and be left out with the champ getting the auto bid. I think them getting in the title game is a win for us.

there were two possible paths today - total mayhem or the Replacement Theory (Great Hornsby espoused). we are likely down to just the Replacement Theory.

both required Michigan losing. check.

the first required Miami to lose among others, not happening, at least not fully (BYU, Vandy and Miami).

the second - the replacement theory - just requires one more loss - Bama or OU.

there's the hybrid - BYU loses, we already vault ahead of Utah, and Vandy loses. That puts us at 12 and then OU/Bama lose and we take their place.

hopefully we get to find out if the SEC is a 5 bid league this year, regardless.

Go Tigers, Go War Eagle....

If Miami makes it to the ACC championship game, it helps us because either they will knock out a potential second bid by beating them in the championship game or collect a 3rd loss and see themselves out of the CFP.

Aggy should be 6 minimum behind Georgia, Tech and Ole miss. It’s a coin flip if their resume is better than Oregon based on them only having 1 loss.

You don’t think the conference developments has shifted the power for the foreseeable future? Ok then. Are you a closet Miami/ACC stan or something?

all current discussions assume ACC is a one bid league. I'm not going to talk about the committee possibly looking to get 2 from the ACC (or Big 12 which has fucked up its chances) because it induces rage in some posters.

I agree, and this is my hope.  We have examples, another besides 2023 FSU is 2014 when TCU was ranked #3 in the second to last rankings, then got passed by Ohio State and Florida State after the conference championship games.

This is my hope as well. The draw of Texas ratings plus a Manning has to be hard to turn down for the networks

the argument for us is that we played 4 top 10 teams in CFP and went 2-2 and were 4-2 in top 25. half our schedule was top 25.

Miami was 1-0 in top 10 and 1-1 against top 25(assuming Pitt drops out)

We also pantsed a team that is in the playoff.

Miami is the only team that could steal the second bid for that conference imo, so I would rather have them win the ACC or lose a 3rd game.

I don't see why anyone throws dirt on Aggies accomplishments this year.  They have done an incredible job and deserve to be the highest one loss teams.

I'll hold this position until the final playoff rankings are out.

Unless Michigan stole a bid, I think the SEC gets 5 bids. Don't think it matters what happens in the big 12. That league will work itself out.

BYU beating Tech in the Big 12 CCG would be a nightmare scenario for us, no?

They're an unbeatable juggernaut. It would take an all-time great team to slay that dragon.

Nobody that matters wants a big and sec only championship. The sport would die as we know it in 5 years.

Miami fsu and Clemson historically can pull enough talent to win big. Eliminating those markets is about the dumbest thing I've seen in this thread which is saying a ton.

Miami is a huge problem, anyone thinking otherwise is simply wishcasting.

At this point, hopefully VaTech surprises Virginia. Some other shit also has to happen, but that is the key for UM to make the ACC CCG and take that conference’s auto bid.

Yep. We really needed them to lose. Them not being in the CCG is a huge benefit to ACC

I don't think so. I think we jump Utah and Big 12 gets two teams (byu and tech) in.

Yes.
I don’t usually bet on sports, but expect some yormark ordered referee fuckery. Expect byu to cover, if not outright win.

UCF is hot trash. They can scream all they want. Mannings arent letting a bunch of Utah Mormons with 2 losses to Tech go in front of Texas, the largest media market in the country. BYU will have to beat Tech to make it.

It will be totally undeserved. BYU’s best wins are Utah and Arizona. Utah’s best wins are Arizona State and Cincinnati. The same argument can be made about Notre Dame whose best wins are USC and Pitt. These are top 25 teams but not Top 12 teams.

Ah, I get it now. In that scenario, we could still get in if both OU and Bama were to lose. No?

I get wanting national and conference diversity in the playoff bids but schedule parity is a fucking joke.  It’s a major fucking problem.

none of us know what’s going to happen. So many stated values of the committee are as odds with each other in those last few slots.

They avoid rematches if they can so it would probably be the semis. A&M isn’t making the semis.

And you would think that “should” matter, but a year ago we saw the committee choose 2-loss SMU fresh off conf championship game loss over 3-loss Bama on the basis of “not punishing a team that loses a conf championship game”.  Who knows how a committee of individuals each w/ different internal biases choose to parson all of this out?

I don’t think it should happen. I also don’t think the end results will be any different for awhile.
